I agree that Seton Hall needs it more than Xavier (their bid is very likely but would be guaranteed with a win). I just hope there aren't fans treating them as desperate if Xavier loses this game. And this team has never suffered from emotional letdowns this year, so I doubt that will be an issue. The primary factors in Seton Hall's favor are that they match up fairly well with Xavier and they're playing on their home court. It's already a pretty tough game in a vacuum, and once again, the external factors probably won't be as significant as some might believe.

Like I just said, this team has never really been affected by their previous game. I guarantee they are just as confident before beating Villanova as they are now after, because before the game, they already "knew" they were going to win. So, nothing has changed other than the added satisfaction of actually beating them. Plus, the game is on Sunday, so they actually have extra prep time before the game.

This game is tough because Seton Hall is good, plain and simple.

When teams/athletes have an emotional win like X just did it can go two ways. Some teams/individuals will have a letdown and their performance in the next contest will suffer. However, in my experience, the ones that become champions build upon that victory and their performance remains at that same high level. A victory such as X just had can give them additional confidence and even a "swagger" that makes them a very difficult team to defeat. Looking back over the year we have seen the team have many big "tests", and many big successes, and I have not seen them have a letdown after any of them. For that reason, I am not concerned with a letdown. However, I am concerned that they might be looking ahead and could possibly overlook Seton Hall. I don't see this as a strong possibility, but it is still a possibility. I trust that Mack will do all in his power to keep this from happening and I expect another win.

This is true. If Kenpom did a separate ranking for games vs. A and B opponents (opponents equivalent to top 50 and top 100 teams on a neutral court), Xavier would probably easily be in the top 5.

Edit: Just to break it down, here are the victory margins against teams outside the Kenpom top 200:

7, 8, 9, 12, 31

Those aren't even respectable margins for a borderline top 50 team. Here are the margins against teams in the 100 to 200 range:

8, 12, 20, 21, 24

The 8-point margin in this case is Wake Forest, who was actually borderline top 100 at the time and playing on their court, so we can toss that one out for being unlike the others. It appears that Xavier nicely handles bad teams, though they don't blow them out by 30+ like they should. However, they have really not been good this year against really bad teams. When you watch the games, you see why: They're playing really loose and don't really care. I mean, fans don't entirely care either, so it's hard to blame them.

It's the same reason I was nervous about the Creighton game - a good opponent on its home court, playing a top 5 team, hoping to improve its resume. This will not be an easy win.

I've noticed throughout the season that when his intensity and tendency to get under opponents' skin is more noticeable, they rub off on the rest of the team. He really is a catalyst, and I tend to think his performance last night will only bolster his intensity on Saturday.

We had 7 defensive rebounds. They had 10 offensive rebounds. Can't make a free throw or a layup and the defense has been bad. It's the perfect storm of garbage.

They just need to chill out a bit. Missed layups are usually the result of pressing/stressing.

I thought we might lose, didn't think we would get clowned. SH is good, but like 8-9 seed good. We shouldn't be getting crushed. This is the worst basketball we've played all year, and it's really discouraging that it comes after our most complete game. Even with a letdown, I wouldn't expect to be down 20 at half.

Creighton is really our only big mistake in conference. We were down 10 at half and never recovered.
Doesn't look good today. We'll see how they handle real adversity. There's more games to go, so this isn't a killer.
