View Full Version : Buick vs Lexus

I think that this deserves a thread of its own:

Is this the year that possibly a Buick beats a Lexus to the finish line? Would be pretty ironic as I am a Sean Miller fan but think that Mack is doing just fine thank you!

When Xavier beats Arizona to the Final Four (Miller still hasn't been without a ticket), it will be pretty sweet. At least Thad managed to parlay his treachery into a couple of Final Fours.

I honestly don't care about Sean Miller unless we are playing Arizona.

We would not be where we are today without Sean Miller or Thad Matta. I do not judge our current year performance relative to either of them.

Unlike YTG, I'm willing to admit I care. I love it when his team chokes in the Tournament short of the Final Four. Love it.

I found out sixth earlier than most because I have an inside connection that's big time. (Google). I can hook anybody up with my connections if you need me.

Xavier is 11-0 and ranked #6 in the country and we're actually talking about Sean Miller. This thread is already the worst.

I've never understood the vitriol directed at Sean Miller. He built on the foundation that already existed at Xavier and took the program to another level. Xavier basketball would not be where it is today without Sean Miller. He was a great coach and a great ambassador for the University.

So what is it? Is it the Buick/Lexus comment? I hated that comment as much as everyone else, but the guy was going through a whirlwind of accepting a new job, uprooting his life and moving across the country. He was put in front of a mic and said something really stupid and insulting. I'm sure he regrets saying it and would take it back if he could. I'm glad my friends and family aren't as hard on me as some X fans are on Sean Miller. I've said a few really dumb things in my day and I'd be the loneliest person in the world if I were held to the same standard. If it's not the Buick comment, then what? Do people think he had no loyalty? Can anyone honestly say that Arizona is not a better job than Xavier? Use the same example for yourself. Even if you love your current job and employer, if another prestigious company offered you the same job at more than 2x the salary, you wouldn't take it? It's amazing how sports fandom can make people throw all logic out the window. Do people really think Chris Mack is going to be at Xavier forever?

I was with you and then you veered off course and your argument lost some pizazz.

I'd hope that your friends and family, people with whom you have personal contact on a regular basis would treat you better than random fans would treat a former coach whom they likely never met in person. Otherwise you would have bigger problems than making idiotic analogies.

I'm guessing sean's family and friends are good with his word choice. But then, you know, they're not FANatics of a sports team.

And the fact that Sean Miller is not 11-0 or ranked #6 in the country. Sean made his choice, and that's fine. And I hope he never gets to the Final Four. That would be more than fine.

Or the Blackburn Review without the cussing. I do like the BR as they unequivocally refer to us, and rightfully so, as their Overlords.

What can I say? I'm prone to hyperbole! I understand familial relationships are much different than those between a fan base and sports team but it doesn't make the fan reactions any less dumb.

Again, I totally understand anyone who was royally pissed about that stupid Buick comment. Heck, I understand people who were angry just because he left. But you would think after some time had passed fans would be able to look at his contribution to the University and the program and appreciate everything he did for Xavier.

I appreciate what he did for Xavier. And I hope he gets to take a family vacation every Final Four weekend to spend that hard-earned money Arizona gave him in recognition of what he did for Xavier.

The way I remember it, the Lexux/Buick comment was not in front of a microphone, but to convince Kevin Parrom to renege on X and follow him to AZ.

Even though this was immature, I was over it long ago. Schadenfreude is for losers.

I actually think Sean has been extremely complimentary of Xavier. The Buick comment was stupid and an a-hole thing to say, but since then, especially right before our game last spring, he's said many kind things. That said, I just assume he lose every game he coaches from now until the end of time. I'm not rooting actively against him. But, I'm not actively cheering for him either.

Plus, being indignant will help us get ranked higher, or so I've heard.

At least both the Buick and Lexus agree that Mick Cronin is a whiny douche. I lost the link, but props to the Auburn fans for digging up an old thread about both Sean Miller and Chris Mack taking veiled jabs at Cronin after one of the YTG's pressers a few years ago when he was shoving his team under the bus after a loss.

Finally, something we can all agreed on - Cronin is the worst.

I can understand the animosity towards Miller. I do hope he does well but not as well as X. People typically mention he was the former coach here and the more times we're talked bout the better.

It is fun, though, to poke fun at some of the comments he made when he left. It's not really done out of animosity on my part - I guess it just goes to my odd sense of humor.

I would derive so much pleasure if X were to win a national championship before Arizona, Ohio State, Providence, and Wake Forest. It would just be RIGHT.

Also totally fair. I think most people are of your mindset when it comes to Sean. I root for him but understand that's not for everyone. I just don't get the few that seem obsessed with hating him (and other former coaches).

Whatever, we're 11-0 and #6 in the country. I guess I needed to find something to complain about since I sure as hell can't find anything wrong with this team yet.

I really have no animosity towards Sean Miller and cannot actually blame the guy for the decision he made as I am sure it was a hell of a lot more money. He really actually brought a lot of intensity/recognition to X. I was just playing with the Buick comment and I am pretty sure he regrets it. Never know what gets picked up these days with cameras/microphones and social media everywhere. Just having fun here as I pinch myself at our current success.

The comment didn't really bother me. Most comments that bother other people don't bother me. Everyone needs their safe space, I guess.
