Big Game James!

I think that Big Game James is our MVP. Straight up.

He started last year, but came off the bench this year. Did he complain? Nope. Did he argue? Nope.

Many have said this already, it is not a new concept. Big Game James' one year transformation is one of the best in Xavier History.

I believe it, but I want to add a caveat. Big Game James was the 2nd leading rebounder per minute returning this year. Not on the team, but the 2nd leading rebounder per minute in the Big East Conference. Big Game James. As much as we want to say it was all this year, it really wasn't. That young man has busted his ass for you ever since he was a Freshman, and he is glad that you finally acknowledge his greatness. He did this for years. And he did this for you.

I love me some BIG GAME JAMES!

Give the man some love!

I think he is our MVP. His season has been EPIC so far, and he is going to FINSIH. After all, he is Big Game James!

Remy Abell

Remy Abell is graduating too. Think about that. He starts for us. Some times he scores in bunches with crucial buckets. Sometimes it seems like he seldom even takes a shot at the basket.

Remy Abell is our top on the ball defender.

Xavier basketball is defense first. It has been that way through Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller and now Mack. We play defense, and we get rebounds. That is what we do. If you can't play defense, you don't play.

You look at Remy's numbers, and sometimes they are non existent in scoring. He only took one shot against Villanova. He isn't complaining, nor do you see him forcing himself into the game. Most games he is content to just guard the best player that we play ala Stanley F-ing Burrell. That is what he does.

That doesn't mean he hasn't exploded for 21 against Butler, or 15 at Michigan when we really needed those points. I was at Ann Arbor, and God Bless Remy Abell! The man can score. He doesn't force the offence, he lets the game come to him. Unless of course our other avenues have suddenly run dry. Many of his biggest shots this year were "Senior" shots where he set us straight so the young guns could reset and get back to their bidding. His offence has been judicial and timely, and he knows when to step up. He defense is a hallmark of what we like to call XAVIER BASKETBALL. I freaking love that kid. He is Xavier through and through. He is one of us and I am proud to call him a Xavier Man!

I love our Seniors! These guys are exactly what Xavier Basketball and The Xavier Family is all about. We need to salute them and send them off in a big way. They are our brothers in arms.

Some say that this is the best basketball team in Xavier History. I want to believe that is true. I want to believe that every year. It might be true this year. One of the reasons that people cite is how unselfish this team is. And for that I would totally agree. This has to be one of the most unselfish Xavier teams that I have ever seen. We play 10 guys, and nobody seems to care if they get a number, they just care if we win. The extra pass on this team is legendary and almost without precedent in Xavier history. I don't recall a team that just loves giving the ball up for someone else to score. Nobody in Blue and White seems greedy, they are all in. This may be the most unselfish team that we have ever had. And if we do indeed exceed the dream and win it all, I think it will all come back to that.

And who sets that Standard? Why are our kids mature beyond their years? I would look to our Seniors, who have demonstrated that in spades. James Farr started last year and this year he is off the bench. Did he complain? No, he is our MVP. And Remy has dedicated himself to stopping the best offensive player on the other team and only shooting when Trevon can't seem to find his shot. He picks his spots wisely.

Our Seniors this year have paved the way and led this team to this greatness, and they do so in a very humble way. I am not on the team or in the locker room, but from the outside I would have to judge their leadership as an A++. They have done an incredible job to influence all the young talent that we have. That is important because someday these young men will bear the banner to lead Xavier as Seniors too.

Every year it is the same story. Boys to Men. I love this program. Last year with Stain and Dee Davis I couldn't believe it. Dee Davis never gave us anything like the last part of his Senior year. He was a warrior. Stain almost put us on his back into the Elite 8. It was sick, Arizona couldn't stop him. We were a couple of minutes from the Elite 8 and I still wish the other guys could have done more, because Stain did enough.

They took that with them through the off season and they have come back like a bat out of hell. And low and behold here we are.

I love Xavier Basketball.

Congrats and much love to Big Game James and Remy Abell. They are our kids, and now they are men. I love them and would not trade them for the world. They are our guys, and they are going to lead us to victory. God Bless Remy. God Bless Big Game James, and may God Bless the Untied States of America!!!

I love Big Game James. I love Remy Abell. They are my brothers.

We need to send them off with a bang.

Great to let them walk off Cintas with a win. Two excellent young men and fine ambassadors for Xavier University.

Remus hits the free throws that seal the deal and Big Game gathers in the last rebound of the game...appropriate, don't you think?

He needed to hit that last free throw so we could have taken him out of the game. I was glad he got that last rebound.

Both Seniors played great yesterday...I wish Jalen Reynolds brought it all the time like Jimmy the Chin does.

Funny moment yesterday at the Post Game Banquet in Cintas with Coach and all the players: when Big Game James was up there speaking, and his little blurb was great by the way, he referred to the fact that the team calls him "Face".... as in "Long Face", ala Gregory Hines. The players were all rolling. Just goes to show how much these guys like each other.

Also, CMack announced that there is a Fan Vote for all of post season awards, including The Lew Hirt Society Coaches award. Go to www.GoXavier.com/awards for info and the nominees.
