View Full Version : Mack should have a film session
Mack should show a film to the boys of the last 8 minutes of the Nova Kansas game. Nova played like their lives depended on it. They really scratched and clawed their way to a win. Every play was contested. Nova was not going to be denied. Hope they go win a National Championship the Big East.
On a side note, it doesn't get much better than Duke, Gonzaga,Kansas and IU losing in the space of 2 days.

I hope Mack uses his film sessions for something a little more constructive and informative than "look at that hustle."

I agree. They definitely wanted it and played like it might be their last game ever.

I am really proud of the Nova guys. Remember, this is a squad that has underachieved multiple times the last few years and also was victim of a shocking 2nd round exit last year. They came to play this year and had a huge chip on their shoulder. Good for them and I am glad they cashed in this year. Hopefully X will follow suit next season.

Perhaps coach Bennet should also......
I don't understand why some people think that teams only come from behind when the other team chokes or let's up. Perhaps it's more that the come from behind team just finds a way to reach down and perform better than people thought they could. I am going to go out on a limb here say that 'Cuse, in the last 10 minutes of the game, just performed better than Virgina. It's not that Virgina stopped trying, started coasting, or played badly. They just didn't play as well as 'Cuse did, and the orange ended up winning. Would this happen every time those teams played? Would what happened to X against Wisconsin happen every time they met? Probably not in either case. But it did happen then. Guess we just have to get over it and move on....just like the Virgina players, coach's, and fans.

Nova's players always play like their lives depend on it. Jay wright said it's the same way his team practices too. It's the only way you get to last night's game and win. That and getting a little hot.
Rarely this year did the entire X team on the floor play like their lives depended in it. Oh, there may have been a few players who played that way for entire games (like Remy and Jalen in the last game) and players who played that way the entire season (Farr) and even a few games where all of the X players played that way (like the last Villanova game). But if all of the players are not prepared and ready to give their best effort when they are in the game they simply will never be able to see their teams full potential (even when you have a deep bench). That's on the coach too.
Villanova was locked down and focused every game- all season. They saw what can happen when a team gives its best effort not just every night but every play. They were rewarded for their great preparation, focus and play.
X had a very good season. Unfortunately, a truly special opportunity was squandered. I feel a little bad for the seniors. I thought they deserved at least getting to the sweet sixteen.

That and getting a little hot.
...or a LOT hot. Nova shot 67% from the field their last 2 games, 59% from the arc, and 75% from the FT line. Not many teams are able to off set that type of offense. They were an above average shooting team all season, and their few losses resulted (at least in part) because their shooting % was below standard.
Villanova was a great team this year, no doubt about it. They had it all...experience, toughness, size, speed, and the fact they shot the ball so well made them tough to beat.

Nova learned from the previous years of bowing out of the tournament early. Jay Wright's teams have had their fair share of NCAA tournament disappointments.

They shot well, but they also took good shots. Not many contested or forced shots. They worked their offense and got a bunch of back door layups and open looks. They had their fair share of good fortune but for the most part the baskets were a by-product of running an efficient offense.

Senior leadership and starters stepping up plus bench support.

It's easy to overlook how young we were last year. Our time will come.

Works for me! I just wish it would hurry up and get here. I guess everyone but Villanova had their season end in an unsatisfying way, but we had good reason to have higher expectations.
