This guy is a stud. Saw him play this summer once... Mack has to be pumped for this.

With Goodin's commitment, does that mean Kobi won't be interested in X any more ?

I'm pretty sure Kobi doesn't care. Guys like that know they'll get their playing time. It's more about making Goodin okay with the possibility of Kobi committing; getting him to buy into the idea of playing alongside him would help.

More likely it affects Xavier Simpson.

Quentin Goodin and Kobi Simmons are both being recruited by Xavier as point guards, but a lot of recruiting services see them more as combo guards. They are both more than tall and athletic enough to switch between either guard position. Either way, it is a great problem to have. Quentin is a fantastic pick up in a class where we need a point guard. I would really like to see them finish off the class with Dylan Painter or Taurean Thompson, then push for hopefully one more out of the 5 star guys available (Kobi Simmons or Markelle Fultz).

My thoughts exactly.
Simmons and Goodin sharing the court is in some ways redundant, but it can definitely work. Depending on the situation, either one can run the point on individual plays and either one can play off the ball as a scorer. Dee and Semaj did this too, but with Dee more as a shooter than a scorer off the ball.

Obviously, academics are important to him and his parents.

I was curious - does anyone have a sense who the staff wanted more between Xavier Simpson and Quentin Goodin? I had not heard as much about Goodin but I like that he is taller... I wondered if the staff had a preference or if they were content to take either.

According to his coach he is a good student and his parents like X's academic status.

Good to see some talent coming out of the state of Kentucky again. Particularly when it's talent that commits to Xavier!

From what I understood, the staff would take either one, or both. Simpson is more of a pure point guard, but Goodin can also run the point and is too talented for the staff to pass on. They've been on Goodin for awhile.

I am wondering if the staff is still recruiting Simpson?
Given the choice between Simpson and Goodin, I take Goodin. He's 6 inches taller than Simpson. Without having seen either play, this is complete speculation on my part though.

Here's ESPN's write up from yesterday--"Rowan commits to NC State, reclassifies to 2015". Oh, wait, it's ESPN, and the Big East no longer exists!

Yeah, although some of our best PG's were undersized. Chalmers, Holloway, Lavender

While I love a good ESPN bashing, they did a write up on the commitment plus a scouting report on Quentin. Linked for those with insider. (http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/on-the-trail/insider/post?id=14255)

Goodin is also much taller, and more versatile on the defensive end. He will be able to guard multiple positions.

Ha, I saw that. The Courier-Journal is the only place where I've seen him listed as 6'4". Everywhere else has him as 6'3" or 6'2", so think Semaj-size. He's also athletic and quick, like Semaj, just not quite on the same elite level. He's easily a better shooter, though, which isn't too hard.

'Maj shot 39% from 3 his last year here.
He just didn't shoot a whole lot of them (only 49) which is why i think a lot of people don't think of him that way.

Sample size, sample size, sample size. That's why people don't think of him that way. I knew someone would respond with his percentage, like it matters with that few attempts. Semaj has a lot of confidence in himself and had the ball a lot at Xavier; we would have seen a lot more attempts if he thought he was even an okay shooter. He passed up a lot of open looks in the process of averaging less than a single attempt per game.

Not looking at percentages or sample size- I just know whenever he shot a three I was pleasantly surprised it went in.

I used to feel that way watching my son's high school team. I mean.... the ball has to come down somewhere, right? Why can't it occassionally be inside the rim?

I love that we finally got a recruit named Quentin.
I think that is a first!
Isn't it great discussing which 4 Star recruit we'd prefer? Getting official visits from 5 Star guys? I'm loving this!

This guy looks like a stud. I have not been following the recruit this year, but I'm happy he's coming to XU. Great size and it appears he's more than comfortable putting the ball on the floor in traffic. I was impressed with his instinct on passing and ability to split some double teams. I think he's ideal for point guard.
I do think his shot needs a lot of work (mechanics). He's not going to score as easily around the rim in college (unless he's way faster than I think). So he really needs to tighten up that form. Too much fade with every jumper. A lot of these makes in the video have little to no defense. That said, he also seems pretty saavy with knowing where to move to get opportunities.

Ronda would look good in a Xavier uniform (and even better without it)!
