Go Marquette! I'm pretty confident in beating either team, so I'd rather face the squad that's actually okay and not straight-up terrible. Also, this Xavier squad seems to really not care about the game too much when they play St. John's because of how much the opponent sucks.

looking at the scores of the previous games with Marquette, and St Johns, what's the chance the line of the game is X -8?

i'd like to beat Marquette. Ellenson and Fischer are a great 4/5 combo, but their lack of guard play and shooters really plays in to our hands.

Oh I was an early adopter of that, before it was a cool easy extension. So I think things were blocked, but I've not seen popups like this before, so I'm just throwing up caution for others. Thanks for the links.

Damn, Kaiser looks better every. single. game. Can't wait to see him next year after an off season of working on his ball handling. He could be really, really special.

Also, Ellenson is really good. He reminds me a lot of Kevin Love.

Out rebounding them, passing better, and protecting the ball. This was a great half. Only big downside are the 2 fouls on Farr and Sumner.

That was a super satisfactory victory. Xavier came out laser-focused, the start of the game could not have been any better. We avoided immediately falling in a hole as we did too often recently.

That was a clinic of passing and rebounding. X has had plenty of high scoring games, but that may have been our best offensive performance. Excellent ball movement and smart passing by everyone. Just a handful of forced shots, everyone was making the extra pass. This was a game where I wish they tracked hockey assists. I also wish JP had buried the 3 from the corner after they swung the ball around the world twice, would have been offensive play of the year.

Count me in the camp that is very happy that we have had mucho days of practice, and only one game up to last night, in the month of March. Rest, recoup, reload and last night, as Amex said, X came out Laser focused. Cleaned up defense and sharp offense. Lookin' good.

Xavier looked like a team playing for a conference championship and a #1 seed. I was worried they would roll into New York already satisfied with a likely #2 seed. My thinking was a little jaded from past Xavier teams never terribly interested in winning A-10 tourney games unless absolutely necessary. This is a different year, different team, and different attitude.

Also, Ellenson should have been ejected. Dirty tricks like that can end a guy's career. Go back to the north woods and choke on your draft pick.

I was grateful to see that they came out ready to play. I've already seen too many tournaments that the favored team comes out kinda looking lay and unfocused and many times the favored team doesn't pull away until sometime in the second half. Hopefully they come out as focused tonight.

It was Barcelona-like the way the ball was moving on some of those possessions. I also loved some of the looks Edmond was dishing early in the game -- it's utterly demoralizing for an opponent to have their defense broken down with a crisp pass or a great dish.

Plus, can't say enough about the defense; they forced tough shots all night and avoided major lapses or free points.

Let's keep it rolling tonight!

Agree that the d was much better. We handle that ball screen much better with Jalen due to his quickness. Some issues brewing in the SHU camp. Willard sat Desi Rodriguez for most of the second half due to some attitude issues (KW "his emotions were going one way. We need him to focus"). Not good "body language" while on the bench. Desi has been a killer for us this year. I'm sure he will start, but interesting to see how he performs. SHU starters have all been playing 30+ minutes down the stretch. Sanogo has been their bright spot in this run giving them great defense and rebounding. Whitehead trying to take this team on his back.

Even a 2 seed is not a gimme when you consider that Kansas, Villanova, Oklahoma, Virginia, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Miami, West Virginia, and even Indiana are still playing in their conference tournaments. Xavier needs to come out like they're playing for a 1 and not a team settling for a 2 or 3.

Another great game by the X men. Solid performances all around.

Trevon Bluiett
The Silent Assassin was at it again with 24 points. More importantly, he put two great halves together, with 12/3rb/1blk in the first half, and 12/3rb/1ast in the second. It was an efficient game too, needing only 14 shots to get those 24 points, showcasing the range, going 5/8 from deep. Who can guard that step back and quick release? As Gus Johnson would say... "Puuuure." The 3rd team All-American looked ready for March last night, and here's to many more games like that one.

J.P.M.F. Macura
As has been noted in another thread, the purveyor of the ThunderdunkTM dropped in the Soul CrusherTM three pointer to end the first half, on his way to another double-digit game off the bench. The Big East 6th Man of the Year once again showed why he was deserving of the honor with a 12/3/2 line to go along with a steal. JP is the man.

James Farr
The Senior is ready to go out on top. A nice game from the other deserving 6th man, aka the Big East 7th Man of the Year. Only played 13 minutes due to some foul trouble, but made the most of every minute with 12 points and 3 boards.

Jalen Reynolds
Another March quality game from Mr. Reynolds. A B.S. double technical added to the foul total, but Jalen got a solid 18 minutes going for 11 and 6. I'll take that game any day. Would prefer he not go for the sky-hook as often as he does, since he just has not seemed to master it, but he had a couple nice post ups last night where he used all that muscle to get the ball down low for the easy score... more of that, please.

Edmond Sumner
I keep thinking I cannot be any more impressed with Ed, and then I watch him play another game. Wow. He almost hit his head on the damn rim on that alley-oop from Myles. Rounding out our 5 double-digit scorers, Ed got 10 points and 4 boards. Most importantly as we continue on, he had 7 assists against 1 turnover! Not even the sky is the limit for this kid.

The shortest guy out there most of the time tied for the team lead in rebounds... but that's just the game Myles plays. 8 points, 6 boards, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 steal... and no turns. To top it all off, thanks to the large margin, he only had to play 28 minutes last night. It's nice to be able to get the starters some rest.

TEAM
In addition to the individual performances highlighted above, Remy, LAJr(3ast, no turns in 12 min!), Kaiser, Sean, and Makinde all took care of business as well. Another Mkinde assist on an O'Mara dunk--these guys seem to really play well together. The team just looked sharp last night--so good to see starting off post-season play. +12 rebounds, +10 points in paint, moving the ball well to the tune of 20 assists, all added up to a great game.

As a few of you have already said: this is fun. Like, really fun.

Great write up, X-Ceptional. I award you public reputation points.

That box score is one to print out and frame. Solid stat lines across the board, only Remy's shooting a little iffy.

To add onto Tre's awesome performance last night... His defense. So sick of people saying he can't defend. He went toe to toe with a 6'11 lottery pick last night and held his own and then some. Got in his head and was physical. When he's locked in on both ends, this team finds another gear.

Whether he did or not, I don't really care. Minus the fact that he is a Dukie, I really like Wojo. Hes obviously very knowledgeable about the game, is a solid coach, and he is great for the league. I hope that he stays at Marquette for a little while.

I thought it was interesting to see London playing at the top of the 1-3-1 at the end of the game last night. I know he has had a quiet Freshman year, but I really think we could see some pretty amazing things from him in the future. A Farr-esque transformation, except with a higher ceiling. If he keeps putting in the work, he could be special.

I think just about any season but this one would have led to a good freshman campaign from London. I really like his potential, and the defensive possibilities with Gates and him on the floor together are really exciting.

Eh it's his first head coaching gig, I can't really judge him yet, he has potential to be a great coach, and we'll see how it translates over the next few years

So we had a little "tiki taka" going? I'm okay with although I'm a Real fan. Hala Madrid!

The UK fans that I know, and that's practically my whole family of in-laws, the people I worked with for years, and virtually everyone of my neighbors, have all been very complimentary of Xavier for many years.

Of course that is probably because they haven't yet lost to X, or seen them as any threat. They do have a tendency to live in their own little world.

Agree, he was pretty complimentary of both Mack and the team. The reporter who asked the question (Rick Broering) is the same clown who after the loss to Nova said that was the last we would hear about X in the national conversation to reach the final four. That statement did not last the beat down of Butler 3 days later.
