An article on the ESPN website I found highlights how many seniors are a major factor in the success of thier teams this year. James Farr gets a mention but little else. It prompted me to look back at his recruitment or lack thereof.

He was rated a two star by ESPN and on 247 his rating is not given. Not worthy I guess or below the radar. A google search brings up next to nothing except a quote on Rivals. The Indiana Rivals site mentions him but it appears to be just a quote from a subscriber. When I press the link it is not accessible unless you are a member. (anyone a member?) The teaser info given looks like it may refer to Indiana (Crean) missing out again on a solid somewhat local player. His critics outnumber his followers big time, without doubt. After his quote on Mack years ago I despise the guy. I could see Archie Miller there next year.

I would love to know what the thread says but no matter what he is a poster child for Xavier's ability and history of finding and developing low rated power forward types. He and Jason Love came to the program with almost no interest from any other schools yet what program would not want either of them in their senior year? Crickets.

James Farr is like icing on the cake this year. Have a big night tonight James!

Farr is from Chicago, so he really isn't an IU local kid. That said, I would put him in the BJ Raymond category for a guy with the most improvement from his freshman to senior year. He is light years improved from his freshman year. He is one of the best rebounders in the country and has developed a nice inside game. He is also a good defender.

Well done, James.

During his freshman year, James Farr got virtually no playing time on the worst Xavier team of the last 30 years. So yes, it's quite amazing what he's become.

He was a 3 star recruit on both Scout and Rivals

In addition to the tremendous improvement in his game, I LOVE his attitude and maturity. He's OK coming off the bench. He smiled and laughed next to Ellis during breaks in the UC game, not feeding their fire. I just trust him to do the smart thing and help keep the team on track. He's a team guy.

Jason Love would also be a good comparison. Another big guy who went from little minutes early in his X career then had a big senior season.

I said " somewhat local" on the recruitment. Still the Midwest albeit 200 miles away.

Loved the development of Raymond but he had a reputation as a very good shooter in high school. Toledo area? I recall he was frustrated with not being a starter early on but made the adjustment. Work and more work. I wonder if Huggins is a fan of his? He seemed excited when we threw the inbound pass to him at the end of that West Virginia game. I remember that in HD. I thought he was going to explode in front of our eyes.

Just checked the old Big Jimmy game log from his freshman year. This I did not know:

Farr played 22 minutes and scored 14 points in our opener against Fairly Ridiculous. He played 21 minutes and scored 2 points the rest of the season.

Jason Love is the comparison that first comes to my mind (but I never worried Jason might just jack up the occasional 3 ball, as I recall).

I give so much credit to Chris Mack and to Farr for his development over his Xavier career. I am willing to admit I was often frustrated last year by Farr’s shot selection. What I realize in hindsight is that Farr used to be a jump shooter and he thought the way he would contribute to our team was by shooting jump shots. When he and Mack realized that his contribution would come from rebounding he clearly worked tirelessly to improve that part of his game and it has made him into an incredibly valuable part of this team. Hopefully he goes down in Xavier senior history because he’s earned it.

While I enjoyed his 3 pointers going in against UC and the Ginger Midget in previous games, that aspect of his game is no longer needed.

Jason Love and Larry Sykes were similar to Big Game James. You wondered if they would ever amount to anything when the were freshman and then turned into key players on really good teams.I think he'll be playing professionally somewhere next year.

I've got to give Mack credit for doing what coaches are hired to do. Put their players in the best position to succeed. If you notice, Farr is getting a lot of his shots in front or to the left of the basket. That's perfect for a lefty. Anybody besides me see Farr getting a shot to play summer league ball in the NBA?

I'm a little surprised we've seen such huge improvement under Mack's guidance from Farr, Stainbrook, Reynolds, and lately O'Mara and a few others without Kelsey being the big man coach.

(Sarcasm font- and I'm not knocking Kelsey).

Reminds me of when Duncan would come off the bench his senior year.

Could you imagine what Kelsey could do with this team?

Let's give Mike Pegues a little credit. He's been coaching the bigs for 3 years.

Definitely deserves all the credit in the world. I remember reading up on him and watching his highlight videos coming to X. Remember, he came in with Jalen, but Jalen had to sit out. A lot of James' highlights in high school were shooting jumpers especially from the elbow. So I expected a stretch 4 when he got here. I think he wasn't sure of what his identity was for those first 2 years and was kind of stuck in the middle.

He did have a solid shootout but the rest of the season he never had confidence from not playing which I think caused him to brick a lot of his shots. He could have quit and transferred at that point but instead he got back in the weight room and concentrated on playing on the block and developing. Huge props to him and the coaching staff

We are giving him credit. The Kelsey thing is a joke (People who used to post "Our big men haven't been any good since Kelsey left" and "Mack can't coach big men". ).

The lineage of Xavier big men who have developed over the years into solid D1 talent is just amazing considering how low profile they were coming in.

I remember being in attendance for that Fairly Ridiculous game. It was the opener of the 2012 season and it was my Xavier class 40th reunion weekend. Jimmy comes in and starts nailing 3 like they we're lay ups. Everybody was in awe of his shooting ability, but that was basically all he could, or would do then. No inside game at all and a foul machine at the other end. that's why he didn't play as much.

One reason why he played 21 minutes in that game was because it was an absolute mismatch. XU scored 117 in that game and win by 42- and it could have been by 80. Jimmy has come light years since then as a player, but has always been one of the nicest and most accessible players when you meet him.

Keep on Truckin' Jimmy! Your leadership of this team is outstanding!
