If you are a Nova and X fan. Really if you take a step back, what a great place to be. Good luck the rest of the way and enjoy the ride. Here's to seeing each other in two and half weeks. I've enjoyed your board this week; most of it anyway. Again good luck the rest of the way.

You guys too.

I love this league and, really, every school in it. I'm sick, however, of the Big State school honks who still want to demean and marginalized this league. All of us, or at least the 5 of 6 teams that make the Dance just have to bust the F-ing door down and get multiple teams to the Elite 8 & FF.

That being said, I hope we roll you tonight....of even better, that it is a 3 OT Classic that Xavier wins and people talk about it for decades.

Now that Tom DeCorte has made it to Cincy, is it any surprise that the honks in Bristol have an article on their front page about Villanova's early NCAA flameouts? It's just a matter of time before they bring up Xavier's gangstas as well.

I have to admit that every chat board i've visited this week has been full of nothing but compliments and good natured ribbing. I love this league and how everybody stands for each other..... but as bill murray says in caddyshack " I think the kidding around is pretty much over!" It's time to get some varment puntang tonight!!

Screw-em - tonight belongs to Big East Basketball. Villanova and Xavier (but more importantly...Xavier)

Word in the twitterverse that the varmit-slayer himself will be in the house tonight.

It will be interesting to see how many claim to have seen him, there or not!

Enjoy the win or wallow in the assumption of "inevitable disrespect"? The latter. Obviously. Because why enjoy the moment when we can lament the perceived slight...

It is never a bad day to outline Musketeer exploits as they march inexplicably toward national dominance.

He was there sitting a few rows behind Christi Mack.

So I had a gentleman come up to me with about 3 or 4 min left, and ask "Where's Bill Murray?!"

Me...WTF are you talking about random stranger?

He proceeds to go down about 6 more rows and I see him walk up to a guy, who turns around and, sure enough, is Bill Murray. Somehow I missed him sitting 20 feet away from me for the entire game. LOL.

Major LOL to all the people trying to discredit this win and say Nova was overrated. Blows my mind. First of all, the whole narrative that Nova lost to the 2 ranked teams they played OOC is so overplayed and stupid. They shot as bad as they could vs OK and OK shot lights out. Not to mention it was on a ship with 10 people there. Game was dumb. Oh, and then they lost at Virginia in a back and forth game where UVA hasn't lost 1 game all year. I don't understand why people can't just sit back and enjoy a great game and use a simple eye test to see how good these teams are. Don't know if Providence, SHU, or Butler will actually do anything this year.. So pray toooooo GOD that Nova makes a run. This conference needs it.

In terms of the game, 1st indication I got that this was not only a big time game but one with 2 great teams was the 1st play. Ed trying to bounce pass to Tre at the top of the key, and Jenkins had his hands all over him. Tre fought for the ball, dished it back to a cutting Ed and he made the layup falling down while getting bumped the whole way. I like that. Good no call and set the tone for the intensity. Perfect example of why this team is different and ready for the challenge. Past X teams might not be able to finish in times like that or might get rattled and thrown off their game. Best X home game I think I've ever seen.

Anyway, I hope he was nice.

Was awesome. I know a girl who was sitting right behind him. Said he was cool with everyone, joking around. He traded his hat for a t-shirt that the woman sitting two seats over from him caught out of the cannon.

It's been fun having him around the program. I'll be a little sad when Luke Murray moves on to coach his own program this offseason.

Same. I make it a point to talk to the minimum number of people possible at work, but 3 people I don't know have stopped me to talk about the game, including another X alum.

Agree with this. Also don't think his stock is anywhere near high enough to get a HC job already.

It wouldn't be crazy for him to leave after this year, but I could see him committing for a couple years to solidify his raised stock. I don't know if one-and-done works as well for coaches as it does for players. Think of Kareem Richardson going to UMKC.

Edit: In that analogy, mid-major assistant coaching is like high school ball, major assistant coaching is like college ball, and head coaching is like NBA ball.

I dont think it would be crazy for an assistant to leave after 1 year, especially for a HC job somewhere but I dont think Mack would hire someone who had this pre planned one and done scenario.

If Luke gets a HC job somewhere next year, more power to him, but I'm not sure, like someone else said, his stock is that high yet.

You get a good coach here, even if just for the year, and on the chance he doesn't like the openings that are available, he maybe stays a year or two longer. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't do it -- especially since he probably came with a good rec from Sean Miller.

0% truth to the one and done. Honestly no clue where that came from.

He literally just got married here and I believe they just bought a house too....

One and done to where? A head coaching job? Why does he need Xavier if his stock is already so hi? How does being at best the 2nd in line assistant improve his stock for a HC job?

And if it one and done to be an assistant at another program no way Mack does it.

Of course it's unsubstantiated -- that's the way this kinda stuff is by it's very nature. I just remember hearing it talked about back when he was hired that he was, potentially, a short-termer here just looking to get a rub off working for a program like X before heading out on his own to a smaller program to build a name for himself. Whether that's true or not is anyone's guess.

Have not heard anything about Luke being one and one and with all of the changes to the staff in recent seasons, I also doubt he would have been hired by Mack for one season.

xufan2434
02-25-2016, 03:06 PM
I don't think it's a 1 and done just because it isn't that common. However, I heard all the same things as CAVEAT when he was hired. It was more a testament of how good he is though. The rep on Luke was that he has been killing it everywhere he's been and climbing the ladder at an extreme rate. He got his first break in 07 I believe at Quinnipiac and his longest tenure has been 3 years at Rhode Island. Been at several schools so far. He recruits his ass off so it's great to have him on the staff. In terms of him leaving, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he leaves after another year or 2. It probably depends on what Steele is going to do and if he'll ever leave for a HC position. If there's no room for Luke to be promoted here, I'd assume he'll leave

I think his stock is high enough to get SOME head coaching gig but he probably needs more time to get a solid job. That's why I gave the Richardson to UMKC example. He came via Xavier then Louisville yet that's what he landed. Pretty uninspiring. If Murray stays somewhere, Xavier or equivalent, for a few years, I bet he finds much better head coaching prospects than otherwise because of how much his stock is rising.
