In the late 90's ABC used to televise NCAA games, we had a couple on there. Last one of those I can think of was a Xavier-Temple game on Valentines Day that Vitale called and Mo McAfee had a big game.

ABC had one Saturday afternoon game a week all the way through 2009 during conference play, but it was regional coverage. So, I guess technically they had two or three games on, but they were all on at the same time. I think the reason they don't do it anymore is because the new contracts required all the games to go national. I guess the conferences preferred to have the games on cable and be available nationally as opposed to being on networks, but only being made available regionally. I do think one showcase national game a week on ABC would be a good idea, but I don't think they have any plans on doing that any time soon.

I think that's a pretty sharp line. But with all the pub X has been getting and the recent big wins, I think Vegas will try to see how many points they can get. Wouldn't be shocked to see X -6.5-7.5. i think Vegas is going to be betting on UC in this one. If the line is under 5, then Vegas really loves UC because they are that confident. If that line opens under 5, 80%of the public will be betting on X.

I've seen some bravado from Bluiett from time to time, whether it's talking to his defender heading down the court or demanding the ball because he can't be stopped. Now, Sumner is the quiet one who doesn't get into it.

Yeah, unfortunately Steve Logan was a guy who went off the reservation. The guys we REALLY messed with in that game though were DerMarr Johnson and Kenny Satterfield. We were in their heads big time in that game.

Our defense is strong, we're strong in the paint, we're strong on the boards, we pass well, and we are strong on the perimeter. Generally shutting down one or two strengths is difficult. To beat us they'll have to shut down four or five. They lost to a Butler team at home that isn't as good as we are, and they sweated out a decent but not great GW team. They're good. We're better.

I think that's a pretty sharp line. But with all the pub X has been getting and the recent big wins, I think Vegas will try to see how many points they can get. Wouldn't be shocked to see X -6.5-7.5. i think Vegas is going to be betting on UC in this one. If the line is under 5, then Vegas really loves UC because they are that confident. If that line opens under 5, 80%of the public will be betting on X.

I think I read that UC defense is holding teams to the lowest 2PT FG% in the country....that's impressive. Hopefully a lot of that is due to the strength of their opponents thus far. GO X!

Fraschilla: I love the Cincinnati-Xavier matchup on Saturday between two very good teams. The Bearcats and the Musketeers share great basketball traditions and the same city. Part of the reason the animosity in the Crosstown Classic is always high is because the schools sit about four miles apart. And who could forget the vicious brawl in 2011? Since then, cooler heads have prevailed and both coaches -- Cincinnati's Mick Cronin and Xavier's Chris Mack -- have worked hard to keep this great rivalry in perspective.

Dakich: Cincinnati at Xavier. These are two of the toughest teams in college hoops. I'm not sure any team has been more impressive so far than Xavier. The Musketeers can shoot and defend, but most importantly, they force you to match their level of toughness, and very few can. Cincinnati is no slouch in any of those departments, and it's a given that these players know and dislike one another, making it a must-see.

This reminds me of my first couple years of med-school when I played in IU Intramurals. This was over 17 years ago, but I if recall correctly in my med-school class and/or the class above me we had a forward who played at Gonzaga, A shooting Guard from DePaul, A center from Wabash, and a guard from Notre Dame. Also had 2 college football players (a QB and Linebacker) and handful of other college athletes. We all tended to hang out anyways, and decided to try the intramural thing. We looked like and bunch of white chumps for the most part, but we won the whole darn thing and pretty much smoked everyone. A couple years later, some of those guys had graduated and we actually ended up playing a team in the playoff that was primarily composed of dental and law students also stacked with some former college players. They had some guard from IU that completely lit us up ala Brad Redford style hitting riduculous 3's from everywhere.

I also remember when I was at X, James Posey playing intramurals at Xavier when he sat out his first year due to prop-48. He averaged something like 40-50 points per game. Pretty sure his team won....

I know it is different than the managers' game, but just the former Auburn player going up against the college kids reminds me of the situation.

It was sadly hilarious, especially since Ellis was the biggest braggart on the floor for quite a while, pounding his chest like he was in the NFL. Glad I won't have to see that putz again. HOWEVER, I watched the UC part of the press conference, and I thought he handled it very well. I disagree with with his assessment that BECAUSE X didn't press or trap, our defense had nothing to do with the turnovers, but....I thought he he was humble, direct, and said the things I'd have wanted my coach to say after such a loss. But he really gnomed it up on the floor. He may have had some media coaching but the truth comes out in-game.

I watched the same scene from the stands. Cronin just acted like such an a-hole at the end of the game and then again in his press conference.

I thought Mack wanted to take Reynolds out at the end so we didn't have a repeat of The Brawl - a "chippy" starter out on the floor who gets into it with a UC player at the end of the game.

I also like how Cronin tried to downplay this game, and X's record in the Shootout the last 10 years, in his press conference. I guess if you keep getting your ass kicked, you have to say things like that. But if Cronin really believes this game isn't that big of a deal, to that I say, "Great, keep having your teams unprepared for a game that is this intense. Yesterday, your team certainly appeared to be unprepared in the first half for the intensity of the game."

P.S. Did Cronin shake hands at the end of the game? I didn't see him in the handshake line.

It may be buried somewhere in this thread. But I'm pretty sure there was a twitter video or vine (?) thing of the few seconds when Mick gets the T and the screams at the ref.

I do think he can coach and I really do think he's his own worst enemy. He makes some pretty strong comments about his team publicly that I just don't understand. His strategy around scheduling is getting better, but for a very long stretch of time his OOC was abysmal. There's just not a whole lot that's likeable about the guy.

Cronin has been saying stupid stuff in post game press conferences for years:

"I have such a young team."

"Seton Hall would be in first place in the A-10." (And I believe he said the same the same about another team that beat UC.)

"I ripped Yancy Gates' jersey off in the locker room."

"We let a guy who can only go to his right score 29 points." - when asked about how well Tu Holloway played.

And there are many more.

That said, you can't deny that he turned around the UC program and he's done a decent job there. I think he's been to the NCAA's about 5-6 years in a row. He's just a step or two behind Xavier, and I think that bothers him.
