I don't have to travel for work very often but when I have to, I always make sure to wear plenty of XU gear on the plane, in the hotel and if I can swing it, in the office I am visiting.

I am in Dallas this week and left Monday. Ken Broo happened to be sitting in front of me on the plane. I was wearing an XU jacket and an XU shirt under the jacket. At about mid way through the flight I took off my jacket. As we were getting ready to land, the girl sitting next to me googles "Xavier basketball coach". I don't know if she thought I was Chris Mack or if she thought Ken Broo was but it was pretty funny since I look nothing like Mack and neither does Ken Broo.

Later in the week, I was riding down an elevator at the end of the day a really tall guy comments on my XU jacket. I come to find out he played professionally with Walt McBride in Germany back in the day.

After the big win last night, I go to the hotel sports bar to celebrate and two people referred to Xavier as EXavier to which I corrected them immediately.

In just a short week, I have had some strange encounters and comments just by wearing some Xavier gear. I was curious if there were other stories like that from people who travel often. I have been wearing XU gear to out of town vacations for years and this trip is the first time I have ever had anyone comment to me about it in any way.

Here in Richmond, my Xavier scarf has twice been mistaken for a Dallas Cowboys scarf before they got a better look. Other than that, I sometimes get comments, particularly from VCU students, as they are avid basketball fans.

I was driving home from X either my junior or senior year (somewhere in western PA) and i heard this car beeping next to me and the guy was throwing up the X while driving.

Every once in a while around here I'll be wearing soemhting X-related and someone will stop me and ask what year I graduated. Always love to see fellow Musketeers, especially in Baltimore where it's not as common as say, Cleveland or one of the Midwest cities.

I've had some comments about town, most recently last weekend. It seems I'm always in a hurry as I rarely get to stop an talk, but it's nice when it gets noticed.....and they don't say Eggzavior.

Doesn't happen often, but there have been times people have commented to me, or I have commented to others.....usually just s GO Muskies! in passing.

However, in 2004 my wife and I were on an anniversary trip to San Antonio during the first weekend of the tourney. Xavier beat Louisville (sucks) in the first round, then came back in the 2nd round to defeat Miss. St. We were walking around the Riverwalk, and I wearing a Xavier sweatshirt, I got several "good game X" comments shouted at me. We then went into one of the bars to get a few beers and watch some more games. This bar was FILLED with Texas fans....Xavier's NEXT opponent (provided the Longhorns won their game). Had a good time with the Texas fans there as we bantered back and forth. Of course, none of them gave X a chance, but it was them that were crying after the X-Texas game!

I try not to wear a lot of X/Reds/Bengals gear while traveling outside the area. It's not that I am ashamed or afraid, but I know how much it annoys me to see Steelers fans wearing their s**t around here, and I imagine others might feel the same way about me wearing my gear in "their" territory. I'll guarantee you one thing though.....if I have a reason to travel to Houston in about 6 weeks, I'll be wearing my X gear loud and proud!

Two nights ago I was sitting in my car in a parking lot, waiting for my wife to come out of a store. This was in Jacksonville, FL.

My door is open for some fresh air. I hear a woman say, "Excuse me." I look around and there stands a polished 30'ish something young woman with her young daughter and she proceeds to tell me that she noticed my Xavier license plate frame (and I have a Xavier Center For Innovation sticker on my license plate) and that she just wanted to let me know that she was involved with the NCAA Tournament in Jacksonville last year.

She said that she just wanted to point out how wonderful our students were that she had met. This young lady went to Emory (Atlanta) - - a fine school, and otherwise has her children enrolled at The Bolles School here. She went on about how our students left a great impression on her. She didn't have to say a word, but went a little out of her way just as a result of seeing a Xavier license plate frame.

You can imagine what my avatar causes in SC.

I've got a lot of Spartanburg/Kiawah educated though.

I usually have on my X jacket when I fly or a WVU shirt, I've gotten a few comments on both but, I think the rest of the country is starting to pay attention to the basketball program we have built. Never ran into a Xavier grad unfortunately, if I did I would buy them a beer on the plane no doubt.

Occasionally happens to me. I wear X gear all the time and get comments sometimes but there are two times that stand out most. Last year I was out to dinner with my family in the Detroit/Ann arbor area and we were watching the Georgia state game on the one tv in the place. A few minutes into the game when I was cheering a guy came over and introduced himself. Happened to be a '73 grad. So we watched the game with him.

The second time was 4-5 years ago. Was in northwestern part of the lower peninsula in Michigan and we were in a small town on the lake. That day I saw THREE separate families sporting X gear. Loved seeing the representation in such a random place.

Sitting in the Broken Egg about 3/4 years ago in Siesta Key and Dickie V walks in and heads right to the crapper. 15 minuets later he walks out of the bathroom, paper folded under his arm, walks by my table, sees my XHoops shirt, and says "Hey Xavier, Chris Mack is doing a great job".

He sat outside and had his books available to purchase, while he casually ate breakfast...wither entire proceeds going the the V Foundation. Great way to spend $20.

Yes, but do you love seeing Dick?

He is high on the list of Dicks I don't want to see. Wait, not that there's an actual list.....

My parents vacation there a few times a year and my dad always goes to the Broken Egg, he usually Reps the X (or ND) and Dickie V loves to talk to him about both.

I lived there for 18 years and Dick is at the Broken Egg all the time. He likes people to know where to expect to see him (though he moved to a 20,000 SF house on a tiny lot in Lakewood Ranch 30-45 minutes away years ago). Also in his red Mercedes convertible with the vanity plates and the top down, and at the first 2 innings of spring and minor league games (just long enough to be seen). The list is long. He's an attention whore. Most people there are over the guy.

This.......is......hilarious.

And public reps because I'm caught in the Winepress of Moderator oppression.

Oh. And Lakewood Ranch has a great Arnold Palmer designed golf course- The Legacy- that I played.....on 9/11. We had an early morning round and came back in the clubhouse to find that literally, all hell had broken loose.

Seriously, this is where the story ends? You did not yell "I bet that was a real PT Player in there!!! Did you leave behind a real Diaper Dandy, baby???"

So, a few years ago my girlfriend and I said goodbye to life in Cincinnati and went on an open ended trip to New Zealand. Upon landing in Wellington and unloading our few belongings at the hotel, we decided to venture out into our new hometown. Within one hour, a young lady walked up to us and asked me if I am from Cincinnati. Shocked, I told her yes and asked how she knew. She pointed to my Xavier jacket. I completely forgot I was even wearing it. It was an amazing coincidence though. She was from Kentucky and been living in Wellington for sometime. We immediately became friends. She knew all the ins-and-outs of life in this new world we knew almost nothing about. Thank you Xavier (jacket)!

I live in Michigan, obviously not too far away. I always wear X gear to train and have a winter X hat I wear all winter. So I pretty much leave the gym with X bball shorts, X shirt, and X skull cap.

I get asked if I played there all the time.

It helps that I'm 6'8"..........

My favorite story of this variety...

I was in Chicago for a long weekend, checking out the usual tourist spots...got on a bus wearing my X hat. Guy across from me looked at my hat and then held up a fist to show me his class ring and I could see the block "X" on it. I did the same gesture back to him. He didn't say anything, so I didn't either. I was a recent alum, so like 22 or something and he was in his 60's or 70's. It was awesome.

I have a Xavier license cover on the front of my car. Was at the grocery store a few years ago and a couple walks in front of me heading into the store. The guy stops and looks at me and throws up a big X over his head. It was Derrick Brown when he played for the Bobcats (Hornets)
