"Would LOVE another opportunity to see these guys in the Big East tournament" - Ed Cooley on X in his post game press conference.

We match up well with Providence, I'd be fine playing them again in the BE tourney.

He just wants to play us so when his team loses another game at least it's not a bad loss on their resume.

I also happen to be a huge Fairfield University fan (where Cooley coached before PC). Ed is nothing but class and a great guy. I don't think he meant anything by this.

We'd be a signature win to get providence a much better NCAA seed. The only other chance would be Nova. on a neutral floor maybe we don't get so hot early.

Ed's one of the classiest guys in the business. I don't think it was a slight at all. I suspect he was just saying that after going 0-2 against us in the regular season, he'd like the opportunity to get one back.

I kind of get being a fan but to use the word HUGE doesn't compute. No way there can possibly be HUGE Fairfield fans. Although you did say University so maybe you support other programs they may be great at.

Providence had better worry about getting into the field at all at this point. That's far from a sure thing.

Root hard for Butler to crack top 50.
SH needs to stay there (42)
OU and Iowa and UNC all lost last night moving X up a line maybe to a solid 2. 1 seed?

Palm says #1 and with putting Virginia #1 out west, would appear to be a solid #1. So, there is that.

Getting Butler in the Quarter Finals and then Providence in Semi Finals would probably be best case scenario for us honestly.

Lets worry about Saturday first. We are playing a team that lit us up last month and we need total focus on Saturday. We cannot be looking ahead to next Wednesday, conference tourney, etc.

Right now too many bubble hopefuls like lsu, St Bonnie's and fsu are losing bad games to threaten providence right now

I think anyone who is financially and emotionally invested in any team can say "we" I don't have a problem with it.

I think the issue is with people saying "we" cant look ahead. WE can. The team can't.

Haha true. However I've had a lot of family that went there and grew up watching their games. I'm still an avid fan.

Yes yes, there's games, blah blah blah. But if we do match up with Providence in the Big East tournament, I have full faith we go in there and beat them again. That game last night could have been a 20 point blow out if it wasn't for Luckie being drunk while officiating. Let Dunn and Bentil get theirs (sp/grammar?), and make people like Fazekas, or Bullock try to beat us. I think we're too deep, and can wear Providence down quite well. Also, I agree, not a dig at us, Cooley is nothing but class. He definitely just wants another shot at us, I think it speaks to his competitive nature more than anything.

I have always considered the notion that "It is difficult to beat a team three times" a bit curious. If you beat a team twice, unless both games were really close, back-and-forth, evenly matched games...I would contend that, chances are you are going to beat them again.

I understand the "If we play them 10 times we win 9 (or 8...whatever)" ...(tell that to VD)...but I have always contended that we would rather play a team that you have already dominated last two meetings in the same season. No doubt.

Anyone who says this about fans, is fooling themselves. If we could play the games on message boards, we would be undefeated this season, ready to defend our national championship trophy again!

Initially took the comments like Ed was salty and Providence felt like they could take X based on the 2nd half. I think it was more the context Rick used in his tweet. Dunn was a hot head in the 2nd half, and I don't know how much JP initiated all of it, but it just added to my impression that other teams don't like X. And I'm perfectly fine with that and target will be huge on our backs at MSG, but it has been all year so that's no different.

I've heard nothing but great things about Ed and saw him and Mack we're talking for a lengthy time in between halves and were very friendly about it. Mack has also said he loves hanging out with Ed on recruiting trips and BE coaching meetings. Seems more to me Ed said this because Chris is his friend and it's a rivalry that he got swept in this year. Always want another shot to get one back

We can look ahead as far as we want. I'm getting really excited about next years team and repeating our national championship.

you really think that? Every school has groups of HUGE fans who are very loyal, especially when it comes to Jesuit/Catholic schools and basketball. You just probably would never run in to any unless you were in the area of the school.

Providence's remaining schedule includes road games at Seton Hall and St. John's; their home games are Creighton and DePaul. They should be able to get at a minimum a 3-1 mark in those final 4 games.

I'm not confident in them beating either Seton Hall or Creighton. I definitely could see them going to St. John's desperately needing a win.

That's why I said should, not will. In one respect, it's good that Xavier didn't completely humiliate the Friars last night. On the other hand, Seton Hall is more bubblish and needs their game against the Friars even more.

I'm not sure I want us facing Dunn and Bentil fighting for their lives in the BE Tourney. It's tough enough to beat a team 3 times in one season without that dynamic.

You're gonna have to beat a few titans to win the title - as it stands right now, Xavier's road goes through Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova. Providence is still on Villanova's side of the bracket.

I hate when fans say this. Nothing wrong with fans on here talking or lookin ahead. It's the players and coaches job to not look ahead, not fans on a message board. Relax and have a little fun thinking of scenarios

Meh, Dunn and Bentil have been good against us, they would need someone else to really go off. We're just too deep and a bad matchup for them. Also, Dunn playing with more urgency doesn't usually make him better. He's kind of turnover prone when he presses, but he has to when they have no one else to carry the load.

I don't know about you but that 2020 matchup vs butler has got me hype. It's gonna be the next time they have a chance to beat us and I can't wait for that competitive game. Water fountains watch out!!!

No way PC wins v. XU at MSG. Four more games for Bentil and Dunn's very tired legs and then it's at MSG. Plus we are an INCREDIBLY bad matchup for PC. XU wins 8-10 times against them.
