All,
I recently did an interview with Lionel Chalmers that I thought some would be interested in reading. You can find it here:

He clearly put a lot of thought and effort into his answers, which I really appreciated. On a side note, I would love to get the game film of XU vs Mississippi State in 04 when he scored 31. If anyone has this and has anyway of sharing it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Great interview.
That 2003 team is arguably the best X team ever. Too bad it lost to an experienced Maryland team.
The run was one of teh most excited sports memories. In Atlanta, I had never seen so many X fans walking around the city. Really cool!

I'll go with the 2004 team- second half of the season. Went to the elite 8 and lost a close game to Duke, which X arguably should have, or at least could have, won. That team could have gone all the way.
Note to Thad Matta - when your center picks up his fourth foul with 11 minutes to go in the game, get him out of the game immediately.

There are a few Xavier teams that could make the case for being the "best" team in Xavier history, but I would take the 04 team playing at their best from the conference tourney on over any other Xavier team at their best in a single game. The 04 team absolutely dominated 6 straight very good teams before barely losing to a Duke team that had 4 legitimate NBA players on it. 04 was legitimately a top 5 team in the country and couldve won it all if they got a few breaks, and the level of competition was a little better back then as well.

Never got the pleasure of watching Chalmers play, but man does he seem like an incredible guy. He definitely put thought into things, and absolutely loves Xavier and I think he's a great ambassador for X just based off his answers. He wants to get into coaching? Go ahead Mack, give him an assistant job when he's all done with his basketball career, I bet he could do some amazing things recruiting for us.

I was blown away by his willingness to put so much thought into his answers, and he came across as a genuinely great guy both in the interview and the private conversations I had with him. As for those who havent watched him or the 04 team play, the link to the Texas game is below. That team was an absolute joy to watch so I would highly recommend it if you have a couple hours to burn.

I agree. That team was really, really good at the end of the year. Besides beating Texas and then the close loss to Duke, there was the massacre of SJU and then double digit winning margins against Louisville and Miss. State in the tourney. Dominating wins against good teams.

We flooded out of the 5th floor of Kuhlman into the greenspace after that game. Within 5 minutes, people were coming out of Husman and Brockman going crazy. I'll never forget that.

Whoa, weird, we did that when Tu and company beat Notre Dame in the NCAA's, I think it was also St. Patrick's Day, and a couple guys (from our lovely soccer team) almost took down the light pole by climbing on it and shaking it down. Unbelievable memories.

I was there for that one. Was shocked that the light pole didn't come down. I think we accidentally broke some ceiling tiles in Kuhlman 5 when the entire floor flooded into the hall twice, beers in hand, a couple kids on roller blades, during the Kansas State game.

That game is legendary in my family. We sat behind the Miss State band and the Chubby Tuba Boy (as we refer to him) kept yelling out "Hey number zero! Who is you?" And other silly stuff. Chalmers was only a few feet away, but never even looked at him, resulting in louder taunts. Tuba Boy and I exchanged pleasantries throughout the game, and when it was over I snuck up behind him, got in his ear and said "He's the guy who just kicked your ass!". We all thought he was going to come after me, but he was stuck in his tuba and seemed to stumble. My kids loved it!
