Back in the day, when we worked the scorers table at the Gardens with paper and pencil, it took a while to generate The Box after the game and run it off on ditto graph. The muddy parking lot was pretty empty by then, so it was an easy drive to Sorrentos.

There was always a good Xavier crowd there after a game. Willie DeLuca would amuse us by balancing things on his nose, the box score was dissected, and many a delicious greasy sausage sandwich was washed down.

A good friend was the "banker" for a high stakes NCAA BBALL TOURNEY that sold each of the 64 teams to the highest bid in the "back room." He walked out with a big bundle of cash each year.

I hosted a party there just two weeks ago, and our 50+ diners and drinkers were about 75% of the evenings attendance, so it doesn't surprise me that it's closing.

Fond memories.

Sorrento's was the first place I took my dad when he came to visit me in Cincinnati after I moved here back in the 80's. He loved it, as did I. I will be sad to see it close, but I won't be surprised. It was never the same after Willie passed, and I rarely go there now.

I don't know if you saw this Emp, but there was an article about Sorrento's in the Cincy Enquirer on Saturday. If you didn't know, it is ironic and fitting thread to start today. I used to love that place, especially on my way to or from a Xavier game at the Gardens.

I didn't go there much, but it always sucks to see an icon go.

We're very lucky BJ kept this from happening to Dana's. Thanks guy.

That does suck. I went there after several St X basketball games last season w/ other players parents and we did our best to give them some business. I do recall that I brought a somewhat large group (15-20 people) in there a couple of years ago and they upset that we didn't call ahead and warn them. The place was half empty and I thought to myself this is a restaurant, you should be prepared for stuff like this.

Nevertheless, maybe it can be resurrected.

Many fond memories of willie's place. Willie was the Norwood pool security guard when he was younger when my dad was the pool manager and i heard many stories of willie showing up after the pool closing with some beer and a pizza from momma DeLuca. Sad to see it closing, but like alot of others, i can't think of a single time i've been there since willie passed.

Have not been there in years but always enjoyed it, not many places like it anymore and that is a shame.
