View Full Version : Dan and Hep Cronin
I wonder if these two will be allowed back in Cintas after their shenanigans last time. Dan picked three fights that I witnessed and Hep was right behind him. The last fight Dan picked he had to be held back by a cop after the game was over. He should have been arrested that day.
I know Xavier changed their security procedures after Dan went crazy.

Emotions were running high that day on both sides. I suspect that everyone will be on their best behavior.

I'm hoping for a very loud crowd, but one that is also a little respectful. No "Fuck UC" chants from the students. Don't yell any f bombs at UC fans. In short, let's not act like UD fans.

Agree on being loud and classy, but I want to see a horrible game, I want Fox to have to switch to a different game halfway into the second half because no one can tolerate watching the beatdown any longer. I want to blow UC out.

Shouldn't Dan be down at River Downs bettin' his welfare check on the ponies? Hep is just a bitter old man. Here's to hoping these two assclowns act up again.

Every fanbase has their jerks. I went to the ND-Alabama NCG in 2013 (what a depressing waste of money), and I lost count of the number of times I had to tell unruly ND fans to shut up and show some decency. Granted, Alabama fans were infinitely worse on the whole, but there will always be a few rotten apples no matter how classy the program. Just don't let them spoil the bunch. If you hear or see inappropriate behavior from X fans, rebuke them appropriately and drown them out with a respectable display of unbridled enthusiasm.

I think that a return of the sign from the student section saying "Welcome fellow scholars" would be appropriate. I'll take a blowout win on the court and kill them with kindness on the way out.

Big time football? Hell, being a WVU fan you should hear the atrocities that come out of the mouths of people in Morgantown, and that's when we're just tailgating. Trust me, our crowd in terms of classiness, is top notch.

Bama fans are every bit as bad. I've been to a game in Morgantown and Tide fans match them in foul language and unsportsmanlike conduct. That said, in my experience, Michigan fans are the worst.

I went to Ann Arbor this year and had no problems at all. In fact, the ushers were super nice, even after the game. Also, if anything, our group, namely me , at the top of one of the X sections, may have annoyed a few of the MI fans unintentionally. Oops. What can I say? I definitely cheer loudly. :medicated:

You guys had to of liked Morgantown the city though, it's such a cool feel and atmosphere... then again I'm super biased, surprisingly after the move to the Big 12 Morgantown has been way more mellow with everyone else in the Big 12 writing letters about how great the hospitality has been. It's just when Pitt, Maryland, VT come to town that it brings out the worst.

We sat 3 rows behind the Xavier bench (1 row below the student maize section) and although they were feeble in their attempt to rattle us they were generally mild-mannered. After the game the ushers escorted us through the tunnel along with some of the Xavier parents. My biggest fear was being ratted out by a Michigan student while I poured myself a bourbon.

Let's not call a town of 25,000 a "city." The town has a neat initial feel but it wears off when you discover most of the establishments aren't worth going into. In the end, it's okay. I miss three places there, and not much else.

In fairness, my perception may suffer from sample bias. I have been to five Michigan games, all versus heated rivals - vs. ND in Ann Arbor in 2005 and in South Bend in 2004 and 2006, and vs. OSU in Columbus in 2004 and 2010. Perhaps UM fans are nastier toward their rivals. In any event, I was decked out in Notre Dame gear all 5 times (yes, even for the OSU games). I expected some hostility in Ann Arbor, but I was completely unprepared for the treatment they unleashed on visitors - rowdy fans getting 2 inches from your face and booing, a constant barrage of expletive-laden taunts (often offensive taunts about the Catholic faith of ND), drunkards throwing beer bottles at us during pregame tailgates, and more. I vowed never to return for a game in Ann Arbor. In South Bend and Columbus, the treatment was exactly the same, even when I was not ostensibly rooting for OSU in Columbus. It didn't feel as threatening, as Michigan fans were vastly outnumbered, but it was nevertheless galling given that they were visitors. Whenever I'm a visitor at another school, I try to be respectful and pleasant. It's what we've mostly come to expect from visitors in South Bend. But then again, we play so many west coast teams with pathologically laid back fan bases that, again, I may have a sample bias.

To this day only negative fan experience anywhere has been UD Arena.
I've been to nd Michigan in Ann Arbor as well but had a great time. People were very inviting. Crosstown shootout at UC not awful just some playful gloating.
They take it to another level up north. Even if Mack decides to go back I won't.

I think West Virginia wins the prize, for what it's worth. Bama can be nasty, but a high level of nastiness at WVU is the standard. My experience has been that Bama has its nuts, but at WVU it literally feels like its the entire place. When WVU used to play Pitt and Virginia Tech I don't think there was a more venomous atmosphere in college sports. Maybe not in any American sport. You're talking a soccer hooligan level of crazy. Maryland was nasty a lot of the times too, especially if it were Duke in basketball. LSU could get pretty nuts, but even there the number of people who aren't crazy outnumber those that are.
When it comes to nastiness, I don't think the Shootout comes close to some of those others. It's intense, but it's not nasty. At least not when it's compared to VA Tech v WVU, or WVU v Pitt, or Ohio State v Michigan (although my experience with that one is that it's a lot worse outside the stadium than it is inside the stadium) or Duke v Maryland.
God I miss a lot of those games....

I remember being at the 07' game where the loss to Pitt took us out of the running for the National Championship game, I don't think I've been more scared in my life, between people calling for Rich Rod and Pat McAfee's heads, and Pitt fans getting rowdy, fights breaking out everywhere, double A batteries being thrown, rocks and what not. Yeah Morgantown is awful when Pitt & VT come to town. But now with no real rivals in the Big 12, it's weirdly calm, there have been Okie State, Texas fans, etc. that all have said Morgantown is very hospitable.

And...Lost Lettermen Concurs!! Whoever they are. I was trying to find the story about how the fans at WVU used to throw urine balloons. That would actually happen, although I think they've tried to curb that. Now they just throw rocks and bottles. Even LSU thinks West Virginia is over the top, apparently. When LSU fans think you're crazy, YOU'RE BATSHIT CRAZY! This is a football list, but WVU's fans for basketball are even worse because it's a more compact quarters.
I've been to Georgia for some rivalry games and didn't think it was that bad. I was kinda surprised to see them on the list...

To be fair, I've only been a few times, and it was before they joined the B12, and it was for rivalry games. They got pretty nasty with Louisville as well. It's the craziest college sports environment I've ever been in. Bar none. And, I've been to a TON of places. But, like I said, that was when they used to play their traditional rivals. Perhaps it has calmed somewhat.
