Anyone have any info on X players playing, rosters, results? Seems like it's dying out fast, but it's usually fun to take in a few games. Thanks.

It's scaled back a bit so it is 6 teams playing 5 games this year followed by the tournament (The past few years it's been 10 teams playing 9 games then the tournament). Below are the results, remaining schedule, and rosters so far (more can always show up). I believe Semaj Christon was there this past Sunday (not to play), and Jamal Walker is still on the mic. That's been the extent of the Xavier participation so far.

Yet somehow managed a win over Slats.

It sucks that this has happened to the summer league. Can you imagine the numbers Macura would be putting up in the summer league? He'd probably average a triple-double, and we'd be ready to anoint him an All-American.

If none of the Xavier players show up this weekend, than the league is pretty much worthless this year.

Unless if you are a fan of Cincinnati State haha

So what are our players doing this summer? Most players grind on AAU/elite teams through high school. Is there a trend to discourage summer league Play. Injury risk reduction? Bank summer classes to reduce in season academic loads?

GoMuskies

Well, the Summer League wouldn't prevent anyone from taking classes. And I'm certain the guys are playing pickup everyday in games that are at least as intense as a summer league game. So the injury risk isn't really reduced. I'm also curious as to why guys aren't playing there anymore.

Aren't there some relatively new NCAA rules that prevent players from playing together in an "organized" setting?

GoMuskies

They've not been able to play more than three or four together in this league for a number of years.

Hmm, I thought last year was the first time.

I think last year someone got hurt, but it was more of a scare than a real injury. Like someone said before, some of these old-timers are out for blood; there's playing intensely and then there's playing riskily. Then you consider the egos of some of these coaches, including J.P.'s coach who benched him in favor of some JUCO players, and the current Xavier players might have just said, "Screw it."

Remy Abell slipped at the end of a game on a breakaway with no contact last year. Like you mention, it was a scare, but turned into nothing and nothing to do with dirty play or anyone "out for blood."
I would think the summer league would be a safer, more controlled environment with officials and fans in the stands then an open gym with many of these same "old-timers."

There was a rule change last year- the rule for a while has been a limit of 2 players from the same college per team, but before last season incoming freshman were exempt from that number.
So if Xavier had six incoming freshmen in 2013, all six could play on the same summer league team and you could even have two of the current players on that same team with them.
Starting in 2014, if Xavier had six incoming freshman in a season, they would have to be split up to at least three teams (no more than two per team) with no "veterans" on the team with them.

And don't forget last year there was the matter of that trip to wherever the sun shines all the time??? Or was that the before year??Hey it's late and I'm old. I think the summer leagues have served their purpose. It seemed like it came down to X v UC and players had a hard time holding back. And there was no or very little defense. It also seems like the season ran longer and the summer league just wasn't that interesting. :slapfight:

Somebody didn't tell Cincinnati State about the rules.

Cincy State is governed by the NJCAA and not the NCAA.

I don't think UC played in the summer league last year, correct? I seem to recall the change in rules described by USFL Dan above was going to cause a lot of schools to question sending their participation. Those rosters have a lot more HS players than I remember seeing in the past as well.

Last year Kevin Johnson and one other bum UC player played in it, but that was it. There's always been a decent amount of HS players in it, but the pro players dont show up any more, and for the most part, neither do the ones from any of the major D1 schools. Montrezl Harrell was randomly playing last year though
