It's an interesting concept if I understand it. There's big money (is it really a million bucks?) on the line only for the winning team. It allows anyone to assume the role of GM and get a real team of players together. Fan votes and some at-large selections get teams into regional play. Lavender's team made the "top 17" (last year's winner gets a bye) and that group plays a couple games in Chicago about a week from now. Final games are on ESPNU/ESPN. Maybe somebody can explain more.

So who finances this thing? ESPN? sponsors?

Looking at some of the rosters, looks like a buncha teams are composed of former college teammates. Why no all XU squad?

There was an attempt to get a Xavier Alumni team (https://www.thetournament.com/teams/xavier-alumni), get 100 fan votes, etc. (I saw a post on the other message board). If this thing becomes bigger, it might be a lot of fun to see this come to be in future years.
A good recap (https://www.thetournament.com/2014-recap)of 2014.

They show the finals on ESPN, it's a kind of a big thing as far as non NBA stuff goes.
If anyone goes to or knows of the blog Barstoolsports.com, they had a team last year. There were some good videos of it.

I follow barstool sports daily. They almost single-handedly made the event as big as it was last year. Without them, the event doesn't get as much exposure. They sold the gym out with stoolies.

Sounds like we need to remind everyone on XH to vote for the XU Alumni team next year. Wouldn't mind seeing Redford hit a few more 3's!

I've never heard of any of the players on Team 23, who Lavender will face in the Sweet 16. Of course, I don't remember any of Lavender's teammates, either.

It looks like Lyons is on a team, too. Will Sheehy, Christian Watford, and Jordan Hulls are on the roster.
