I did a search but couldn't find the rules anywhere so I apologize if this is already somewhere in the forum. Can you explain the rules for Pick the Score? I've done it for every game except one or two this year and I've even finished in the money once or twice but I can't figure out how the scoring works. Thanks.

It's like the force...and only Skywalker has it.

its the difference in scoring for each teams points subtracted from 100, and you get a 5 point bonus for picking the winning team.

If you pick Xavier 95 and Dayton 30. And the Actual score is Xavier 100, Dayton 28, than you would score a 93, then add 5 for picking the winning team and you have a 98 for your score.

Pretty sure that is how it works, but not sure if that was a good way to describe it or not.

if you pick the exact score, than you would get a maximum score of 105.

Skywalker posts the rules at the beginning of each season. Here they are:

Pick the Score - Miami

It's November and time for Xavier Basketball.

Anyone up for another season of Pick the Score?

Scoring Rules
Net the difference from the actual Xavier score and your predicted Xavier score.
Net the difference from the opponent score and your predicted opponent score.
Add these two numbers together and subtract from 100.
Award a 5 point bonus for picking the winning team.
Award a 25 point bonus for predicting both the winner and the exact score of the game.

Scoring Example
You pick Xavier to beat Miami 74-52
Xavier wins 69-54
74-69 = 5 (Xavier component)
54-52 = 2 (Miami component)
5+2 = 7 (Sum both components)
100 – 7 = 93 (Subtract from 100)
93 + 5 (Add winning team bonus) = 98 (Your score)

There will be a Top 10 recap for each game, Year-to Date totals for the entire season and a separate Big East total for conference opponents.

Note: It does say conference opponents. If the event that Xavier was to play a Big East opponent in any tournament, that game will be counted in the Big East scoring.

This contest is for amusement only.

I'd also like to say that I'm impressed with the picking skills of many on this board. I'm usually way off.

SkyWalker also mentioned that entries won't be accepted after tipoff anymore. He calls it the PaulXU rule, but it should be the KabeX rule. I know it's gametime once his pick comes in.

I guess you cannot pick the score after your've seen the starting lineups.

I think he's going with the schedule for TV for when the game starts; for example, FS 1 says tonight's game is at 8:30...and that's the deadline.

They might not tip off until 8:41 (or something) because an earlier game goes long, no one is sitting in their seats, unusual rendition of national anthem, drudy loses his shorts, Kahn's takes extra long bathroom break, whatever. But a 8:35 entry doesn't count anymore, even if it's Skywalker's daughter.

(Like I should care with my track record)

You forgot the rule that if you pick Xavier's opponent to win, and Xavier wins, you lose 100 points.

Well, it should be a rule.

Wow, I missed this thread altogether. Sorry WHEELHOUSE. Thanks MUSKIEFAN82 for providing the rules. I agree with everything said inm this thread except losing 100 points if you pick against X and they win, especially tonight. I have always struggled with when picks should be cut off. Last Saturday my daughter, who was in like 5th place overall, posted at 2:09. She was disqualified; thus the introduction of the PAULXU rule. I do recall several years back, someone picked the score of a Thanksgiving tournament game a couple hours after the game had ended --- and they weren't even close.

Don't blame Go. Things are tough in Kansas.
