Every Friday night I jones for some hoops, which are on every other night but Friday.

And I thought about what a big impact a game like the Shootout would have on Friday, just from a ratings perspective. It would be the only option for hoops fans.

Since the teams don't have to travel, would it make good business sense to seize the captive market that is college hoops on a Friday night with a Friday Night Shootout?

Our game would probably be on in every sports bar in the nation.

Just a passing thought I wanted to run up the flagpole....

The A10, Horizon League, Metro Atlantic, and Ivy Leagues all play on Friday nights.

But, yes, I agree it would work great on a Friday.

You could hold the game at 3:00 AM on Wednesday. It wouldn't matter. Everyone in this city loves the game.

Ok, so some schleps already have some televised games on those days. My scoreboard scanner usually just tells me what teams are playing in the top 25, so it always comes up nil.

The Crosstown Shootout is a major game. I think it would do well on a Friday. So could a UD game if we could get them to commit to a buy game.

Does Dana's still close at 2:30am? That might be perfect!

Officially it did. But sometimes....

Officially it did. But sometimes....

Sometimes......people would buy everything in the carry out cooler.....and carry it over to our house on Cleneay. Even when I was being good I could wake up at 2:45 AM and find a hundred people downstairs! (This may explain a lot.)

My God I think one time we got a case of carryout from Danas because the stores couldn't sell it. That was some expensive beer for a college boy.

The next day I wondered what in the hell we were thinking. As many sad tales end...."It seemed like a good idea at the time!"

Every overly-ambitious guy there would get a 12 pack and head back to our place. (Girls, of course, generally knew beer was free.) We had plenty of beer left over.....for breakfast. Did I mention....I should have been XU81?

Hahahaha how times have changed, I don't ever remember buying beer from Dana's, but just making sure there was a stock at home, after getting properly sauced at Dana's, of course getting some spicy balls to try to sober up a little, we would come home and give our neighbours pure hell. Surprised they didn't move out, because we were at the end of second Hudson near Floral.

They play on Friday during conference season. Since this game is during the non conference part I think it would be interesting to try for a year or 2.

I'd think you'd want to move it into the conference season if you're going to do it. That's when it's going to have the least competition. On the other hand, I would doubt Mack wants it there.

Next year, it's mostly up to UC and the American to determine when the game is played since it will be an ESPN family telecast.

I'm VERY much against playing this game in the middle of conference play, especially now that we're in the Big East. It's a hugely intense game that feels like a conference game, and playing a game like this gives us a taste of what playing in conference feels like before we actually get started. If we move the game to later in the season, we lose that advantage.

Whenever, play it while the students are on campus.

I agree. They're on campus until mid-December.

I thought when it was @UC they like to do it mid conference play and when X has it at home we do it prior to.
