Xavier's Chris Mack has tabbed Rhode Island's Luke Murray as his new assistant coach, sources told ESPN. Strong New England/Northeast ties.

Xavier coach Chris Mack has hired URI assistant Luke Murray, source told ESPN. Quality addition as Murray is a grinder.

Unless he got assurances that he's going with Mack to Florida if Mack gets that job.

I just hope his dad comes to a few games and becomes a big donor.

You would think that should be the case. A good sign I guess, but..... They always say they're not leaving until they go. (I'm a worrier.)

Not if you care about basketball. I love Bill Murray but don't think being related to him has anything to do with basketball chops. I'm more impressed that he seems to be well thought of by other coaches and a hard worker. I have some concern that he hasn't stayed anywhere long but that doesn't mean he will not give his best while at X.

But wouldn't it be awesome if there were a confluence of the weird Bill Murray party stories and Stainbrook the Uber driver?

I actually see that as a huge positive. Every move has been a step up. Obviously he's highly motivated and doing the right things. It probably means we will lose him in a year or two (probably to a head coaching job even) but I don't really see that as that much of a negative in today's landscape. Of the guys that were rumored to be considered he was definitely my favorite candidate.

I have some concern that he hasn't stayed anywhere long but that doesn't mean he will not give his best while at X.

If you look closely at his stops, he worked for Dan Hurley at TWO different schools. This tells me he was following opportunities to work with what good programs he thought were attainable to him. I like that he worked for a short time with Miller, and though I don't know much about Hurley's system, he's obviously a respected basketball mind with a strong pedigree.

This guy seems like a good fit for XU. I wonder what his focus will be, coaching wise. I'm sure on the recruiting trail, just telling families who he is related to will open some conversations easily. And perhaps he has some of his dad's humor.

Bill Murray is a huge basketball fan.

From Shannon's article about Murray, speaking about his father:

"LM: Yeah, we're close. I spoke to him this morning. He's obviously a big sports fan, a big basketball fan, and has a great appreciation for Xavier and their history. Because of my relationship with Terrell, he and I watched a lot of Xavier games through the years. His niece went to Xavier and ran cross country, so he's been pretty familiar with the school for a long time and he's definitely excited."

It's notable that after Isaiah Philmore left Towson U for Xavier, Murray's team he had to work with was inexperienced (and terrible), starting out 0-17. He may have stayed so briefly because the odds were long.

He is in Mad Men. And Luke's aunt is a nun, my sister had her as one of her teachers in high school. Not that any one cares, just thought I throw all this out there.

Old is relative. In Florida we were the young people. In Atlanta we are the old people. What the hell happened? We still laugh about a night out on the town for a nice meall in Florida. At the table next to us we heard the following:

Wife: Frank, you forgot your hearing aids, didn't you?

Frank: WHAT?

Movies, just like any other piece of art, are all in the eye of the beholder. What someone may think is amazing, another can think is horrible. I try not to be judgemental about what people's taste in art is, but it's hard, especially with some of the horrible music out there (in my opinion:)
