I see Ellenson played and had monster game but still lost big.

Despite having trouble against St. Johns I would rather play them. It would be quite the feat for them to win 2 in a row after winning only 1 game since the start of the calendar year.

X should win at least 2 games in the BET, but man this bracket broke as poorly as possible for X. Every team that they match up really well with is on the other side, every team that matches up better against X is on their side. Good thing it doesn't matter much at all!

It also breaks for a longshot 6th bid if Creighton or Marquette can somehow pull off 3 upsets to get in the tournament.

Cannot believe how many basic layups are being missed in this St John's Marquette game.

And yet it's very high scoring and fast paced (it's OK, wear yourselves out!). Marquette had 75 points with 10:40 left to play. Keep it close enough that the starters have to stay in!

Ellenson is as big a flopper as Groselle. It's obviously worse, though, because Ellenson has talent otherwise. Why? Who encouraged that behavior in his past?

Yeah, the flopper has 27/12 right now, but it's only a 2 point game with a couple minutes to go. Didn't expect a game like this.

Wojo must have taught him that ;)

Close game, Fischer out, a lot of fouls being called, it might play into our advantage that they had a tough first round game for either team that ends up winning to be honest.

Damn good question! Didn't realize he had ZERO. I thought you got 1 or 2 just for stepping on the floor in this game. Glad we're deep, because the whistle just won't quit. Keep going, our game might be the second of the day for them if it drags out a few more minutes.

First night attendance 12,604. The New York Daily News commented in a story about the game - focused on St. John's- on that there were "many empty seats".

Well, I think 12,600 is pretty damn good considering that St. John's was abjectly horrible, DePaul brings literally no body and Georgetown was worse than mediocre this year- plus this was a preliminary night with only 4 schools playing. The AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC will probably be lucky to get half that today.

I love this league and love that this league has it's Tourney in the Mecca of Basketball.

Quite the opposite. I expected to see him go down backwards in his chair if someone turned their head quickly to look at him. You're right, he's talented, but they also gave up a basket late in the game (that could have been critical) because he flopped giving up a power play fast break. That was a fast moving game, no time to be lying around on the floor looking for the refs.

In what was a back-and-forth game, the current score of the Villanova-Georgetown game is almost entirely explained by a 14-1 Villanova run starting at around the 10-minute mark of the second half. Brutal.

Maybe Georgetown will make the NIT?

Villanova looking like the team that's flamed out early the last few years. Hope they're just getting it out of their system.

Uh, Seton Hall is for real folks....and Isaiah Whitehead is a PRO......very soon.

He's got the body, size and he's developing the smarts.

We have two BE Tournament threads going, so sorry to repeat, but SH is doing the NOVA what they did to us. They are for real. Energizer bunnies. They are on a mission. Hate to get them in the NCAA (not X but whoever they play). If you do, you better beware.

The good news, guys, is that since Xavier played them three times, they can't possibly face Seton Hall until late in the tournament!

Edit: Running into previous opponents isn't at the top of the Committee's list of priorities, but I imagine matching teams that have played each other three times would be avoided a bit more.

Let's do 1985 all over again and put three Big East teams in the Final Four.

I guess I'm in the minority on them. They don't have the depth to play high energy for 40 minutes without fouling out key guys. We'll see, im still quite skeptical. They are not mentally strong IMO. I would glad to be wrong though. The league needs to have a good showing in the dance.

SH still holding on, but the difference between last night and tonight is that Khadeen Carrington cannot hit the ocean tonight and he torched us tonight and Creighton the night before.

This is a tough situation for SH. You're down 2, with 12 seconds separating the shot clock and game clock. How do you approach that defensive possession?

I have stated next year is a serious goal. My wife travels so much my biggest concern is who will take care of the dog. If she doesn't join me, I'll just follow Snipe for my itinerary. (At a distance, for safety.)

I agree with the statement that they don't have the depth to go very far and if your behind by 10 or less with 5 min left go to the full court press and you win by 5.

X missed so many easy shots against SH and played so flat and still almost came back, if we played them with 80% of our normal intensity we beat SH any day of the week anywhere. After WH I can't think of any player on SH who I would trade our starting 7 with..top 7 players.

I think you are vastly over-emphasizing the last 3 minutes of that game. They made us their bitch. Twice in the last week. They are far more than just Isaiah Whitehead.

Yeah id argue they have the best starting 5 in the Big East. Also the depth thing is way overblown. They play 7 that is more than enough in the tourney, especially with the long timeouts.

I've been to the NCAA tournament many times but this was my first Big East tournament. Will definitely return. New York is a great host, games at the Garden are fun when your team is playing, and even when not (went to the final - that place was electric). I enjoyed the experience more than NCAA weekends.

Yes and 7 of their top 8 are freshman and sophmores. If Whitehead sticks around 1 more year, they probably will be top 10-15 preseason and big east favorites next year. They only lose Gordon and he is just ok.

I missed the SH Nova game yesterday but everything I read and all of the high lights say that they were robbed. Kind of like the Duke win over Virginia. What If Ochefu was healthy...

I would argue that if SH is so good then why aren't they ranked? Just because they beat us twice when we weren't playing well doesn't mean they are a great team. Was it their great defense that held us to 80 some points? How many lay ups did we miss? Our shot count was so high, we had so many open looks. How many rebounds did X give away with us fighting each other and tipping it to them? We played a bad bad game.

I would agree that they are a tough match up for X but it seems that any team that beats us becomes a great team for the time being then they lose and we are back to reality. I can go back to posts when GT beat us and all of the sudden GT was a great team as well for that time period.

SH has been ranked top 20 for the past 2 pre seasons only to fall after a few weeks into the season. I don't see them winning too many games without WH or Delgado.

I have been wrong before but, I see any tough defensive team beating Seton Hall. Even a bubble team like SDSU would give them fits with their defense. I also see any good shooting team beating them. Creighton played them tough, Butler owns them.

To the abover DMARTIN:

There is so much wrong with your post. SH will be ranked when the next polls come out. They weren't ranked in the Top 20 the past two preseasons.

Of course Seton Hall can be beat. Anyone can be beat, but they are playing very good basketball right now. They are big, athletic, and have playmakers.

Xavier did play horribly against Seton Hall in the BE Tourney. Myles turned it over 6 times in the first half alone.

I like Xavier's chances going into the NCAA Tournament.

Given how red-hot Seton Hall has been over the past 2 months, they definitely deserve to be a protected seed. This would also mandate that X, Villanova and Seton Hall all be placed in different regions. At worst, the earliest Xavier can play the Hall is the Elite 8 b/c of their 3-game series this year.

It may have not been pre season but for the past two years at least Seton Hall is ranked early into the Season, only to sputter and fall, much like Butler. They remind me a lot of St Johns team two years ago, where X just doesn't match up well with them, despite this loss SH being very beatable.

Yes they are playing very well that can't be disputed but I certainly don't fear them if X and SH meet again.

I get the feeling when X loses the board reflects how great the defeater is rather than how poorly X played in that particular game.

X is a solid 5th ranked team with a great RPI and record. SH is a hot young team who's playing very well but they can be beat by so many teams not in the top 20. SDSU, UC, USC, Zag.. on and on and on.

No kidding. The best example is the Georgetown game. It was one of the few games of the season that the most disappointing team in D1 played to their potential. Because of that, people couldn't see that Xavier played a decent game, just not good enough to win against that onslaught.

The Seton Hall/Villanova Big East Tournament final drew a 1.0 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, up 233% from Villanova/Xavier last year (0.3) and up 100% from Providence/Creighton in 2014 (0.5), both of which aired on FS1. Compared to the last championship of the original Big East, Louisville/Syracuse in 2013, overnights dropped 52% from a 2.1 on ESPN.

The Pirates’ upset win scored the second-highest college basketball overnight on the Fox Sports family of networks, behind only a Duke/St. John’s game in January of last year (1.5).

I guess the question would be whether Fox would have gotten higher rating with alternate programming? Probably not for the network.

Local affiliates may have been pissed because they took away their local news hour that usually pays lots of bills, but screw them, right? I actually though the start time was great. Slid it in before many of the prime time games starting and after most of the afternoon action.

Thought the tourney was tremendous this year. I think helped with a good NYC local team in the mix finally but in general, all sessions were packed. I have gone over the years several times and I do not recall a Thursday day session being as packed EVER as it was this past tourney.
