View Full Version : Trevon Bluett is MAN
Would never have expected to see 36 minutes and 9 rebounds in his stat line. That was really a step up game for him. If he can avoid putting pounds back on (ghost of Matt Stainbrook) he's going to be a beast.
Seemed headier all over the court, gets the game. A few rushed shots, but hits the must makes.

Completely agree. Even on a team with 7 players who can give you double digits any given night its nice to have a go to scorer when you need a basket. Bluiett has seemed to want that role this year. Love the way hes playing.

I think what's scary is that this team hasn't really shot it well yet from 3. There will be a game soon where they'll shoot 50% + and make 8-10

They shot 43% in the Michigan game. I consider that shooting it well from 3. If X shot that well all season they will be great.

Trevon is a baller.
My son goes to Walnut and he said right after last season he would see Trevon running around the track at Walnut Hills High School. Said he looked determined and working hard.
When I heard about the weight loss and his conditioning improvement I was not surprised. It is inspiring that after a successful Freshman year he worked so hard to make put himself in position to make his soph year count. I do not expect a sophomore slump from Trevon.
The future is bright for Trevon. I would like to see him break the Xavier record for the player who played in the most NCAA wins.
Trevon Bluett has the wholesale approval and endorsement of the House of Snipe.

Love Trevon. He gets a green light. Could join DWest, Chalmers, Derek Strong, and Tu for my top 5 favorites of all time.
I loved his toughness after JP followed his shot and stole it from Irvin, dished to Trevon, Trevon missed a short shot, then got a tough rebound and got to the line. Trevon should gain a ton of confidence during this non conference slate.

He is great, and may be our leading scorer, but I don't think ''by far''. This team may have our most balanced scoring ever and that will be a huge plus. If someone is injured or has a bad night, there will be 6 or 7 guys to pick them up.

This team has 7 guys who are a legit threat to score 15+ on ANY given night. I know most (none?) will average that much, BUT opposing coaches have to worry about 7 realistic scorers every night.....and that doesn't include Austin who probably will have one 15+ scoring game this year (at least several double digit nights). Bluiett is likely the most consistent of that group and he is definitely a baller!
On a side note, was at a bar with some friends watching the Mich game and someone asked me to name my favorite PG from X. I'm a big Lavender fan....and, of course, Tu is the best since I started school in '87 BUT I mentioned Kimbrough as one of my favs. I went back and looked at the '87-'88 stats. INSANE! We had 5 guys average double figures and ONE of them scored 25+ a night (Larkin). TWO others were at 15+ a game (Hill and Kimbrough). Derek Strong and JD Barnett had 10 a piece. That is 75 points a night from FIVE guys. ridiculous.

This is definitely our most balanced team since the 07-08 team(my favorite of all time) where we had 6 guys average between 9.5 and 12.5 ppg along with Love averaging 6 and 6. Those 7 could come up big every night. The crazy thing is this year's team could be that and even more. Very excited to see how the season plays out in terms of balanced scoring.

I may be delirious, but that team seemed to have a lot of 9-14 point guys, where this team has a bunch of guys who could go for 25 on any given night. It just feels different.

I get what you're saying. But I don't think Farr will ever be a scoring threat. He's hit 15 twice in his career and that's a career high.
He's at his absolute best when he is not looking for his shot and is a rebounding machine. He seems to be buying into that role nicely.

It is. I'm just saying we probably have a lot of 9-14 ppg guys this year again but each of them with much higher upsides. That 07-08 team had guys who would get there points every game, whereas this team we may have one guy take over one night, and someone else another night. I think when it's all said and done we'll have very balanced stats though.

Fair point....but if he keeps rebounding like this (especially offensively) he is a scoring threat on any night. Not like you have to game plan for his offensive moves, but I'd be willing to wager he tops that current career high 2-3 times this year. On a night where Jalen gets into foul trouble and he gets minutes--and therefore rebounds--he will score.

6 of those 7 hit double figures tonight. Macura was the one who ended up with the off night and only two points. I am hoping we see 7 guys averaging 10+ at some point this season. It's a long shot, but it just might happen.

As of now, Reynolds, Farr, Bluiett, Macura, Sumner, and Myles are all averaging 10+ with Remy at 8.5.
Don't see this sustaining though. Will probably see Macura's and Farr's ppg drop to the 8-9 range and Bluiett's stay higher with a tick up for Reynolds and Myles. Would love to see 4 guys at 10+ and 3 more with 7+ throughout the season. Balanced scoring is a blast.

If people remember his sophomore campaign, he already had a lot of those post moves, particularly the lefty hook shot, but he just wasn't really asked to utilize them much since then because he was sharing the post with both Stainbrook and Reynolds.
Thought was assumed: Farr be Man long time.
His shooting has fallen off, but 13 boards last night, while Farr and Reynolds were floundering, is manly.

Here are some of the highlights about Tre 2 weeks ago:
"You would think he would be improving as a junior but he's getting worse."
"Maybe I'm missing his stellar Big East play. He's a decent jump shooter at times and can rebound if not in traffic."
"I'm worried The Big East is just too athletic for Bliuett."
"He's slow. Can't get low and defend. Can't go by people. Can't go over anybody. When he's not making his little three point set shot, the rest of his game suffers. He starts out killing weak non conference teams though and everybody loses their minds over him."
"This is The Big East, not the SEC. This league is loaded with big, strong athletes. If Tre proves me wrong, I'll buy both y'all a beer(or a soda) when I make my once a year trip to Cintas."

Oh, the irony of calling other people insecure in this instance. Nothing indicates insecurity more easily than someone refusing to acknowledge that they were wrong when it's obvious that they were wrong. That's basically the only reason people keep bring this up and laughing about it; a man with a bruised ego can't make a concession.
Using as evidence a game where Trevon was seriously hobbled is also just embarrassing.
