Kokrak had a splendid finish today at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, MS - shot an 8-under par round to finish in a tie for 12th. The only problem here is that it won't be as many points in the FedEx Cup rankings as usual since this was an undercard event to the WGC tournament that was played in China this weekend.

In the PGA Tour's final stop of the Fall season in Sea Island, GA, both Davis Love III and his sun Dru Love carded an even par 70. I'm sure there have been a few father-son duos who have played in the same event, but I'm pretty sure they've never had the same score in a round.

Nantz really pissed me off this weekend.
I believe John Cook and Jack Nicklaus were the only two-time winners of the Ohio Amateur other than Jason - Nantz said it was Cook and Palmer yesterday. I find it hard to believe that someone from Latrobe, PA could play in the Ohio Amateur.
Otherwise, he's quick to cite other player's alma maters, but he can't seem to bring himself to mention Xavier and Jason. If I missed it, so be it. It hasn't ruined my weekend, but a little fair play in some alumni pub would be nice.

Damn man. It is such a tight tolerance to win.
When he missed that shortie on 12 for the birdie, I cringed because that was a huge opportunity missed. You can never have enough cushion out there.
Then, he tried to load up big on the tee shot on 17, got a bit too quick and snap hooked it. Then he had to scramble his ass off to save par. Watson wasn't going to NOT birdie that hole.
All in all though, despite a couple of bobbles out there, Jason will learn from it. He's closer than ever. In the meantime, he's out there, doing what he wants to do and making a great living at it. Getting that win though opens up the Masters and Tournament of Champions plus all kinds of promotional and endorsement benefits. He just has to keep cracking at it. The decade when a player is in his 30's is usually the most productive as far as wins on the Tour and Jason is just getting there.
He's building a good career. Just keep on keeping on.

He missed a couple of short putts but made 2 bombs so I figured it all evened out in the end. He hit 3 great putts on the last 3 holes and unfortunately didn't get 1 bobble to the right on 18. You cannot afford to make bogeys in the final round if you expect to win...and Jason's made 3 today.
Too many guys can go low and bogeys are unforgiveable if there is an expectation of hoisting a trophy.
Jason can get birdies on every par 5 he plays, but he has to stop the mistakes.

A bit of a disappointing day (and a very expensive double on the 18th), but T6 is still pretty fantastic. Jason is having his best season yet and cementing his status on the Tour.
After the Masters, that's my favorite tournament of the year. I had some of the best times on my life on the Harbour Town course. Sometimes I was even golfing.

This is about the halfway point of the season; pretty nice for Jason to be in the Top 30 in FedEx Cup points.
What's also gone unnoticed on here is that another local guy (St. X grad Jim Herman) also won the Shell Houston Open a couple of weeks ago and is also on pace for the Top 30 in FedEx Cup points as well.

Yeah, but Herman is a SucKS Borecat. The hell with him.
Jason made $200,000 yesterday even with the bad 18th. Probably cost himself $125,000 with that double. He was in the middle of the fairway on his drive too with only a 7 iron in. Just a bad series of shots. It happens even to the pros.

But it's clear he's no pretender and definitely belongs, so he just needs to keep plugging away and it'll come.

He's probably OK for this year's open.
There was a lot to think about. McGirt has played in only one major — the 2012 PGA Championship — in his 12 years as a pro. The original plan was to get some sleep and tee it up Monday morning in U.S. Open qualifying. McGirt is 36 and has never played in a U.S. Open.
Now he will.
His victory moved him from No. 102 to No. 44 in the world ranking, assuring that he will be among the top 60 after next week and get into the U.S. Open.

The 16th hole, par 3 on Friday really hurt Jason, with a double.
On 17, Jaime Lovermark drove his tee into the woods on the left. His provisional was dead center in the fairway. However some older lady's voiced loudly that they saw the point of entry, and Lovemark had to drop far to the left of the the fairway. He wasn't a happy camper.
Jason began to swing, and Lovemark threw a club loudly into the bad in frustration. Jason, in mid-swing, hearing the 'clink', jolted his head allmost 180 degrees to stare at Lovemark. He actually hit the ball, in mid head turn, to give Lovemark a look, which lasted a good 5+ seconds.
It was an unfortunate time since Jaosn needed a birdie to even entertain making the cut, and his approach landed on the side of the hill next to the green...3 feet away from Lovemark's eventual approach.

Kokrak's teeing off at 12:52 with a Swede and however TBD ends up being.
What Kokrak should do is go straight to the head pro and ask him for the name of the best caddy he has. Then you hire that guy to carry your bag. Some local knowledge could do wonders for him at a course like Oakmont.

Ah, yes: US Open Week. Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, PA.
A place I know a little too well as a result of my former in-laws and a former boss.
A few tidbits that you may or may not know about this place:
1. Oakmont Country Club has hosted more combined USGA and PGA championships than any other course in the U.S:
- 8 United States Opens.
- 5 U.S. Amateurs (a member of my club - Steve Melnyk; Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville - won there in 1969).
- 3 PGA Championships.
- 2 U.S. Women's Opens.
2. Oakmont remains perhaps the most difficult course in North America:
- It is known for its 210 bunkers, including the "Church Pews" which are located between holes 3 and 4.
- It does not have one ounce of standing water on it; there are no water hazards at Oakmont.
- The membership plays the greens faster than the championships play them (you have to experience these greens to believe it).
- It starts you out in hell on 1 and 10, with both Par 4's sloping away from your approach shots; just dastardly.
- #8 will be a Par 3 from hell just for its length alone; look for that hole to exceed 250 yards for all four rounds.
- #9 is truly unique, as its putting surface shares space with the practice green just off the front porch of the clubhouse.
- #18 is absolutely one of the most gorgeous golf holes around, and it is hellish to finish on.
3. Oakmont is on the National Historic Register:
- Founded in 1903 by a golfing sadist - he wanted a hard track.
- Originally a links course, then they added trees, then they started removing trees.
- They went batshit crazy in 2007, removing over 5,000 trees in an effort to take it back to its original "look."
- It was fun, watching the membership debate that move.
- After playing #1, you literally cross the PA Turnpike to play #'s 2 through 8.
- Oakmont had to widen that people bridge in order to stay in the US Open rotation due to foot traffic demands.
I noticed that rain is in the Pittsburgh forecast for Thursday and Friday, at least at this point, but it also is projected to be very hot there this week. Either way, I'm not expecting the winning score to make it into red figures.
The place wreaks of tradition - the men's locker room still isn't air conditioned, so you get to experience it essentially as the founders did when they rolled up in their horse drawn carriages. The golf course has the capacity to bring you to your knees, especially if you lack faith or confidence in your putting skills.
Let the mayhem begin on Thursday, and may our Xavier friends find their way to the weekend.

"Our officials reviewed the video of Dustin on the fifth green and determined that based on the weight of the evidence, it was more likely than not that Dustin caused his ball to move. Dustin's putter contacted the ground at the side of the ball, and almost immediately after, the ball moved."
Really? He grounded the club to the side and the ball rolled backwards after a few seconds. Maybe if the greens hadn't been cut so close and rolled each night, a ball at rest wouldn't move.

Henrik Stenson got a 63 of his own, and he himself narrowly missed a shot at a pair of records. As it is, here are the ones he tied:
-20 (tied for best score in a major)
63 (final round score - tied Johnny Miller's final round at the US Open)
And it's not like Mickelson choked either; he and especially Stenson were on another planet compared to the rest of the field. Lefty was 3 strokes back of Stenson and finished with a 65, but he was a whopping 11 strokes ahead of 3rd-place finisher JB Holmes.

Fittingly capped off on the 18th green. Wow.... Sometimes you don't lose, the other guy just won. That was quite an exhibition!

Maybe Phil just always finishes 2nd when NBC is covering the event?

The only way to look at it.
That was thrilling to watch, and I doubt most people would use the adjective "thrilling" to describe golf.

Jason went to the 18th yesterday -1, and 18 is the easiest hole on the course and a par 5, so you had to think he was looking good for a birdie and a 68. Unfortunately, it was a bogey and a 70 instead. Things would look a lot different starting out at 1:10 today at 2 under as opposed to even par. Hopefully a solid round today, though, and at LEAST making the cut in a major championship.

I must have misread his scorecard - initially, his scorecard was showing +1 for the round at the end of the day. There was a birdie on the front 9 that wasn't showing yesterday. That said, finishing holes have been a glaring weakness for Jason all year long.
So far, the cut line is shaping up to be +1 and up; Jason better shoot at least a par 70 to move on to the weekend.

Jason just bogeyed the easiest hole on the course for the second straight day. Not looking great heading to the (tougher) front nine to close out the day.

Just doubled 1.....I think he's done. Golf is about 90% of a mental game, and I'm just not sure if Jason has the mental makeup to ever win a tournament; let alone a major.

Hitting it to five feet on the second hole after the two shitty holes before that shows some pretty serious mental toughness.

I'm sorry how many PGA tour victories does he have? You realize basically everyone on the tour has won at every stage right? I'm not saying the guy isn't good at golf, obviously he is I mean any idiot can see that. However there is a gigantic difference between being on the tour, and winning events on it, especially majors. So no what I said is not ridiculous..maybe it is in your own mind.

So if I just get mentally tougher, I can play, and win, on the PGA?

Even a runner-up finish on the PGA Tour will net a decent payday as well as FedEx Cup points.
As it is, it's looking less likely that he'll make this major cut.

So Jean van de Velde had mental fortitude huh? How about Lee Westwood, Greg Norman, sergio Garcia or any countless number of pro golfers who can't or couldn't win a major even though they have or had just as much talent as anyone else. PGA tour is another animal, then there are winning tournaments, then there are winning majors...each one takes another level of.mental focus each one greater than the next. Yes of course talent, practice etc is a part of it, but so is mental makeup and I don't think Jason has it to win on the PGA tour, let alone a major..my bad

This just begs the question : why not ? Jason is only on his 3rd year playing PGA Tour and stats would show few guys win so soon. Leave the unlicensed psychology in the trash.
3 shining examples might demonstrate otherwise. His first Web victory he was literally the last alternate into the field & shot the lights out to win; then in his first year on Tour he came down to the last couple events well outside the Top 125 to keep his card. He then finished T2 (IIRC) 1 shot out of playoff w/Jonas Blixt who birdied the 72nd hole to win. That T2 vaulted Jason into the 125 to keep his card. Finally earlier this year at LA Open, Jason needed a 12' for par on #16 to stay up with Bubba Watson. Showed plenty of mental toughness that day against Bubba & Adam Scott.

Today was a good finish for Jason - 2 birdies on the final 2 holes allowed him to card a 69 and put him +1 through 3 rounds. He's currently tied for 60th; that might be enough for him to move on to Sunday.

Playoff time! Jason tees at 12:10 today, and even if he misses the cut this week he'll make the top 100 and qualify for next week. But it would be nice to see him have a good finish this week and put himself in a better position to be in the top 70 in two weeks and to make his first Tour Championship (top 30) in about a month.
He's #65 now.

Smooth 66 for Jason today, easing the effects of yesterday's 74 and actually pulling Jason into contention at -2 (T16 and currently 4 shots back). Certainly happy Jason gets to stay for the weekend!
Apparently he bombed in a 41 footer to save par on the 18th, too. Nice!

Nice finish after bogeying his final 2 holes yesterday; if he can somehow get near the Top 10, it would all but clinch spots up to the 3rd leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
He and Jamie Lovemark are both tied for the best round today (the 66 that Go mentioned above).

CBS had a graphic showing Jason making the 5th largest jump so far this werkend.
