NCAA Press Release (http://i.turner.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/gametool/brackets/2016_release_mens_basketball_attendance_final1.pdf )

Xavier ranked #41 overall with an average attendance of 10,281 fans per game; I think that's also the first time that Xavier has a season average exceeding 100% of capacity by 31.

Other Big East teams:

#10 Creighton (15,941)
#21 Marquette (13,308)
#44 Providence (9,703)
#51 Georgetown (8,879)
#58 Butler (8,164)
#59 Villanova (8,119)
#67 Seton Hall (7,070)
#71 St. John's (6,944)
#95 DePaul (5,513)

New York and Chicago are the #1 and #3 metro markets in the country.
Hopefully the teams on the bottom of that list see their attendance numbers grow.

There is no way DePaul sold 5,513 tickets a game unless about 3,000 people were absent every game.

Any ideas if someone puts out attendance figures based on % capacity? I'd be interested to see how many schools were above 100% with X.

Nah, it's visiting teams' fans flooding into the arena because they know they can get good seats on the cheap lol.

I agree that % of capacity is a big deal. If we had the same attendance in an 18,000 seat arena it could feel kinda pathetic.

Exactly. I'm not questioning the loyalty of Creighton fans or anything (Cintas wouldn't be able to hold all of their season ticket holders) but the Century Link in Omaha holds 19k. That means their average attendance was 84%. That is still really good, but I don't know if it is #10 in the country good.

I went ahead and did the entire Big East myself. Now I just need someone to do it for all of Div. 1.

Xavier (100.3%)
Creighton (84.0%)
Butler (81.6%)
Providence (78.2%)
Villanova (77.1%)
Marquette (70.6%)
Seton Hall (68.3%)
St. Johns (62.0%)
Georgetown (48.6%)
DePaul (31.5%... supposedly)

Note: Nova and St. Johns played at two different arenas as "home"... this was taken into account in the calculations

If I remember correctly, Villanova's attendance against Providence was a little bit down because they had to reschedule after a blizzard in Philly.

That capacity for Seton Hall seems pretty low - did you consider that the maximum capacity for their basketball games is a little above 10,000? They don't open up the entire arena for their games.

I did not realize that, I was just using the listed capacity from Wikipedia. I can't find the attendance with that level closed off anywhere, so I'll just assume they sold out when they played Xavier while we were ranked 5th in the country (attendance for that game: 10,353)
