If they can get Bolomboy in foul trouble, Weber is going to be playing extremely uphill.

Bolomboy only averages one foul every 14:21 which is really good for someone who is the focal point of their team. Hopefully playing with bigger, more imposing forwards and quicker guards will make that foul count rise.

This could also suggest that he ... plays less defense that he could ... in order to stay in the game as one of their two primary offensive options.

Andy Mac has a thorough scouting article over on Musketeer Madness. There big guy is consistent. 24 double doubles in 34 games ( 3rd nationally). My concern is the 6-2 junior SG and his impressive shooting range. He jacked up 240 3's and 44% of them went in, so I expect him to try a " Tre Campbell" to get off to a early lead.

not as difficult to guard against a guy like that when he is the only one who can truly drain 3s

Actually it looks like he is not the only deep ball threat. I dug a little deeper and they have a deep bench w/ 9 players getting significant PT. They launch about 24 3's per game as a team. Senglin is the main chucker but this Richardson guy heaves about 5 per game in 20 minutes and the others make up the other 12 or so. Don't anticipate a problem but as we all know, everyone seems to shoot the deep ball better than the numbers against us.

Is it naive of me to think our entire starting 5 is better than theirs? I don't know how competitive their conference is, but if you threw Jalen on this team, wouldn't he be athletic/skilled enough to win conference POY? I would hope we can play this team m2m and just play our game, and it should be enough for a comfortable W. Just don't want to see us come out flat.

I'm not so sure about their 3-point ability. Weber ranked 10th in turnover rate (18.7 percent), 10th in 3-point shooting (34.6 percent) and 11th in free throw shooting (66.3 percent) in their own conference. Weber State's overall schedule was 347th nationally in terms of opponents' defensive efficiency, meaning the Wildcats posted subpar numbers despite playing a slew of soft defenses.

Senglin looks better than Dunham to me. He also has the green light to shoot anything. He took a number of questionable 3's in their tourney final. But what worries me is sometimes those bad shots go in, and they're basically indefensible.

I refuse to be concerned about Weber St. Frankly, if X loses to Weber State then we really need to think about how good this team really was/is. I have no concerns. they have a couple of decent players, one who might be quite good, but X has athletes up and down the bench who would start in their league. I think we'll be okay

Xavier has never played Weber State, but came within 5 points during the NCAA tournament in 1995.
St Patrick's Day, 21 years ago this Thursday, we played an Allen Iverson led Georgetown team without 2 of our top 7 players. Skip Prosser suspended Pete Sears and DeWaun Rose for some sort of altercation that happened at a Clifton bar the weekend before. Mark Smydra was forced to guard Iverson during the end of the first half, and we still gave them a good game. Had we beaten Georgetown that day, we would have faced Weber State, with a shot to make our second sweet 16 in school history.
Obviously it never happened, but that loss stung for a long time.

This is going to be a lot harder game then most of you think I believe. Of all the 15 seeds this is not the one I wanted to play. This team has a couple of stars and anytime you have stars you always have a shot to pull an upset. Still think X wins but I think it won't be a blowout.
I am still pissed at the committee for putting both Kentucky and X in the same region and neither one is the South. I want both teams to make the final 4 damn it and there is no way to do that now. Here is hoping they both can get to the Elite 8 and let the chips fall where they may then.

We match up well with their stars. Remy can guard Senglin very well, as he's the exact kind of guy Remy has shut down on multiple occasions. Farr can go toe-to-toe on the glass with Bolomboy, as we watch a battle of two of the best rebounders in the nation. Reynolds is just a notch worse than Bolomboy/Farr on the glass (which is still really good) and overall is a very similar player.

Tomorrow night against Weber State is one where if X defends well, meaning they turn defense into points, don't turnover the ball, share it resulting in a high amount of assists/baskets made, get offensive rebounds they win going away. If you sprinkle in that 1-3-1 as a change of pace when JP enters the game, it will be a long night for Weber. The list I just offered should be a given considering the delta in talent between the two teams. If some of these things listed don't happen, or happen as well as hoped, they still win on depth and talent. One post somewhere here says that Weber State goes 9 deep. Well, X goes 9 to 10 deep and when you compare rosters, not only is X's starting five better, their players 6-10 are superiorly better than Weber. And I'll say that just based on faith alone and not checking rosters. They have no one coming off the bench rated as highly as Macura, Gates and O'Mara.

I don't know why Mack is using the 1-3-1. Our biggest advantage over Weber is size, but the zone is putting one of our bigs out of position for rebounding. Consequently, Weber State has had a number of annoying second chances. Throw in the 3s they've hit and the crap shots that fell, and you have a single digit game. So annoying.

This is a shitty performance, but all that counts in the Tournament is surviving and advancing. Hopefully we still manage to do that.

This game is far too close. I had expected them to play much more composed on offense and much tougher on defense. Keeping the faith, but sweating.

Kaiser is 3-3 tonight. Maybe he should shoot more often?

Weber missed a couple of big open ones, too. They'd been making all their open shots this half. Hopefully they're tired.

Good win tonight against a decent Weber State team. Now have a clear path to the Elite 8 just need to beat Wisky and possibly Michigan.

I had forgotten that Wisconsin was Sean Miller's last win at Xavier.
I fear Whisky scoring all of 16 points in an entire half of college basketball is a way to sand bag us. It's all part of their greater plan.

Lot of Wisky fans tonight -- will be loud on Sunday. Enjoying a victory beer at the hotel outside the Scottrade Center (which is a dump).

Thought Jalen was really solid tonight. He played good post defense and did some nice things on offense - he put that Weber St guy on a poster!!!

I gotta say I have not seen a big guy with the foot work bolomboy has in a really long time. That is a special player and I hope my pacers draft him

Just gotta post this.
Obviously Big Game James was spectacular last night, but I have to give my Game Award to Remy Abell. He was everywhere doing everything last night. Forget the fact that he scored in double figures, he did a tremendous job on guarding Sengelin..mostly Mano on Mano. To that and still score, besides providing leadership showed me tons last night. Here's hoping for another legendary Senior run for our two guys.

Gotta admit - I cringed and uttered and "oh no" at least one of his shots, but, as usual, turned out to be icing on the cake - defensive gem per usual by Remy.

I tried to post 2-3 times before the game but the mod's never approved my posts, oh well. Looks like your guys are in a nail-biter with the Badgers, (who beat the Wildcat's 81-74 back in the 2003 NCAA tournament). We're pulling for you, need a big 2nd half to put them away.

Thanks. I was impressed with Bolomboy. Dude is an absolute load!! Hope you guys make it back to the NCAA tourney next year too.
