I have always had a lot of luck with using Priceline for hotels downtown. If you pick the downtown area and 4 stars you are guaranteed to either get the Regency at the Arch or Union Station, which are both nice (I like the Regency at the Arch a lot more, but Union Station is essentially connected to the arena the games are at). I normally start at around $75 and up my bid $5 a day until it is accepted.

As of a couple days ago the Hilton at the ball park still had rooms, thats where my parents and I are staying. Also going on at this time in STL is the HUGE St. Patrick's Day celebrations! Rooms downtown are going VERY quick!! The old Sheraton I think MAY be the closest to the arena.

Hey Basket. I am new to this Board, but live in St. Louis. The old Sheraton is right next to the ScottTrade Center. But the Doubletree in Union Station is right there too. Just some info. I hope that helps.

Having lived and grown up in St. Louis...Union Station area is probably your best bet in terms of being close to the stadium. If you are only wanting to go to the games and your hotel, then it makes sense to stay down there, but there are other areas near the city that are a bit more lively and have some cool things to do. One area that is about a 5-10 minute drive would be the Central West End...hotel there that I suggest is Chase Park Plaza...it can be a bit on the pricey side but right across the street is Forest Park which houses the Zoo, History Museum, Art Museum etc. Also, there are a ton of restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. Just thought I would throw that out there.

St. Louis is basically guaranteed to be the spot for the first two games. If Xavier ends up in the West bracket, it would affect the second week.

Why would this change our first round location? As a top 4 seed shouldn't we be put in the location that is closest to our home, subject to others being higher than us in the pecking order? I think our biggest worry is IU winning the Big 10 and us flaming our early (since they would join MSU in STL if they get a higher seed than us).

Which (as others have pointed out) would make it even more of a lock that we end up in St. Louis.
We win tomorrow night and I would feel 100% confident we would be in St. Louis. Lost to Marquette or St. Johns and we leave the door open for IU to jump us.

I don't think everyone knows how the frist round sites are chosen. The first overall seed is placed at its nearest location and it goes down the list from there. Going by the AP poll(just to make it easier).
Kansas= DesMoines
Mich St= St. Louis
Villanova= Brooklyn
Virginia= Raleigh
Xavier= St. Louis
Oklahoma= OKC
N. Carolina= Raleigh
Oregon= Spokane
W. Virginia= Brooklyn
Indiana= DesMoines
Miami= Providence
Utah= Denver
Purdue= Providence
Arizona= Denver
Kentucky=OKC
Texas A&M= Spokane
So for us not to go to St. Louis, a second team would have to jump us that is closer to St. Louis.

Also unlikely given that Denver will be assigned to Utah and one of the 4 seeds.
Also woe to the unlucky 5 seed that draws Gonzaga in Spokane.

I just don't see IU beating a MSU/Maryland in the tournament to be honest, I don't know why, but I feel Yogi is going to have an off game. Let's just hope we don't have to worry about that and get a victory tomorrow, and maybe the next day, and then the next day too... that'd be nice.

St Louis is absolutely safe. Don't let the ridiculous media fool you. It's just like any other city...there are some good parts and bad parts and be smart. Don't walk by yourself, be aware of your surroundings, and dont.go to North city.

Game time on Sunday should we win on Friday?
The game times, if you look at your TV guide, are mostly in the evening, which is a bummer. There's a 12, 2:30, 5, 6, 7, 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 (all EDT, so an hour earlier in STL). I think it very unlikely that STL gets the 12/2:30 games, from both a matchup and timing perspective, that will very likely go to Brooklyn. So, a game time of 5 or 6 at the earliest is probably where we'll end up. And it could be very late if we're the second game at the site, as late as an 8:30 or 9:00 tip (again, EDT, so an hour earlier out there). Missed out on room at the Magnolia, if you folks get kicked out of the Magnolia for being too rowdy come on down to Drury Plaza at the Arch. (I'm a sucke for free breakfast)

Ticket prices seem to be dropping.
I bought 4 together, half court, upper deck, for $60 per ticket, including UPS and servicing charges. Good or bad deal?

You realize it's a football stadium so upper deck is about 1 mile from the court.

Magnolia? Sounds like a rent by the hour place, good luck.

Yeah, it's a hockey arena. Upper level seats aren't bad.

I'm looking at going -- there are lowers on StubHub for the session, but they're listed as "General Admission," is that normal? The last time I went to a regional round, I'm pretty sure there were assigned seats.

Definitely not general admission, possibly looking at the wrong event

Yeah, that's what I was looking at. There are a few sections where it only gives the row and then says "General Admission" afterwards.
Whatever. I just bought tickets that were actually listed as seats. Not going to add a potential headache to all this.

I cant remember exactly, but it has something to do with it being a tournament. People are selling their tickets in a certain section or row, but dont know the exact location yet. Something like that

been in there once. not great not bad. buying ncaa tickets is you need some luck unless you have connections or a lot of cash or both. i went with a secondary market because i wanted tickets in hand when i drive over from kansas city. i bought tickets for friday night and sunday. paid 266 for two tickets. comes out to 33 bucks per game. yes upper deck seats but friday is center court. probable could have spent more to be in lower bowl but maybe a worse view.

Sorry, I thought Scottrade was the football stadium, it has been renamed more than once.

They've gotten away from playing in domes for the regionals (early rounds and 2nd weekend rounds) in recent years.

I'm also thinking that we can move down since X is the second game.

For those going to saint louis and are looking for drinking establishments there are a few I suggest downtown. One, go to ballpark village right by Busch stadium..it is a huge indoor bar compound with gigantic tv's. Right down the street from that is wheelhouse and then one cool place if the weather is somewhat decent is 360. It is a rooftop bar at the top of the Hilton downtown and it looks down into Busch stadium. Yes all of these places are going to be a little on the pricey side as far as drinks, but you are on vacation right? So live it up, and I'll see you there!

Ball Park village isn't too bad on price.
Per X's website it looks like Maggie Obriens is the pregame spot.

There is also a place called International Tap House (iTap for short) in Soulard (just south of the main downtown area, kinda near the Budweiser brewery). They are known for having 500 different beers from around the world. Most of them are in bottles or cans, and then they have a good selection of about 20-30 beers on tap. It's been a while since I've been there, but it was always a favorite of mine. They don't serve food but there is a pizza place right next door and plenty of places nearby.

The nasty secret about the NCAA is that unless the right teams are at a venue, first round tickets are something close to impossible to sell.

Yes,
IU and UK are at DesMoines, and tickets are going for upwards of $600 a piece for tomorrow. St Louis kind of got stuck with no local favorite.

If you're planning to drive back from STL Sunday, it could be either the middle of the night or require another night there.
