View Full Version : NCAA Tournament Tickets

Over the past few days I have begun to look into NCAA Tournament tickets. I think requests are due to the XU ticket office by 3/4 (Friday). For those who go to the tournament do you order via X or via third party? Also, I am looking to buy tickets for the Saint Louis first and second round. If X plays during the day session does X provide tickets to the night sessions as well? I feel like if I am going all the way out there I might as well go to the second session games

Can't answer the rest, but this is a no. You don't get tickets for Sunday if your team loses on Friday, either.

It used to be Xavier would have a quarter of the lower level for the session on Friday they were playing in and then you had bad seats for the other session. Then, as the above post says, you'd have nothing for Sunday if we lost. Not sure if that continues or not.
Generally, I find the Thursday/Friday tickets are easy to come by - and depending who else is there, can be downright silly in how cheap they can be had - while the weekend can get very tough.

the tickets for Thursday's games should get pretty cheap on stubhub as the day of the game gets closer. I already have tickets for thursday, but will probably go the stubhub route for Friday.

I don't know if this helps anyone but the way it's best worked for me has been to go Thu and you can normally hit up some fans if their team lost. You can get pretty good prices for Sat game. Most don't really want to hang around once their team has been eliminated. The disclaimer would be Kentucky fans as they would gobble up all the tickets. I really don't want to be sharing a site with them.

I just got the e-mail from the XU ticket office that I will not be getting tickets if Xavier plays in St. Louis (I guess I didn't have enough Musketeer Points). For those of you who already have tickets, where did you get them from and how much did you pay? Any suggestions? Please let me know!
Thanks!

Are the St. Louis games definitely Fri/Sun?
That would be great news for me as I am in Vegas Wed to Sat night and I ran the rise of maybe missing all or part of the XU game if a Saturday evening or night game.

95% lock to go to St. Louis. The only thing that might change that would be if both Michigan State and Indiana jump ahead of Xavier on the NCAA Seed List. Possible, but very unlikely. If that happens, then they likely go to Des Moines for Thu/Sat games.

For those of you that have been going to the tournament for many years now, are you of the opinion that it isn't nearly as good as it used to be?
The corporate sponsors get more and more tickets, and the schools get fewer and fewer. On top of that, they've taken the early rounds out of the domes for the most part. I get that arenas are more conducive to basketball, but at least with the domes pretty much anyone who wanted to go was able to go.
The cliché NCAA Tournament atmosphere of one side of the arena rooting for one team, and the other rooting for the other team, no longer exists at the NCAA Tournament. You have a smattering of sections rooting for each team, and then a bunch of corporate people who aren't really partial to it. Even though most games are sold out or close to it, the arenas are almost never full.
It's still great, but it's not the same. I was just wondering what some long timers of NCAA Tournaments thought. Am I right, or am I imagining things??
I mean, for me personally, it's not really worth the money anymore. I used to like to go to multiple cities. If you were really lucky, you had two sites within driving distance where one was on Thursday/Saturday, and the other was on Friday/Sunday. Now, it's like I've done it before, and I had done it at a better time, so it's just not worth doing anymore.
Unless, of course, your team is in it, and you can get tickets in your team's section. Then it's still great.

Personally, I love going to the tourney and have been going to XU tourney games for about 25 years or so- the first being 1990 win over Kansas State at Hoosier dome. I still think it's a great atmosphere and a great event. For me, it's as good now as it was then.
I also enjoy missing work and drinking beer with fellow XU fans before and after the games. Jacksonville last year was a great time, particularly me and XU 23 hanging out with 94grad and his friends.

Won't be any for sale at the arena (or at any of the ncaa tourney arenas), sadly.

Sure there will....as long as you can afford a suite.

There are always tickets for sale outside the arena. People buy tickets and then their team gets sent somewhere else, or people over buy, or just don't want to go to a particular session. At the Detroit Final Four a few years ago, there were tickets for sales at the box office, but that was very rare.

I've been to many Dance games and have used a bevy of different options - ebay, craigslist, friends who friends backed out, scalpers, XU reception before the games, you name it. Even bought a ticket in an Atlanta bar from a guy whose team just lost. As far as scalpers, the prices go down and the availability goes up the closer it gets to Sunday.
As far as liquor goes, you can easily fit a couple airline bottles on you. Beer not so much.

Smuggling flat plastic bottles of Kentucky Tavern or any other liquid of choice is quite simple. Unfortunately, it was a trait I picked up throughout the years and not acquired through Dr. Fiorelli's Business Law class. Distance wise Des Moines is 8 hours and 42 minutes from Cincinnati( 585 miles) whilst St. Louis is 5 hours and 17 from Cincinnati(350 miles).

Going back and forth from cincy to SLU over 6 years I always tried to beat my record. Best ever was 4hr 35mins. Obviously no stopping and not too many if any police. I made it in 5 pretty routinely.
Oh and Indianapolis is faster than Louisville, unless there is known construction the Indy way.

And now that Illinois is 70 all the way through, it has helped shave a few minutes off.

Careful, they pat you down on the way in. The opening rounds in 2008 in DC, we were very lucky to smuggle in a full round bottle of whisky. One by one, they gave each of us the full cavity search... maybe it was because we were a bunch of college age kids wearing cargo pants... but inexplicably let the one friend who drew the short straw through without so much as a pat down. It was the first of many successes that weekend.

I would like to go see us in the Yum Center, but I am not looking forward to it if UK is in the same bracket. I won't be able to afford those tickets.

You, sir, have a great pleasure ahead of you in NYC. I had my boys with us in Orlando when we went on the run, and it was magnificent. As cool as it was, we had been to Orlando countless times for AAU tournaments and vacations, etc. NYC will trump all of that by a billion. Enjoy and watch them soak it up. You'll savor it for many, many years.

Actually, I was there in D.C. Thu against Georgia and on Sat against Purdue. I was in my early 40's so I didn't arise suspicion that I may be packing a plastic bottle of Old Crow in my drawers. MSG security is more stringent but still no match for me. You need to be smart about how you go about your business.

So, what's the best way to score some tics for St. Louis? I know I could use stubhub or whatever, but wondering if anyone knows of any other source. Would like to hook up with some XU folks for sure.
