Some Important Dates:

Yessssss. Been waiting years for this. Probably going to try and go to the Detroit and Toronto dates. The 4 you listed are also possibilities, but I definitely want to see this tour at least twice. Saw Axl and his misfits in 2006 and 2012 and they were two of the greatest concerts I've ever been to.

He's with GnR at Coachella. ACDC postponed the last 10 days of their tour due to brian Johnson basically being deaf. Axl is rumored to fill in for those 10 dates which I would imagine would be in the fall after the GnR tour. He's been seen at a rehearsing studio in Atlanta with ACDC the past two weeks.

Rumor is there is a surprise show in LA tonight.

Looking at possibly both Detroit (supposed to be there for a wedding June 24) and Chicago (I live here).

Yea the show tonight is a "surprise show". From what I read people lined up for tickets two days ago and they handed out 250 tickets. How amazing would that intimate show be?

Most of the main characters were back in the "private show" in LA last night in front of an intimate crowd of 250 people. How would you like to have been there????!!!!

Slash and Duff with Dizzy Reed. No Izzy Stradlin (Lafayette, Indiana native) or Steven Adler (Cleveland native) though. Adler had a bad heroin addiction, and I believe he's recovered. Izzy had a bad cocaine addiction, but recovered and just got tired of Axl's antics, but he was one of the main writers on the big G n R songs. Wish he'd reconcile.

I had tickets to GNR on the Use Your Illusion tour back in when I was in college, but Axl broke his hand and cancelled the show. I saw them on the Appetite for Destruction tour with Aerosmith, and never saw them again. Its good to hear Slash and Duff are back, I wonder how they sounded in the "surprise show". When they were at their peak, they epitomized rock and roll.

Looking forward to their Cincy show, hope to be there.

Tickets are between $45-$250 through Tickmaster. Right now you can only get them through pre-sale. Go on sale to general public 4/8.

I got two for 80 each after fees. They're upper deck and I'm sure everything will look like stick figures, but didn't feel like shelling out 350 each for a better view. I can see the screen and hear the music so I'm content.

My son's best friend in Nashville, a struggling musician, spent $1,100 (more than half his net worth) for 2 tickets in the 6th row for the Atlanta AC/DC show. When my wife found out she texted her friend (Brian Johnson's wife) who responded "need tickets? Back stage? I'll leave their names". The kid felt half bummed to have BOUGHT tickets, but half jacked to get back stage. Then the show got canned, and his depression set in. He has no interest without Brian.

I am 40, but when it comes to music I refuse to be overly nostalgic. I am not one of those guys that think rock'n'roll was perfected in 1995 or whenever I think my prime was.

Side note, the Gin Blossoms guy is from Phoenix. He plays here quite a bit. I forget which band he is rolling with now.

I LOVE G&R...love them, but I saw them when they came to Cincy (Chinese Democracy) and I thought they completely sucked ass. They came on late as hell, Axl sounded like shit and no Slash. I'm torn on whether to drop a couple C notes on the show @ PBS. I'll probably end up going but that last show left a sour taste in my mouth..

Which tour did you see them on? I saw them at US Bank in 2012 and thought it was a great show. As much as I appreciated it, I'm glad the 12 year Chinese Democracy tour is finally over. Hopefully we can maybe get a new album in the next 20 years now.

As far as I'm concerned, rock peaked in the 60's, with some notable exceptions (Bob Seger, etc.) into the '70s. Then my daughters got into the big hair bands and I was lost. The last few decades are essentially lost also, and if I can't understand the lyrics like Adele, it just is mostly noise to me. Every now and then there's a real rock song that shows up, but I don't know the artist/year or anything. Reading all this thread with the different bands makes me realize how really out of touch I am.

That said, a couple of years ago I'm with the girls and some of their kids, and I hear this song in the background. It sounds just like my favorite old stuff which is Beach Music (I suspect not many of you know what that is). Anyway, I say to them..."hey, there's a beach music song I've never heard." The guy is singing "Someday, when my life has passed me by..." I say "girls, that's good beach music." They say...Dad, you're really old...that's Sugar Ray.

Have no idea who/what/where this Sugar Ray (guy?) is, or anything else he/they sang. But he made one Beach Music song...Someday.

Wow, seriously? I guess I am just too much into music to stop listening to new stuff. To each his own I guess. I am more into seeing bands in their prime and skip the old ones that aren't. When I was at XU, I caught groups like Garbage, Save Ferris, Fugazi, Mike Watt, Foo Fighters, Jesus Lizard, Breeders, etc. With the exception of Breeders and Fugazi who still make new music, I doubt I would pay to see any of the group I saw at Bogarts back in the day.

Sugar Ray is a band whose lead singer is king of the tipped hair d-bags that used to roam the earth freely in their popped collars. His name, said leader, is Mark McGrath, and to prove his place in rock history, he took a break from all that rockin and rollin to host Extra, the tabloid TV show.

Someday is the one bearable hit they had. Fly and Every Morning, the bigger hits they had, make one want to claw one's ear drums out.

I saw the Rolling Stones in the late '70's and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. In the early "80's it was still terrific. About 10 years ago I Just might have left early but was with a group. We had all aged by decades, but I didn't feel like faking it like they were.

You can still be into new music and be excited about seeing a band from the past. GNR is one of the few bands I would want to see past their prime. There really isn't another band you can compare them to.

As a life long musician and one that used his instrument to pay for school, I vehemently disagree with that. They had their time, they were popular, you might really like them, but there are far superior bands and really acts to them. There are better both musically and some who put on better shows.

No, I most likely won't ever pay for a band's nostalgia tour. They are money grabs and often don't feature the entire group.

Yes, to each his own. I will never understand how anyone thinks their taste in music is better than someone else's. It's all subjective. What sounds good to you may sound like crap to someone else - does it really matter if someone else thinks it sounds like crap if you like it?

I read that most of us will always gravitate to the music we listened to up to about age 25 or so, because those are our formative years and the music of that time in our lives is the most relevant. Some people will think the 70's rocked, some will love the 90's, other like current stuff. Me - I'm stuck in the 80's and damn proud of it. Sure there are new artists that I like but I'd say a good 80-85% of the music in my iTunes playlist is prior to 1995.

So what if someone still likes Gin Blossoms (Congratulations I'm Sorry is a great album, by the way) or Bob Seger, and they'd still like to see them in concert. Last concert I saw was Crowded House a few years back and I absolutely loved it. And there are bands who haven't had a hit in 20 years that I'd still pay to go see. Part of it is nostalgia but a bigger part is I like the music. Music doesn't have an expiration date.

I really like the music thread we have where people post music they like. It may not be for everyone but there are bands I've found that I wouldn't have otherwise. But I certainly don't need someone telling me what I should or shouldn't be listening to.

Sorry for the rant but I just think it's silly for someone to take issue with anyone's musical taste.

Mrs. Garrett

Sometimes musicians who don't make it get jealous of the bands with success and tell you how much they suck.

On the other hand they like to tell us how we're all missing out on the shitty bands.

That would be true, if I stopped. I didn't and actually just picked up guitar a year or so ago and am going to move on to ukulele (cool to play on the beach).

Slash is an extremely gifted guitar player and the band filled in the space between hair metal and alternative (unless you prefer the Pixies and Mike Watt), beyond that I fail to see their draw.

On that, good luck and I hope they all show up for the $500 ticket or whatever the cost is. This is akin to the argument, I am a huge Detroit Tiger fan, saw them a lot as a kid when we lived there. If the Morris/Trammel/Gibson/Lemmon/etc. showed up to play one game, I would not buy a ticket. I am just not nostalgic about things.

M83 was their usual awesome self and their new synth/disco stuff was actually cool. M83 was new a couple years after I graduated and puts out both music and tracks for movies.

Saw the first night of the tour tonight. Killed it. Axl sounded great. Slash was amazing. They played about 2:40. That being said they were still amazing.
