Given that the Gavitt Games take place at about the same time as the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament, I thought Xavier might be out of the Gavitt Games for next season. The PR Tournament includes Oklahoma, Arizona State, Northern Iowa, Missouri, Clemson, Davidson, and Tulane. That should also be a nice field.

Love the Colorado matchup. Should be a pretty good team next year. Currently a 17-5 team with an RPI of 22. They have a 9 man rotation most nights this year. They will lose their best player, but they'll only be losing him and the guy who is 8th in that rotation. Should be an experienced team who will make the tournament.

The Puerto Rico, Charleston and Paradise Jam tournaments are played the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. If Xavier does play in the Gavitt Games next year, it would have to be on the Monday prior to PR for travel reasons. The games in PR are played on Thursday, Friday and Sunday; I'd assume that the Tuesday that week would be Xavier's travel day.

Ah, the trip down Memory Lane. My father always ordered a perfect Manhattan on the rocks with a twist. (If it came with a cherry he docked them on the tip.). My college aged self went to dinner with my parents one night, and I ordered the same. Shortly after dinner, I was going to buy more beer for the people playing pool in my basement (while the parents went in another direction), and I rear ended a station wagon I thought was going to get a turn arrow. The cops were quick and easy (today it would be off to jail) and I took beer back before shutting the night down early. The next morning I woke to go down and explain the wrecked front end of the car to my parents having coffee on the back patio. My mother asked if alcohol was involved. "Oh, no, of course not!" I said. She responded "good, now go out in the front yard and pick up all the beer bottles!" My "friends" had strewn about a case of beer bottles across the front yard. In my mind it comes back to the Manhattans that allowed me to lose control of that crowd.

Moral of the story: 1) don't trust 20 year old drinkers. 2) I don't drink brown stuff.

Sorry for the tangent, but I couldn't help myself. My how times have changed. We have since paid for not one, but TWO DUI's for a son (who no longer drinks), one of which was a .082. The .002 really blows! Pun real but intended.

Yeah, considering the fact that Oklahoma will lose 3 of their top 4 scorers who account for almost 40ppg including the otherworldly Buddy Heild, there really is no one in that field that should scare us. Northern Iowa loses 3 of their top 4 scorers too who account for 35 ppg.

Arizona State and Davidson might be good.

Az State had an 8 man rotation this year that all averaged between 6.6 ppg and 14. They lose the 2nd 5th and 7th leading scorers from that rotation, but they are getting the #40 and #87 recruits.

If Jack Gibbs returns for one more season at Davidson, they'll be a contender in the A-10 for next season. I don't know why they were down this year, but they looked very ordinary after Pittsburgh did unspeakable things to Davidson in their matchup at MSG back in December.

Playing MSU at home would be great, as long as we win, i know too many MSU people to rub it in if we lose haha. It is a good point that we would play them in the first week or so of the season, and hopefully beat them before they figure everything out with their young/talented team.

I like this for a buy game. They finished second in the Patriot league last year. They had a 9 man rotation with their 5 starters averaging between 9.6 and 17.7 points along with 4 bench players averaging a combined 10.3. The only starter they lose is the guy who averaged 9.6, so their 4 top scorers will be back. They were 168 in RPI last year, so I imagine they'll probably be top 150 next year.
