SMU Coach, Larry Brown is resigning as coach, he told ESPN's Andy Katz on Friday.

Asked by Katz why he is resigning, Brown did not offer details, saying he first wanted to discuss his decision with his players and their parents.

"I've got nothing else I can say right now," Brown said.

Tim Jankovich, who was hired as the coach-in-waiting under Brown in 2012, will take over as SMU coach. Jankovich has previously been the head coach at Illinois State and North Texas.

Jankovich's promotion was first reported by CBS Sports and confirmed by ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Gee, what a shocker. I am sorry but this guy is a POS. I knew he would never last and he leaves the school with NCAA sanctions. Does this sound familiar?

SMU will likely go back to being irrelevant in basketball, but it is just as likely that SMU will no longer have the reputation as being one of the dirtiest programs in the country.

Curious timing on Brown's part - did he think no one would notice that he left by making his announcement today?

I guess that means that Jon Rothstein now has to redo his preview on the AAC.

In other news, this now means that (other than Kevin Ollie) Mick Cronin is now the "Face" of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC basketball.

Yikes!!!!!!

Doubtful, remember they got the "death penalty" in football and didn't seem to learn much from it by hiring Brown.

Larry wanted 5 year extension and SMU balked At giving 75 year old vagabond coach that deal and offered 2-3 years, so he walked. He quit on his kids and a program at a terrible time of year.

Pleas retire, Larry. You may be a good coach but you are lousy as a human being.

He talked to the media before his players? Sick sick sick coach. Please go away.
