Xavier tied for 7th as the teams opposing coaches least want to see in the tourney:
Xavier (four votes)
The Musketeers don't have a star, but Chris Mack has plenty of quality players. Trevon Bluiett is the team's top scorer, and Edmond Sumner has developed into a terrific point guard. It's power in numbers for X.
Coaches' take on Musketeers:
"Dominant inside and can shoot."
"I wouldn't want to see them because of the 1-3-1 zone."
Love the bolded part!

Love both those quotes. Good O. Good D.
The 1-3-1 has to be a PITA for teams that haven't seen it (or specifically OURS with our length) and have little or no time to prepare. I like that too!

Also, I've seen a few other teams pull out the 1-3-1, and it never looks like Xavier's. Ours puts a lot more pressure up top than most, which has to be jarring.

The "JP Factor". Our not so secret weapon!

I remember Beilein's WVU teams that ran the 1-3-1, they had good tournament success, and Elite 8 and Sweet 16, but the thing is, he didn't have the athletes Mack has at his disposal running it, or the length. Having a 6'6 point guard, JP at the top is really a game changer. The 1-3-1 was an absolute brilliant move, and for a team that hasn't seen it, the length could get overwhelming at times.
Whoever we play first, be it the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd weekend will have some time to prepare for the 1-3-1. 1st weekend shouldn't be an issue, but 2nd and hopefully 3rd weekend might.

Can't wait to get to the third weekend to find out.

This is true, but I think practicing against it is going to be very different from having it thrown at you in a game by a top 5 team. I'm expecting it to cause a lot of problems for everyone we face that hasn't seen it.

Yup. It was about midway through the conference schedule that we started to see the 1-3-1 more regularly exploited. By that time, every team had seen it this year and most players had seen it once or twice last year.
