And yes, we should be ranked higher than Gonzaga, but in good company nonetheless.
Xavier, the Hoyas, Marquette and Butler are 25-22 respectively and Nova is in the teens.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it but it looks like a team making it to the elite 8 does't get them points, but getting to the sweet sixteen (and the final four) does. If that's the case, I think it's a bit of a flawed way of measuring which programs are best.
Also, if the ranking of teams in the polls is heavily factored into the points, then certain schools (who always seem to get a little more love by voters of the polls) will earn points unfairly and could be ranked higher than they should be due to bias in the media.
Or am I reading this all wrong?

Seems like overall appearance get the most points. Zags have a couple more than us but that is their only advantage over us and they are higher ranked. Weird.

I'm surprised they used the Coach's Poll as their measure of success.

The only thing they are using for points is the final Coach's Poll of each season since 2000-2001. They do the total points just like a regular poll. 25 points for finishing first, all the way down to 1 point for finishing 25th. The other stats are just there for informational purposes.

Also weird is Pitt is listed at #12 with 5 sweet sixteen appearances to our 6 and with no final four appearances and less trips to the dance at that time.
Ranking in polls must count for a lot of points or maybe being seeded higher in tournament. Who am I kidding... I have no clue how they came to rank the programs where they did except for the 11 programs at the top.

Okay... Thanks... MauriceX... That makes much more sense now. Still feels a bit flawed though. Pitt is ranked above X because they were given a higher ranking in the polls not because they played better in NCAA tournaments (when most people would agree it really matters). At least that's how I feel.

Regular season matters too. I wouldn't rank LaSalle's Sweet 16 run out of the play-in game higher than Villanova's 2nd round loss back in 2013.

Uconn has 4 titles, not 3 like the website says.
They won in 1999, 2004, 2011, and 2014. This list stinks.

I usually don't worked up by these things, but really, Michigan St over Uconn?
Also, Uconn has owned Kentucky's existence the last 25 years. Ughh, I'm more upset at this than I should be.

The problem with all of these types of things is that they are usually completed by a single person...and that person is swayed or influenced by their own perceptions.........Its nice getting recognized......but it also sucks being slotted behind a program that "earned" their spot in a ranking mostly due to someone's opinion and not clear cut results.

Guys, the writer simply added up each team's final ranking in the Coach's Top 25 Poll of the last 15 years. Finishing 1st = 25 points, 2nd = 24 points, and so on. And it was only looking at the last 15 years (2000-2001 season and on) so the article just listed Sweet 16's, etc that the schools have made since then.
It basically just provides an indicator of how consistently good each school has been over the best 15 years (based solely on the final coach's poll of each year).

Yeah, I just reread the criteria....I think he should have also taken the time to award points to National Champions, Final Fours, Elite 8's and Sweet 16's. I wonder how those results would have changed the rankings.....

I don't think 1999 is in the 21st century.

I hate the click bait that you have to scroll through individual pages to see who the teams are. Takes forever. My complaint really should be on the Pet Peeves thread.
But seriously, using "polls" to rank teams...when polls are nothing more than weighted opinions- mostly toward big ass schools not necessarily on full on court performance.
