There is a crap ton of great publicity circulating in the national sports media about the game. I'm going to start dumping them in this thread.
Doc's article in today's Enquirer is quite good. Yahoo sports has a piece on how this game could kickoff a resurgence of Catholic basketball not since since the days of Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, and Ed Pinckney. Hopefully so ...
Doc's article - Xavier-Villanova should be preposterously good (http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/xavier/2016/02/23/doc-preposterously-good/80818986/)
Yahoo article - Why Villanova-Xavier clash is historically, religiously relevant (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-villanova-xavier-clash-is-historically--religiously-relevant-032641954-ncaab.html)

Associated Press - Xavier-Villanova Preview (http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/gametracker/preview/NCAAB_20160224_NOVA@XAVIER/villanova-xavier-preview)
This has a lot of quotes from the players. They definitely seem ready, especially Farr.

This is about as good as it gets....I'm loving the publicity, the fact that's it's here on our turf and the fact that we have a chance to exorcise some demons.......bring it on......tonight is going to be a blast!!!!

From Doc's article:
Xavier is smart and together and highly well coached. Players mostly stay on Victory Parkway long enough to get their degrees. Those that don’t maybe wish they had. Unless it’s more fun playing in Italy for modest money than at a sold-out looney bin like Cintas Center in the Biggest Regular Season Game Ever.
"modest money" is likely 4x Doc's salary...so there is that.

Yeah, that little snipe at Semaj was stupid.

not looking to cause a huge debate, but if Semaj had stayed, where would he likely have been drafted this year? No one will ever know.....but I have to believe that he'd be a first rounder if his development and potential continued on the path it was on the first two years.

We need to stop quoting the douchebag that is Paul Daugherty. This UC frontrunner has no place on this board today or any other day.

Not about the game, but USA Today did an article about Ed. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/bigeast/2016/02/23/xavier-basketball-edmond-sumner/80807148/

Pretty unnecessary shot at a kid just trying to make a living. Shouldn't expect anything less from Doc though.

Really good read about Ed. Three cheers to him for the hard work and also to the strength and conditioning team for their guidance.

Or, alternatively, if you want to play the what-if game: if Semaj had never committed, would we have landed Devauntes Smith Rivera and, if so, how would this team be looking with him on it?

And if we had landed DSR, would we have landed Myles? This can go on forever!

Not really. Semaj got some really stupid advice, another year and he may have got a GUARANTEED CONTRACT.

"May have." More than likely, he would have been in the same spot a year later.

I refuse to click on articles written by Doc. But I love the other stuff!
Also, if you haven't heard, the Naismith Trophy will be on display on the concourse today, gonna get there early anyway so I'm going to have to take a peek at that.

yeah he probably would have been in about the same position. borderline 1st/2nd at best, but probably somewhere in the 2nd round. He played in the D League for a year and obviously didnt improve enough to warrant a spot on an NBA roster, so why would it be any different if he stayed at Xavier.

The OKC GM still thinks highly of Semaj. Before this season started Presti said "this time next year Christon will be on an NBA roster. Maybe not in OKC, but somewhere"

Jesus Christ... Shit like that is why I haven't read Doc in years. F*ck him. I'd much rather have Semaj's life than his piss poor existence.

But you don't improve in the NBA! I assume that's the foolish logic that some go with. He may have earned a roster spot somewhere, as he left for Italy before the camps really started, but he's probably better off. He's making six figures while living abroad, and he's getting the opportunity to make a jump back to the NBA if he performs well enough in Italy.
