View Full Version : Why Are Games On 550 Not 700?

This may have been addressed at one time on the board so I may have missed it. Why is it that our games are on 550 now? I know that when the Bengals play or UC plays we get bumped. But the last two games UC nor the Bengals were playing yet we were on 550.

UC football had a game at South Florida on Friday night - you would have been treated to a royal ass-kicking if you listened to that one. I can't explain the 55KRC assignment for last night.

I wondered the same thing, but in the end, with iHeartRadio, it doesn't matter too much anymore.

I like the games on WLW because I can pick them up on the car radio here in South Carolina at night.
Can't do that with WKRC.

But, on the school's web site, 55 has all the games this year. So there must have been a change.

If your car has Bluetooth, stream the games on the IHeartRadio app on your smartphone.

Turned on 700 WLW at half of X game to see what Joe and Byron were saying and I was greeted with this "And if you're just joining us...and this is unfortuantely not a joke...the score is University of South Florida Bulls 51 Your Cincinnati Bearcats - 3...in football"

I thoroughly enjoyed the meltdown on bearcat banter later in the weekend as well.

Paul, download the IHeartRadio app to your *phone. Youll be able to listen to every game that way. If you have a bluetooth speaker, sync it to your phone for best audio. *This will force you to finally get a smart phone! HA

Still not as fun as the day that Dan Hoard was seething after UC lost to a winless DePaul team in the old Big East tournament. That's not even mentioning the ensuing Lance Goss meltdown afterwards.

DePaul wasn't winless. Just winless in the Big East. They'd won something like 4 games overall. Give them their proper credit!

They actually won 8, GoMuskies: (http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/depaul/2009-schedule.html)

Shame on Saint Louis.

You remembered! But I do appreciate all the technical advice; obviously my age is showing.

My audio file of that Lance Goss sports talk went with an old laptop. Shame, I used to haul it out when I needed a laugh. You are talking about the one where he accused them of throwing the game for Vegas and that they should revoke all their scholarships.

One of the great days in broadcast history. Angry Dan Hoard was especially crusty that day.

I think they have the BIG number phones available now and you can combine your Life Alert button on them.

Paul thought that Bluetooth was what you got when you ate a Blackberry.

How silly! Everyone knows that's from Blueberries!

Yes.

XavierHoops is also initiating a new service for Premium Members. You will be able to call X-Band'01 and he will give you the play-by-play of the game. During timeouts, he will provide wistful anecdotes from the early days of the internet for Xavier fandom.

Well, that sure beats driving the car around looking for that one spot where 1360 WSAI would come in the best so you could hear Red Pitcher's voice....

And if you know who Red Pitcher is, then you are a true long term Xavier fan. How far we have come.

I might actually pay for that. Would definitely be interesting at least once.

Problem is that XBand would be commentating musically through his trumpet.....and you'd have to decipher the words through the notes.

So, was the question ever answered around why all games on 550, not the 700/550 split based on preference to our liitle brother across town?

coasterville95
11-25-2015, 12:51 PM
Might it be for just that reason. No need to discern which channel, it's always 550?

With radio streaming online, over the air signal strength isn't as important as net footprint.

I want to initiate a petition to change X-Band's screen name to 'Cyclo.....as in Cyclopedia. He's a fountain of useful info, and is seldom in error.

Tomorrow's game is listed on 700 WLW:

Xavier Pregame Notes (http://www.goxavier.com/news/2015/11/24/MBB_1124155644.aspx)

Sounds like Xavier is taking a backseat to UC athletics and the Bengals radio shows on WLW.

Interesting. If you go to their full season schedule it still shows 55WKRC, as it does for every game.

Miles Davis and Coltrane would take acid and try to play their trips. I'd pay for that if it's an option.
