Northern Kentucky is expected to announce on Monday that they will accept a bid for membership as the tenth team in the Horizon League, according to a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer (http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/2015/05/09/northern-kentucky-university-horizon-league/27041055/). That announcement is pending a vote by the school board.

Huge for them.

Great for them. Saw that the majority of their conference opponents would be within 300 miles, allowing for more bus trips and less planes. An upgrade for the program for sure.

NKU's arena is an upgrade to the Horizon as well. I could see NKU as a host to their conference tournament.

You're going to make 'brew very upset with that comment!

They're already committed to Detroit for a few years - 2 years in Joe Louis Arena and then a couple more seasons in the new Detroit arena.

Logical move for them. Other conference really made no sense from a travel sense. Florida Gulf Coast????

At that time the ASun was the only conference that would take NKU. They tried to get in the OVC, but didn't get enough votes because some of the schools thought that with no football program and their facilities, NKU would have too much of an advantage.

The Horizon still had Loyola in their conference when NKU applied for Division I. They had 10 members and would have needed another school to join to at least get to an even number of 12. The OVC already had 12 members and would have caused a scheduling imbalance (unlike the Atlantic Sun who needed members at any cost).

Not only is the Horizon League wrecking the format of their tournament, and consequently their regular season, they're playing the damn tournament in Detroit of all places. Of all the places in the world that everyone would love to be in the month of March, Detroit certainly tops the list.

Come on now! Detroit is just as much of a "destination" as Columbus or Rochester.

I wouldn't mind being in Detroit in March. Granted, I wouldn't leave MGM Grand Detroit (unless it was to head over to Casino Windsor), but nonetheless you wouldn't have to drag me to Detroit.

That's not saying much. (Although DC tells me Columbus has some lovely craft breweries...)

Detroit is full of problems, no one can deny that. But there are some really vibrant parts of the city. Though, after spending 18 years in metro Detroit, I have to agree with Brew. Detroit in March is brutal. I thought I moved to the south when I spent my first winter in Cincinnati!

Yeah I was very helpful since it was obvious you didn't know what the fuck you were talking about.

And yes I'm asshole just busting balls.

Me too! Got a lot of weird looks wearing shorts in 50 degree weather.

I'm fine with the tournament being in Detroit, but only in the years Detroit finishes in first place.

For teams like Wright State, and Green Bay, and Cleveland State, THE ONLY GAMES THAT EVER SOLD OUT WERE TOURNAMENT GAMES, OR GAMES THAT IMPACTED HOME COURT ADVANTAGE IN THE TOURNAMENT!!

And, you know what else??..................

Oh, just forget it.
