One of my favorite kids, who is from Cleveland and I had coached in basketball- Pat Carroll- was a manager for the last 4 years before he graduated in May. He filled me in on many things and loved the job of being a manager. Last year's Sweet 16 run was a fitting conclusion to his career.

That little closet with all those shorts is probably what Drudy sees when he thinks about heaven.

Is that a paid or volunteer position?

My son is at about 6 minute mark in video, tall blonde kid doing the laundry. It is paid but not nearly enough for amount of hours but he knew that going into it. There are other perks: he has more gear than he knows what to do with, some of which are only team issued stuff; gets team meals for home games, 2 tickets for every home game. My son is not behind the bench this year's due to being a freshmen. He is up top of section 212 filming the games. He does not get to travel until next season. The upper class men get first dibs on traveling.

Jez, doing laundry on game day until 2 a.m.? That sucks. Couldn't they wait until the next day?

Nice for the resume too.

I'm in 214- have definitely talked to your son before on the way to Dart's Deck. Good kid that loves X bball. Lucky to have him as a manager.

That's cool! He is thinking about getting into coaching down the road. He is really enjoying the experience so far. He played HS ball for St. X and started Senior season; had some D-3 contact for hoops but didn't want to got that route. His AAU and HS careers were plagued by injuries, unfortunately. There is a chance he tries to walk on next season. If not, he will continue to be a manager. I am fine with whatever he wants to do. He is making great contacts.
