Just caught part of Sportscenter and saw UC, Butler, Arizona and Purdue highlights. Anybody know if they also showed highlights of X game tonight?

Even more coverage with the 5a/6a SportsCenter. Thought number 2 in SVP's three main thoughts from a night of 100+ College games.
SVP's take on X: X comes back on the road. Ranked 6th, best start in school history. "Chris Mack has got a squad"
Right after that they went right into the X/WF highlights. Then they did the Nova highlights. I think it was the Big East segment of the show. ;-)
Side Note: Not sure why ESPN has so much trouble pronouncing Remy Able's last name.

X shouldn't have too much issues getting on SVP's version of SportsCenter since an X grad is one of the producers. (someone can correct me if I got his title wrong, but I know an X grad is involved with the SVP SC somehow)

I'm torn on this.
Part of me says, "F-ck ESPN and SC" - but I know there are still a lot of potential players/students/donors/fans that watch the World Wide Leader.
At some point they will not be able to help but wade into the rising storm that is Musketeer Basketball, alumni producer not-withstanding.
Otherwise, "F-ck ESPN"

Correct. 98 Grad Tom Decorte is his producer

SVP also loves college hoops, as any good Maryland grad should.

SVP asked Mack if it bothered him to go to a 1-3-1 and if he didnt like it, he said pretty emphatically no.

Enjoyed that quick interview. They showed a clip of remy in Orlando after we got a steal and out on the fast break. I feel like that's a large thing that has been missing lately. We haven't really been scoring in transition and once you're in a half court set its that much more difficult to score. If we could get that transition dimension back I think that is what will really see us go far. I think it starts with remy. We need to get him scoring in transition more effectively.

It comes down to Remy getting good outlet passes on the break. Dee was great at that, but no one has really filled that role consistently this season.

Was thinking the same thing. Dee pushed it and made deliveries. Also, need steals and turnovers in order to get fast break points which they haven't been getting. Need to get back to smothering defense with all that length

Pretty lame question, IMHO. What was he expected to say. "I hate the 1-3-1 and I'm worried that everybody else thinks were p*ssies for using it"?

...as opposed to "one-and-done" type recruits? (Glad to hear it - hope it is true - a whole 'nuther discussion thread)!

Agreed. Also requires the other team missing shots, and somebody getting a clean rebound without everybody having to crash the boards...

I think Sumner plays faster and pushes faster tempo than Dee. I always thought Dee slowed down our ball movement significantly, which considering our scoring balance this year I think I've been proven correct.

I think that's exactly what he expected him to say. Nothing better for an interview with a coach than for them to admit to having to change their stubborn ways in order to adapt and win.
While I wish we were scoring more in transition, we did put up 90 points in two "bad" games before the infamous 1/21 behind the arc game. Yes, lay ups and dunks are great, but it's not our biggest issue in my mind. But certainly one of many.... (And it can build confidence, which I think is high up on the list of issues.)

Our ball movement was great last year too, which is why our offensive efficiency ranking is almost the same from year to year and actually slightly higher last year. And the scoring was actually even more balanced last year than this year.
The game was slower last year not because of Dee but because of a lumbering Matt Stainbrook being one of the focal points. There was still good ball movement, but it was more methodical and precise. As for fast breaks, it's a simple fact that Dee was great at pushing the fast breaks. The set they always ran is called the Phoenix. Off rebounds, Dee would receive the ball at the type of the arc and then push it forward, making great outlet passes to Remy or Semaj ahead of him running down one side or to a shooter running down the other.
Sumner pushes the ball too, but it's usually staying in his hands, not being thrown ahead to the next guy. It leads to some great transition plays, particularly in the secondary break when he catches defenses napping, but overall, Dee and the Phoenix was more efficient.

This is 100% on point. I'm also sick of people still trying to demean Dee Davis. Hell, the guy arguably A)Singlehandedly won the SucKS game last year, B) Saved our season with a veteran play at Creighton C) Led the team to another Sweet 16.
Gawd, people. Get off his jock.

For the record, I don't expect Sumner to run the Phoenix like Dee did, because it's not his forte personally and definitely not his forte in comparison to Dee. That set is actually run best when Myles is in Dee's old spot and Sumner is up ahead like Remy and the shooters. The best transition play usually takes savvy passing to start it, and Myles offers that. Sumner and Remy offer the athleticism and finishing ability.

Also, I don't think it's a bad thing that the scoring was more balanced last season, nor do I think it's a significant difference. Bluiett being ahead of the pack, so to speak, is a reflection of his improved scoring ability. There's nothing wrong with the best player on the team scoring a few points per game more than the second leading scorer. It's just silly to act like Xavier's offense wasn't great last year. It was different, but both last year and this year were highly efficient.

Exactly. And Remy used to really feed off Dee launching passes to him the second Dee had the ball. Edmond's speed is unmatched but dribbling up the court is never as fast as passing. Not that I don't like Sumner running the break, just doesn't bode as well to get Remy going. Dee was as good as it gets after made baskets especially. He'd start at the elbow but almost catch the inbound pass on his way to half court and push it for any possible quick chances.
