View Full Version : Who do we root for? Butler or UC?

Butler plays UC tonight at 7 EST on CBS Sports Network.
I have no idea who to root for. I really dislike both teams and love watching each of them lose.
On one hand, I would love to see two top 15 teams playing in the Shootout (provided no losses by either team prior) on Dec 12. On the other hand, we play Butler twice and I want the BE to win every game in the non-con.
So, I ask you, who the F do I root for tonight?

Choice C is really the best. Some sort of rogue asteroid hitting the arena solves all kinds of problems. Since that seems unlikely - I mean if it didn't happen during the Duke/UK game, it's unlikely to happen during the UC/Butler game - then we cheer as hard as possible against the criminals in clifton.
We need a Junior Musketeer board for posts like this.

I just don't hate Butler like I hate UC and Dayton. I actually think they have a nice little program.

I would agree with the Go Bearcats mentality against UD for two reasons. One, we typically don't play UD so a win for UC is better for X. Also, I want the only win that UD has had in Cincinnati since the Carter Administration to be against UK. (which I find somewhat funny)

We play UC annually. We don't play ud.
Therefore in an average year, for the sake of rpi and junk I'd "cheer" for UC ("cheer" isn't an appropriate term).
This year since we "played" ud (once again, "played" isn't an appropriate term, "decimated" is probably a better description) I probably wouldn't pay any attention to the matchup.

Bite me. I'm simply trying to rank my hatred and weight out the implications of the outcomes.
In fact, I could make the argument that I hate UC more than Butler so I actually want Butler to win tonight so that when XU beats them in the Crosstown it is even that much sweeter and hurts UC and their fans even more.

I get your point on this, and I'm more torn than others. 2 undefeated teams, that are Top 15, in a packed white out at Cintas, while on National Fox is about as good as it could get. And for whatever reason might attract more viewers to Fox National and help X with all the attention.
But I think there's still a good chance UC would be ranked next Saturday with a loss tonight. And as previously mentioned, this is a critical year for the Big East to take the next step and establish themselves. Need every win the conference can get to help with that. Go with Butler

My thought is you are truly a mid major for starting a new thread on a topic we've been discussing all day. Good work. I'll merge them when I'm home. Sigh.
I kind of agree with this. Well, not the starting the second thread part.
We're in the Big East, and on top of that we play several good OOC games. We've won four OOC games away from home, and two of them were against likely tournament teams. We don't need nearly as much help from other teams as we used to. Root for whoever you hate the least. The amount of help we get from the outcome is insignificant. We play them both. If Butler beats UC, and we beat UC but split with Butler, it really isn't any better than UC beating Butler, us beating UC, and then splitting with Butler. In fact, I think the latter scenario actually lands us ahead of Butler on its face value.
We'll be fine either way. it's virtually inconsequential. The real question is who do you hate more?

Can anyone remember what the score was when Cronin lost his shit? I remember thinking that it could bite him in the arse at the time, and it most definitely did. I'm floored that he didn't accept any responsibility for going ape shit at the worst possible time in the game. Timing is everything when it comes to a coach getting a T. The WORST possible time would be when your team has seized control of the game and is pulling away from a team with equal talent. What buffoon.

The officials were horrible in the UC game, but Mick's outburst seemed to bring even more fouls called than before. Butler was worn out and not as deep as UC, the parade to the free throw line slowed the game down and played right into Butler's hands. It was another Mick temper tantrum that did nothing but hurt his own team. It's one thing to be down by 7 and jump up and down on the sidelines like a crazy monkey, but UC had the lead.
I don't know how the game would have turned out absent the outburst by Cronin, but it sure seemed to move momentum into Butler's favor.

Agreed on all points. I can see a coach purposefully get a T when they are down, because sometimes a team does respond and play with more energy. Bad call or not (and it was a bad call), you cannot get a T there. Especially since you know Dunham is gonna shoot the free throws, so you are giving them 2 free points because he's not gonna miss.
gladdenguy
12-03-2015, 11:07 AM
I can understand getting a technical when you're down to fire up your team. As a coach up 7 in a big game at home.....you don't get a technical.
Every sUCks fan is bitching about the refs today. That is why I hate sUCks. Their fans are brutal. Lucky for them they don't have to play another good team back to back and can take their frustrations out on Morgan St. this weekend.

I missed that game, but I caught the highlights. Chrabacz fouled out with like 6mins left. Holtman could have earned a T if he wanted one. That guts Butler's ability to rebound. That said, Jones' pushoff on Ellis at the end could have easily been called a foul. The way they call things today, I am surprised they didn't call the shove.

I feel like he says that because it isnt really a skill he can teach, so if he makes it something he cant teach then he can be blamed for it not being done. Just more avoiding any responsibility whatsoever. Did any reporter ask him about the T at all? How does he not include that in any responsibility at all for the loss?

5 home games and not a single sell out despite being a top 25 team?
It'll be nice for the UC players to know what a sold out crowd looks like next weekend.
X has upped their enrollment since my time there, but UC used to graduate 10 alum for everyone 1 X put out. And UC alum are more likely to be local/stay local...X now has over 50% of it's class from outside Ohio.

I had to to out to the store last night and I had WLW on. The YTG Coach's Show was on...yes it really is called that..
And a Caller called in and asked the jaundiced Leprechaun about the tech. Sippin' Mick's answer, I swear this is true, was that he got it for taking his glasses off! That was all. Taking his glasses off because it was an "unusual response" as he was told by Mike Roberts. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
I seem to remember that he was a bit more animated than just a removal of the glasses. Maybe he was kidding and thought he was being cleverly funny, but no one laughed in the audience and Hoard didn't laugh either.
What an absolute twit.
Well this is fascinating because after the game he had no idea why it had been called. Now he has a magical "removing glasses" explanation? Coaches remove jackets all the time in far more demonstrative actions and don't get T'd. Does he not know that the post game press conferences are actually archived? http://www.gobearcats.com/collegesportslive/?media=516121 around the 7:30 mark. He's a real dick to the guy who asks the question.
He was also asked in the post-game about how you teach "toughness" and he basically said you just have to have it. Or recruit it. Or something. He's a master at avoiding any blame. http://www.gobearcats.com/collegesportslive/?media=516121 around the five minute mark.

so..... white fans are dumb fans in your mind? Just trying to understand what you are saying here.
1) Yes
2) It's a joke.
White people love talking about "grittiness" and "effort" and "class" and "toughness" and all that bullshit.

I think pretty much all fans are dumb.
I think pretty much all coaches are dumb too.
And the players....don't even get me started on them!

Since I'm one of those dumb white fans, can you explain to me what non-bullshit black fans like to talk about? I'd love to step my game up.

Dude, again it was a joke. I'm white. It's ok to make fun of white people. #AllLivesMatter
