I used to despise him. I always held him responsible for the Big East not taking Xavier along with Marquette back when that expansion episode occurred. Back then, he kept crying "foul" when John Swofford popped his BE football conference by picking off Miami, BC, V-Tech, etc. He fancied himself as taking the high road by ONLY RAIDING A SINGLE CONFERENCE - that was why DePaul went off with Marquette to fill out the hoops side of the expanded Big East. Worse yet - for Xavier - Linda Bruno, an absolute, abject horror of an administrator, was a protege of his, so he didn't want to damage her A10 by taking its flagship, even though we would have jumped in less than two seconds. Prior to the announcement for Marquette and DePaul, much of the national press was convinced - and wrote about - the Big East most likely taking Marquette and Xavier.
At any rate, I now change my tune about him, because here comes a powerful, accomplished guy who can only make the Big East become stronger through Providence, in particular and at the conference level in general.
