I post rarely (obviously), but this was a bit of a shock so I had to write it. Just had ESPN on in the background with College GameDay on. Heard Jay Bilas say "Xavier", so I went back and re-watched what he said because... well, Jay Bilas... should be amusing.

The commentators were talking about teams that could win the tournament this year and paraphrasing what he said... "A team that might be a darkhorse, but really isn't a darkhorse... Xavier is the real deal. Xavier is really good. They're Final Four good. Xavier could win it all this year. They're good enough to win this thing."

Mind you he was struggling to get those words out of his mouth, like he really didn't want to say it... Ha.

I'ver never liked Bilas but not necessarily because of anything he has or hasnt said about XU, just kind of annoying and pompous in general.

I don't know if he was struggling to say nice things about Xavier, or just struggling to use words, but it was indeed a struggle. Either way it had me laughing.

I also heard Rick Pitino on the radio tonight saying we're one of the most underrated teams in the country. We got all the worms coming out of the floorboards now

I seem to recall (because it's mentioned before he opens his mouth) Bilas has a law degree, and Pitino is often in need of one, so can you be more specific? Either way, I'm sure they both check this board regularly and know they messed up!

I don't think Jay Bilas has ever really had any sort of anti-Xavier agenda. I guess it was...what....nine years ago when he said he didn't think Xavier belonged in the tournament?? I don't think it was because he disliked Xavier. I think it was simply because he didn't think we belonged. I didn't agree with him, but I also didn't think he said it because of any dislike he had for X. And....it was nine years ago. I didn't really care then, and I don't care now. He probably doesn't even remember saying it. There's no reason to think that he wouldn't praise Xavier.

I'm not saying he's anti-X, I'm just saying I think he's an arrogant jerk. He's smart and eloquent, but there's something about the guy I don't like. (And I usually like smart and eloquent.) Full disclosure, we grew up with my kids going to UNC hoops camps every summer. Much better, BTW, as UNC had gyms and Duke played a lot on black top and kids were dropping like flies in the heat!

This....and it was because Bilass was primping the 9th or 10th team in the Big East to get in. Boooooooooool sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

I think Bilas is somewhat arrogant but he does not bother me as much as he does to many in this thread. I think he does a very good job and I don't mind listening to him. I will take positive press for XU. I guess X is not going to sneak up on anyone this season.

Thanks for posting. I could only watch a few minutes of that game, but I walked away wondering if he would mention how he thinks X compares to other teams he's seen.

Remember, I don't care what they say about me, just so they spell my name right. 25 years ago if Jay Bilas had recognized Xavier in some way or other, what would we have said? As I get older I enjoy whatever praise Xavier gets because I both remember and then I look at the year and just enjoy.

I dont like Bilas because he seems like a stuck up douche and because i dont always agree with what he says during games about rules and such. But i dont think he has it out for Xavier at all, like some people here think.

Can anyone in the Big East even get Gameday anymore? Usually if Gameday comes, then the game is on ESPN and there aren't going to be any home Big East games on ESPN

Xavier would also have to play a home game on ESPN for that to happen. And that's not going to happen as long as the Big East has its TV deal with Fox.

Eh it happens in football occasionally - ND / SEC teams get home games. But those are kind of marquee matchups that usually you can't ignore.

Doubt it happens for us any time soon.

just hoping the team can tune out the noise. We can be great this year, but we're no where near a polished well oiled machine.

I'll say it...I love Jay Bilas. One of my favorite CBB announcers/analysts. I also think he plays up so much of what you guys are angry about just to troll people, and is incredibly self-aware.

I gotta go to work.

I really did hate him after the 07 year bitching about X getting in.. Would have been that much sweeter to beat OSU. But he's slowly growing on me. I actually find the morning tweets funny and I think for the most part, he calls it like it is in terms of the game. He's a pretty bright guy and I think he gives a lot better basketball insight/analysis than anyone else ESPN has. Only thing I get tired of is his whole "players should be paid" tirade.

I havent watched a whole lot of the ESPN bball guys this year so my memory could be failing me but I feel like Jason (or is it Jay now?) Williams does a pretty good job and might be one of the better guys.

I really liked J until the comment. He is very knowledgeable about many teams. But after the comment I started paying closer attention to his views and realized just how biased he was towards the ACC.
