Yep. He's in the clubhouse and currently tied for 7th. Nice finish and payday.

Jay is up to almost $1.6 million in earnings this year.

Not bad for a kid from Warren, Ohio.

$953 each time he hit the ball this weekend.

Love to see it continue & hopfully get a W soon, as he's shown he can play with the big boys.

I missed Rickie Fowler's meltdown on his last 4 holes; that temporarily cost him a Ryder Cup spot for Team USA. He can still be a captain's pick, though.

Jason finished with a -1 round today; that puts him tied for 19th at the moment.

joe titan
09-02-2016, 04:40 PM
As long as he makes the cut this week, he should be safe to advance to next week in Indy; but he would need to play pretty well ( Top 10 ea) to make Tour Championship in ATL.

X-band '01
09-03-2016, 02:57 PM
The course had a lot of low scores in the afternoon pairings yesterday - Jason is now taking advantage today with a -3 score today (-4 overall) through 7 holes. The cut line is even par at the moment.

X-band '01
09-04-2016, 02:49 PM
He's still -4 through 3 rounds; that in itself will probably keep him around #43 in the FedEx Cup standings at the moment. He'll advance to the BMW Championship barring a complete meltdown, but there's still quite a bit of work needed if he wants to vault into the Top 30 for the Tour Championship in 3 weeks.

GoMuskies
09-04-2016, 02:57 PM
Eve with a complete meltdown he's in for the next round. But a charge up the leader board tomorrow would make the task simpler in the third event to get into the championship.

09-04-2016, 04:08 PM
He had a couple bad drives coming down the stretch yesterday. One resulted in a bogie on a par 5, but I think he did birdie his last hole.

09-05-2016, 10:28 AM
JK is 4 under today after 13 holes, with a par 5 coming up. He is now 8-under, and tied for 17th, and it is looking like a nice payday is in store for Jason as he positions himself well for the next round of the FedEx Cup in two weeks.

X-band '01
09-05-2016, 10:33 AM
I guess they're expecting bad weather later in the day if they're already halfway through; Jason did start on the 10th tee today.

So far, he's definitely putting himself in a good position to climb a few more spots closer to #30.

The only players with better rounds today are Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy (the current leader).

An excellent finish, and as things stand right now Jason would be 37th in the standings (up 6 spots from last week). Definitely within striking range of the Top 30 when the BMW Championship is played at Crooked Stick in nearby Carmel, IN next week.

09-05-2016, 02:56 PM
Justin Rose was -11 under and in the top 5 thru number 10. He then went bogie, double bogie, triple bogie, par, bogie, triple bogie. 10 over par from hole 11 thru 16.

X-band '01
09-05-2016, 03:16 PM
To add to Waggy's point, Rose's final 8 holes were the difference between being safely in the Top 30 and ending up #50 - he's got a lot of work ahead of him now next week.

McIlroy, on the other hand, started out +4 after his first 4 or 5 holes on Friday and shot lights out since then.

On the financial side, Jay won another $212,500 today and has now won $1.8 million this year.
Not bad for not winning a tournament. It will happen soon though. Jay is on the verge of breaking through.

Jason turned -3 only 2 shots off the early lead. Crooked Stick is a course for the horse this week.

X-band '01
09-08-2016, 02:52 PM
And play is suspended at the moment. Wonder if a soggy course will lend itself to even lower scores today.

joe titan
09-08-2016, 03:17 PM
IMO soggy will make an already very long course play that much longer & more difficult. Jason's length works to his favor on this track. And just to raise the bar above all reasonable sights IF Jason were to win this week, Capt. Love makes him the final choice for the Ryder Cup.

GoMuskies
09-08-2016, 07:09 PM
Roller coaster ride down the stretch for Jason, but he's back to -3 after getting it up to -4. After hitting his tee shot in the water at the par 3 17th, making a 4 probably almost felt like a birdie. Good to see him right in the thick of things. Looks like he'll need at least a top 10, and maybe a top 5 to advance to the championship. Good start in that direction.

X-band '01
09-08-2016, 08:20 PM
About half the field will have to finish their first round tomorrow - it shouldn't be as bad in a 70-player field, but at least Jason will have some rest tomorrow compared to others who will have as many as 27 holes to play tomorrow.

There's no cut, so if some of the golfers have bad rounds early on, they'll have a chance to redeem themselves a bit during the weekend.

At the moment, Jason is also projected #33 behind Sean O'Hair, Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler.

09-09-2016, 09:55 AM
I read somewhere that everyone that makes the Tour Championship next week gets an exemption in to first 3 majors next year. That would be huge for Jason if he can have a great week this week.

Pete Delkus
09-09-2016, 02:10 PM
Tied 12 at -5 as I write. However, not good enough as he is only predicted to move from Fed Ex Ranking #34 to #32.

He and Kaufman are getting it waaay out there, and eating up the Par 5's - Jay just needs to makes his putts.

X-band '01
09-09-2016, 02:51 PM
That's why Go was saying that a Top 5 was more likely to get Jason above the #30 line; he's about 90 points behind #30 in the live projected standings.

At -4 and a tie for 18th isn't going to be enough; a Top 10 score would also be a bubblish score. If he's still hovering around the #30 mark during the weekend, he'll get a few looks on NBC this time around.

X-band '01
09-09-2016, 03:54 PM
Finishing the 18th with a birdie moves him into a tie for 15th place at the moment. He's now 34th in the live FedEx Cup standings - 33 points behind Rickie Fowler at the moment.

Even par and moves up 3 spaces on projected FedEx cup standings. Now at 31, 1 spot out of the top 30 qualifying for next week's Championship (and next year's majors!). Could be the most important day of Jason's PGA career tomorrow.

To me, its golf that crosses Happy Gilmore and nationalism. Sure the Euros have stuck it to the US since their party in 1999, but dammit it's the Ryder Cup!

Because serious golfers are narcissists, and this is an opportunity for them to come to together for a change and be one big narcissistic team. Very unique opportunity for that.

And now the Euros are looking solid to get at least 3 points in the afternoon session. The closest match involves Rose and Stenson 2-up on Spieth and Patrick Reed through 12 holes.

I don't know how you can like sports including golf and not love the Ryder Cup. That's unfathomable to me as much as it is to you that people enjoy it. It's fun, extremely competitive, different types of games that aren't really on the tour for the most part, it becomes a team sport which is way more fun to me, and it's usa against Them. Plus, to me, for some reason it humanizes golfers a bit. A lot of them seem to be pretty robotic during rhe year, but during the Ryder Cup, you get more emotion out of these guys than at almost any other time.

Now the US lead has been cut to 6.5-5.5 after the morning foursomes. The US was lucky to halve the final point given that Spieth/Reed choked a 4-up lead with 6 holes to play.

It is just amazing to see Sergio Garcia look like Nicklaus, Woods and Palmer together during Ryder Cup play.

Love the Ryder Cup. It's interesting to hear multiple players talk about how there's tour event pressure and major event pressure. But neither compare to Ryder Cup pressure.

McElroy plays like dogshit for 1 1/2 years and in the last month finds his game? The US and their "task force" is a joke. They do realize that by forming this ridiculous committee, if they lose they look even more foolish? Garcia plays out of his mind for this event every two years. Their star rookie (Peiters) is lapping any American rookie. Speith might want to find his game. Patrick Reeds back has got to be tired. Rory feeds off the crowd.......they might want to shut the f^&%$k up. Who beats Rory, Stenson, Rose and Peiters tomorrow? I don't have a good feeling for the Americans. I think Europe is clearly better in this event.....by a long shot. Since they have opened this up to all of Europe, it hasn't really been very close at all.
