South Carolina blew out High Point, and Valpo and Monmouth won without too much trouble this year.

I don't know if Butler's defense could stop UVA's offense, but UVA plays so slowly that they open themselves up to the perils of small-sample variance. Butler plays a little faster (about middle-of-the-road for D1), so it will be interesting to see who dictates the tempo.

Yeah, the ideal tempo is on the faster side but not so fast that you're playing out of control at times. You get more possessions in, increasing the likelihood that you win if you are the better team.

This is, of course, conditional on matchups. Xavier played a little too fast against Seton Hall, which worked in Seton Hall's favor.

Late game situations tend to involve go-to guys, and Providence usually has the two best players on the court. I agree that if they are in striking distance, they have a good chance.

Derrick Gordon did all he could to try to lead Seton Hall to victory in his last collegiate game. He was the only player in double digits, besides Whitehead, who doesn't really count, as he needed 24 shot attempts to get there.

We got two of three teams in the Big East to win today. I picked all our teams to win and I was rooting for all of them. We are 2-1. We need to make that 4-1 tomorrow, and we need to find a way for 3 of those teams to make the Sweet 16. Friars got their first tourney win since 1997. What a drought. Butler gets respect because they made back to back Final Fours. They really didn't get a bid on merit, just history.

I was counting on The Hall to be our third team and I wanted either Providence or Butler to show me a miracle. Now I just want the miracle.

Back to the Providence game, because it's better to think about. Here's a fun fact: Drew Edwards, Providence's inbounder and assist man on the game-winning basket, was not alive the last time Providence won a tournament game.

Providence is 9-2 this season in games decided by 5 points or fewer. There's always a solid bit of luck in close games, but I don't think Providence has merely been lucky. I think they have the personnel, particularly Dunn and Bentil but also Coach Cooley, to close out games better than most teams in the country.

Great, gutty win by Providence. Seton Hall was abjectly embarrassing. Maybe the altitude, maybe Gonzaga, but that was a horrendous exhibition.

Whitehead disgusted me last night. Talk about a black hole? The ball went to him and never, ever came back out. That wasn't what he did in the BE Tourney. He got Carrington, Rodriguez and Delgado all involved in NY and last night the ball was superglued to Whitehead's hands.

It almost looked to me that Whitehead just decided to make last night his personal NBA audition, rather than trying to help his team advance. One of the most selfish exhibitions I've ever seen in an NCAA tournament..and I was cheering for the Hall.
