They are under .500 in conference. They were still trying to get the ball down the court quickly, they hadn't stopped playing, so why should we?
Butler fans are like scolded little children who just are windmill punching at their bigger brother. Stop it already, you got handed it to you, let it go.

They also both shoot threes pretty well. But if that is the only qualification then Brad Redford is basically Steph Curry.

I would have to agree. My brother asked me yesterday what Xavier player I would compare to JP, and I said Chris Mack before he blew both his knees blew out.
Before he blew both knees out Chris Mack had some mad hops for a white boy. He could throw it down with authority.
He also was not the most beloved player on the court. Dayton fans still talk about it. The man left a lasting impression.
I wonder about what coach thinks about the comparison. Would be an interesting question for the coach's show.

I pre-game at Listerman's. There is no need to buy me a beer; it's the thought that counts. BUT if you have your heart set on treating me, how about meeting up at D'Artagnon's Deck 15 minutes before game time?
BTW my guest for the Providence game is my niece's husband. He's from Minneapolis, went to Wisconsin, and is a huge sports fan. He can't believe that Wisconsin and Minnesota let JP get away from their programs. As I recall, Minnesota offered, but I think Wisconsin totally missed him. Our gain.

Mack was actually asked in a recent postgame, I believe after the 20-point outburst. He said he was a much better rebounder, J.P. was a better shooter, and J.P. was more involved in the extracurriculars. Overall, he seemed to enjoy the comparison.

Without a doubt. His vision is by far the best. Some of the cuts he makes in the lane without the ball are pure instinct. Need more of it because he's not fast/quick enough to be getting open running along the baseline off picks. Great pass to Q earlier too. You could tell he was giving them everything he had last night. Hopefully he got as much rest as possible last night

Yes- he was fantastic- far less bad plays and many more smart plays than he has All season. Last night was proof that if JP continues to be tenacious like we know he is capable and if he is just a little more patient and smarter with the ball, good things will happen for him and the team around him. He hustled his tail off, he passed with purpose, he was often selfless-looking for open teammates, he helped create better chemistry... and maybe most importantly, he single handedly helped build up tremendous confidence in his freshman point guard at a time when the team needs him most.
JP was exactly who his team needed him to be. Tre may have had the most points and Q may have made more heads turn, but make no mistake, JP was clearly the MVP last night. He was the most complete player and the one who helped most in making his teammates better.

Really worried about this one. With the current makeup of the team, they have to feed the post in order for there to be any spacing. And God forbid Shid or Sean try to make a move without it being a charge. I lost it last night when they called that 2nd one on Shid which was a clear flop

A few words on Mr. Myles Fox Morrissey:
J.P. Macura has been a baller since he first set foot on campus. He has had numerous huge moments and huge games in career. However, against Florida State were the best minutes he has played in a Xavier uniform. He really elevated his team at the most important time.
J.P. really seems to have matured in his game in the past few weeks. The gunslinger is still there, but it seems to be smartly contained within what the team is doing.
Watching J.P. step into the role of running the team was nothing short of amazing. You could visibly see he left it all on the floor last night.
It is a pleasure watching J.P. extend his junior campaign playing at this level. Keep it rolling, MFM.

JP has been asked to do a lot this season given the roster changes. He has responded to the call. At times it seemed too much to burden him with, but we don't have another point guard. He has been both our best and worst passer this year, making highlights and some lowlights.
We didn't have another choice, and it is a heavy load to bear. He has improved and is bringing his A game. It has made him a better player. And we would not still be dancing without him.
I would agree that his game has come together in the last few weeks. I salute the young man. He has turned a disadvantage into an advantage. He had 5 assists yesterday to 1 turnover. Wish he didn't have that one at the time but that happens. He is one of the Generals on the court and a big part of what we do. He stepped into a role, or was forced into it, and we are stronger because of it.

JP has matured a ton in the last month. The best change, would be his fake 3 and drive move. Early in the season he isn't faking that shot. Now, he is and is getting open, easier shots, or dishing it for wide open looks. A somewhat small change to his game, but the impact has been huge.

He soooo get in their head. That has to work in our favor.
If you were an opposing coach, what would be your strategy? Tell your team to just ignore him and not let him get into your head, that's all he's trying to do? Then they will be thinking how much he's going to try to get into their head, which might be even more of a distraction. I think X wins either way.
Or not say anything and hope your guys are mature enough to not let it get to them (which doesn't seem to be working for many players and even coaches perhaps, for sure one in particular).

Literally though, it's pick your poison, but as an opposing coach I would say keep your mouth shut because time and time again it's been proved that if you say something to JP, he will play significantly better. I have no problem at all with a player displaying emotion on the court. But it should never be displayed directly toward spectators. Using opposing fan’s heckling for motivation is fine, in fact I would encourage that. What he did was shut the crowd up with that spectacular dunk and I love that. He didn’t get into anyone’s face on the court and he didn’t stand in front of the crowd and say anything or do anything. He is never going to be an opposing fan’s favorite, but I’m glad he is on Xavier’s team.

Did you catch what he said when he retreated on defense after the jam ? You did not need to read lips all that well to see " ____off!"
I thought he said “let’s f’in go!” which is more of general statement than something directed towards the other team/fans.
Banners had the picture of JP after the dunk in their write up and the image on the faces of the Seton Hall fans is priceless. So someone out there who has less alcohol in their system than I do who can post the picture will bring utter happiness to this great fan base.
Thank you fort asking.....

While watching it live there was a woman about 10 (?) rows up that actually covered her mouth in a shock and awe gasp. This would be the PERFECT clip to have one of those ESPN “__ Things You Missed” segments, where they pause the clip in slow mo and highlight a fan reaction.

Heard lots of "JP sucks" throughout second half. I love hearing that about one of our players instead of yelling it about someone else's player.
Absolutely.

I can’t stop watching that dunk. It really never gets old how is this possible...
I was in attendance. I think I've been to all of our games at Seton Hall since the conference began. It's a surprisingly hostile crowd for a program we have little to no history with. That, plus the fact that we haven't had much success against them recently, kept me subdued most of the game. Oh and someone yelled at me that JP is a pedophile before the game even began.
The hate for him was palpable. The 'JP Sucks' chants were well organized and executed from the very start. You really would have thought this was a rematch with Wisconsin. What has JP ever done to Seton Hall? His reputation precedes him I guess. Regardless, his steal and then put-back were the perfect opportunity to start yelling 'JP Sucks' back at the student section.
To any Big East fans reading this, please keep antagonizing him. Those chants really get in his head and are bound to work.

Yes, I re-watched the 2nd half with my wife yesterday because she hadn't seen the game live on Saturday. I didn't tell her when the dunk was coming and she about jumped out of her seat when it happened! JP's second half was a thing of basketball beauty. I find myself referring to him as J F'ing P.

I have also been at all the losses by X at Pru Center. Unknown why SHU crowd gets up for our game other than we have been a top 25 team coming in on most occasions and SHU is always looking for a "Signature Win". This was the first 2017-18 appearance for the Lobsters in the student section. JP had a lot of fun with them pre-game. JP stepped back to half court for them and buried a swish (Bottom for MOR!). They went nuts and Luke Murray earned push ups for the shot!
Would love to see our student section bring out lobster pots to the 2/14 rematch and dump the lobsters in the pot!

BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
J.P. Macura, Xavier, G, Sr.
Macura led Xavier to a 2-0 week, including a 73-64 win
at No. 19 Seton Hall. In the win against the Pirates,
Macura scored a season-high 27 points, grabbed
five rebounds and dealt three assists. He had 18 of
his points in the second half to help the Musketeers
overcome a 10-point deficit. In an 88-82 victory over
St. John’s, he had 16 points to go along with four assists
and three rebounds. For the week, the senior guard
averaged 21.5 points, while shooting 58.3 percent from
the field and was 6-of-10 from 3-point range.

Big East Feature - Macura’s Attitude Makes Xavier Winners (http://www.bigeast.com/news/2018/1/26/mens-basketball-macuras-attitude-makes-xavier-winners.aspx?path=)
You can love him or you can hate him, but there is certainly no ignoring him.
It’s not hard to spot J.P Macura on the court, even before the opening tip goes up. Macura, Xavier’s brash senior, is the one who is always on the receiving end of angry invectives from opposing crowds. The one who receives the lion’s share of the abuse wherever Xavier travels. And the one who expects it on a nightly basis.
Macura’s edgy attitude stems from a competitive spirit he developed growing up in Lakeville, Minn. Always being the younger brother who was never good enough in basketball or anything else only served to grow the ultra-competitive persona you see today.

I met a couple at a bar last night who are both Xavier season ticket holders and big fans. One of them remarked on how JP seems to be more focused in road games than home games, playing his best when the fans are on him. They were wondering if JP would do better in home games if Xavier fans got on his case for slacking off in home games. The comment was made in jest, but I wonder. I would love to see JP "bring it" more consistently on his home court. Thoughts?

Slightly overlooked in the postgame analysis, J.P. Macura's SoulCrusher (https://youtu.be/pqQWk5kx6Vw?t=101) at 1:39 left with 3 seconds on the shot clock putting Xavier up 10 totally deflated any hope of a Seton Hall comeback. It is always coiled and ready.

He was very silently efficient against Hall, hoping that translates to him showing out in a big way against Nova. God bless, 24 hours away and I'm already jacked for it. Hoping we put a strangle hold on the Big East and are flagship again!! Where the hell is Snipe with a pump up post when you need him??
