The biggest difference this year is how well Farr and O'Mara are playing. They just look great out there and not awkward. You have four 6'9-6'10 guys on this team that can play is insane. No wonder they are out rebounding teams by 15. Once London and Gates get going who, knows how far this team can go. UC will be a huge test for this team. I hope they can keep this up till then and let their guard down.

Did it ever really leave? Some of us have kept it alive since that fateful day in December. (Points to own signature line.)

We got gangstas in that locker room!

Reynolds, Farr, and Remy were all zipping after the Michigan game. It is back, in fact, it never left. We just have that winning attitude back this year where we expect to win every game. I couldn't be happier.

Yes! I've been rewatching the game and when Myles drains a 24 foot bomb in Scoochie's face to put X up 60-39, he gives the zip 'em up motion as he backpedals down the court!! Freakin love it!

They're not going to do it after every game, but I can definitely be on board for going that route after blasting Dayton.

Blasting Dayton (or UC) is special, but still.... ok, whatever. Just not a huge fan. I'd like to be above that level. And have the constant battle of dealing with how to treat them after a beat down!

It's classier if we say veni, vidi, vici.

Also, Latin is gangsta.

Latin may be classier, but with Bill Murray now on board, maybe "We came, we saw, we kicked their ass" is more appropriate.

I know the phrase and gesture are wrong, but sometimes I don't want to be right. To quote 9-year-old Latarian Milton, sometimes "it's fun to do bad things." This is one of those bad things I'll enjoy.

You can be sure there will be discussions during Shootout Week on what to do and what not to do during and after the game. It won't be an issue during the Western Kentucky and Wright State games.

I agree! Having fun should be priority 1 at all levels of sport. It's a game. No one is curing cancer or advancing on a beachhead. Everyone seems to take sports so seriously anymore. It's ruining sports in general

If the guys want to celebrate an arse-whoopin like they gave dayton with a gesture and it gets them fired up and they're having fun, then have at it. It hurts exactly no one.

I agree, but egos be fragile at this level. And college guys do stupid things when they are put in their place. Look back at the game vs. UC. Ego and bravado took charge, and all hell broke lose. I'm not saying that that's going to happen everytime, but it's been my experience that it can be taken too far.

Until then, though, zip those bastards right on up! I love the attitude and toughness this team displays and it's been contagious. You don't keep out-toughing everyone without it being infectious to the whole team. Our bench guys come in and outwork the other team. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

You can have fun without having to show up your opponent, can't you?

Some of the longest term friends I have are people I competed against while in HS and at Xavier. Some I beat, some I lost to. But we didn't show anything but respect for each other before, during, and after our competitions. I had a lot of fun, was able to travel all over the country, and even represent my country against competitors from other countries. Trash talking was never a part of it, and we don't need it now. Have fun! Be excited! Cheer on your teammates! Acknowledge the crowd! But you don't have to be disrespectful to your competition to do those things! The best "trash talking" is to barely acknowledge the competition....shake their hand, say good effort, and then ignore them while you celebrate with the team and crowd. Like they don't even matter. Later, when you see them around town or are asked about them in the press, be friendly, be complementary, and be respectful. There where several times in my "career" where people I had competed against at one time, later became teammates or people I worked with/for. Treating them like an A**hat when I first met them would have caused problems later, no? And it would not have ME any better! So why do it? Confidence is one thing...arrogance is another.

Macura and Reynolds don't come close to Lyons and Tu when it comes to talking up and down the floor. At least in my opinion.

I think they come very close if not equal or more but I think Titan makes a good point on the subtlety of it. Macura gets into a guy and almost whispers but its been caught quite a few times on camera and Jalen does the same with but a little more obvious.

I think most of our views are skewed a little on Tu and Lyons too because we have the crosstown shootout game seared in our mind where it was so intense and they were literally barking up and down the court the whole game. That was not the norm but I think it is where our memory reverts back to.

The more I think of it, it is my opinion that JP talks more than anyone I think he just isnt on the court as much yet to this point in his career.

Ah, yes. The fragile male ego. So delicate. So easily bruised.

It's funny, but I think girls can be far nastier when playing sports than boys and it hardly ever gets talked about. Why? Because our answer to trash talk is rarely to hit someone. My point being that boys need to learn how to physically control themselves even when their fragile ego is under attack. Neither Tu's nor Mark's verbage was responsible for the criminal activity in which UC engaged that day. Had UC been winning, they wouldn't have been in such a delicate state.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I think it's a different kind of trash talk though. I absolutely loved TU and Mark, but those guys were on a different level of aggression. Jalen might flex and scream after a dunk. But I can vividly remember Mark giving dudes a death stare after he hit a big shot. Hard to put a finger on it, but that always seemed way more intense then what the team does now.

If they want to talk trash and it gets them to win games, then I'm all for it as long as a line is not crossed. Jordan was the biggest trash talker there ever was, and he was known on the court as a fierce competitor and a guy who wanted to win at all costs, not as an asshat. I'll take that....I don't know because I didn't hear what Tu and Lyons said up and down the court, but maybe they made it more personal than what was going on the court? I don't know. I think as long as the trash talking is about what is going on the court, and it doesn't get too personal, all is fair.

One difference also is the maturation of Chris Mack as a coach. He's been good about pulling Reynolds when he starts to get out of control (the Michigan game for instance).

The michigan game isn't even a good example of that. He was getting subbed out well before Reynolds started with the flexing and talking at that point. The subs had been waiting for a couple minutes.

Maybe it's not but I think Mack has handled Reynolds well this year. He lets him do his thing but keeps in check when needed (yelling at student section from bench Mack just came and said not to let them get in his head).

Good point.

The biggest people at fault the day of the brawl were Mack and any XU administration that let those players talk after the game. Also probably on Mack some for not recognizing, as you alluded to, that it was getting really heated and the game was over and to get the guys out.

I've heard tell that Macura is an epic trash talker. He's drawn a fair share of off-the-ball frustration fouls already this year where guys have looked to sneak an elbow or a shoulder in on him when they think the ref isn't looking.

I think my 4 year old's day care teachers need to visit UC and introduce them to "The Buddy System". You pick out the Buddy that represents your feelings and talk about it. "I picked the frustrated Buddy because Tu was saying not nice things and running up the score."
