The Men's soccer team knocked off unbeaten and top ranked Creighton, scoring the game-winning goal with only a minute and a half to go!

That's a win over the #1 and #2 teams on the road, you have to absolutely love it, especially in a year that the Big East is down. Doing very well for tournament hopes and seedings!

Wow! I saw in the game story that Xavier is 6-2-1 vs. Top 10 under Coach Fleming. That is amazing! Wins at #1 Creighton and #2 Notre Dame.

Brilliant performance. Can't be more excited. Congrats to our soccer team for an outstanding win on the road vs a #1 team.

Both on weeknights, too.

Xavier is now in line for the #3 seed in the Big East tournament - six teams get invited.

That's a helluva trump card for a team that's on the fence for making the NCAAs.

I can't imagine they're on the fence after last night.

Very impressive. As Fleming stated this team had to face itself after the 2 losses at home earlier in the season; they had to figure out which team they wanted to be. The team that loses at home to Lipscomb or the team that the beats the #1 team in the country on the road.

Lipscomb was a road loss; it was Virginia Tech who beat X at home earlier this season.

10-4-1, they still have work to do. If they can win out against Butler and Seton Hall that should put them in the tournament. Butler is a big one, they can play. Seton Hall is the BE bottom feeder.

I think win out and win one in the BE tournament and they should be ok.

Creighton and Georgetown will probably get byes in the tournament; if Xavier can get a 1st-round win and beat either of those 2 teams, then they're definitely in.

My bad, that is what I meant. They were odd back to back losses.

It's soccer. One bad bounce and you can lose. Soccer is weird that way. You can outshoot the opponent 50 to 2, but if they get lucky just once, you lose 1-0.

Xavier is 7-1-1 with Dallas Jaye in goal(3-3 when he is out). When he misses games due to national team commitments with Guam is when the Muskies seem to have issues. Idk if that means the backup goalie lets in goals he shouldn't or if the communication with Jaye and the backline is that much better.

It's a head scratcher for sure because Vince Shaw is a helluva keeper. It could be a communication factor, or it could be bad luck. I'm not really sure what to put it at. Jaye was a great transfer for the program though, he's very composed back there.

A good example is the difference between Guzan and Howard. Both can make amazing saves, but Howard just knows how to orchestrate a defense. Jaye should absolutely be back there the rest of the year. I will have to check on Guam's national team games.

Edit: Looks like the Nov. 12th and 17th. Bummer, would be during the BE tourney.

Were Creighton and Notre Dame ranked #1 and #2 in the nation, or the conference?

In the country. ND is in the ACC.

Somehow this team gave up 3 goals to Lipscomb in the first 15 minutes and lost then lost to Va Tech. Weird.

But they seem to shake off the doldrums when they entered league play.

Whip SHU 3-0. Guaranteed 3rd or 4th seed in BE tournament.

The bigger issue at this point is continued winning. I think for NCAA tourney purposes a win at Butler would help immensely. One win in the BE tournament would then lock it up in my opinion.

Bad loss last night at Butler, but they drew DePaul at home in the tournament. I think their hopes of a first round NCAA bye is out the window.

It was a rainy night at the match last night. X came frustratingly close in the first half several times. Butler put 2 goals in the net in the last 25 minutes. It was a close game before that.

What does Xavier have to do to even get in the tournament at this point? I mean are we win if we lost to Depaul? I think we would be cutting it pretty damn close.

It would be close, but I think the quality wins would over take the quality losses, let's just hope they get some momentum, beat DePaul, beat Georgetown somehow, and either Butler/Creighton and get a first round bye. Optimism guys!!!

Well, I think the DePaul win puts them solid in the field. I think they have to win out to get a top 16 bye and that would be close. I think there are something like 16 first round byes right?

RPI as of this morning is 45. That's very borderline to get in the tournament.

Beating Notre Dame and Creighton are definitely positives (as is the team's 6-2-1 record away from home), but some of the losses (Providence #61, Virginia Tech #105 and at #176 Lipscomb) will hurt. Lipscomb is in the bottom 50 of the RPI, since there are only 206 programs with men's soccer.

I'd feel a lot better about their chances if they can win at Georgetown on Thursday in the Big East semis.

Yup, top 16 seeds get a bye. I think we beat Georgetown, and we would get another home game in the NCAA tournament.
