That's too bad. Probably the best for both parties though. He'll be successful somewhere, just too much talent in front of him with us. Best of luck for sure

Brandon's father, who he is close with, had some health issues last year. That plays with your mind including whether you really want to stay all in.
I can't say whether that did affect his state of mind, but it's possible.
That being said, it was not an empty 2 years for Brandon. His big shot 3 against SucKS last year was arguably the largest shot of the game and he played a great game vs Mizzou this year.
Good luck going forward Brandon. You're contributions are duly noted! Thanks!

I have said before, but Brandon's skillset was too much that of a shooting guard, where he was too far down the depth chart, and not enough that of a point guard, where he was needed more. It's unfortunate that his abilities didn't match Xavier's needs.

His playing time would have probably been limited next year (and probably the year after). I certainly understand the decision. I can't say I'm not disappointed, though. I was hoping for big things from the kid...I liked what I saw from him. It always makes me a little sad when it "doesn't work out" with X and a kid, but in the end, probably best for both parties. BEST of luck to you, Brandon. Hope you land on your feet (whether you jump off of one OR two feet).

Sad to see, always liked him but I definitely understand his decision. Hope he tears it up for some west coast team in front of his dad.

Sometimes I feel like our transfers are a little clearer than this. He had shown flashes of promise and even had a couple games where he really was a key factor. I know he's lost in the shuffle at PG but I can't help but think he could've been productive here. I enjoyed watching him play and good luck to him wherever he lands.

The only thing g that worries me about this is we are going to be very green at the pg spot unless we sign a juco or grad transfer or Myles is able to play there.
I'm not too concerned about losing him in a vacuum, but it does leave us thin on experience at the point.

Austin played some good minutes at the end, and did well, I think he will be fine.

X should be ok with the combination of Larry handling point, with Myles, Remy, and Sumner to spell him. However, with having two open "ships" next year, I would be pretty surprised if X doesn't bring in a 5th year transfer PG. IMO, it should be an easy sell if the guy is good enough: plenty of playing time at PG (possibly starting), and the chance to be the final piece for a team that could win the Big East and go deep in the Tourney.
Team 94, that's what's up.

That makes sense. Our roster next year already has 3 FR (London, Sumner, and Gates), 4 SO (Austin, Bluiett, Macura, and O'Mara), 2 JR (Davis and Reynolds), and 2 SR (Abell and Farr). If there was a way to bring in a JR and SR to balance the classes and add some "maturity" to the team, that would seem to be the right way to go.

I like Larry as a player. I think he has a lot of upside.
Having said that, he barely played this past year.
He didn't enter the game in 1/3 of our games and in the others he only played 5+ minutes 9 times. He only played 10+ 4 times.
On the year he had a total of 6 assists and although it was a limited dataset he had almost twice as many turnovers as assists.
Again, I am very excited for the type of player Larry can and hopefully will be here. I just think that when you really look at it there wasn't a whole lot to be gleaned from his performance this year.

I agree that in a perfect world we find a 5th year PG transfer to come in and lead the team.
The 5th year transfer market is a tricky one though, especially when it comes to points and big men. The reason being that if you are a good one, just about every program in the country will be coming after you which obviously makes it tough to recruit those guys.
It is without a doubt a sellers market.

Austin shows a lot of promise, but you have to view this position as being one the team is very green at. Austin just didn't see a ton of floor time and there was a reason for that which had more to do with him than how Dee was playing. He might really improve over the summer, but it is a question mark until he settles in and starts playing minutes. Personally, I like what I saw, but as others have stated he turned the ball over too much. (As did all of our younger guys.)
I'm also hoping that Sumner will be the tall point guard of our dreams, but the health issue that kept him out this year also makes it a question mark. There seemed to be a reasonable explanation for what he was experiencing, so we should expect him to be at full health. Again, until the minutes get logged, his ability to run the team is a question. I do like him for the combo guard role, with more of a scorer position.
Sadly, even a senior transfer will take a while to learn the system. It may actually work better having our other guards try to learn the job better and rotate to see who is most effective.

Brandon is a class guy. When I saw him on the sidelines in the NCAA tournament and in the locker room, he was one of the biggest supporters and he seemed to enjoy his teammates. I am sure he knew he was gone but yet he was still a great teammate.
I am sorry it didn't work out. It happens in the world of D-1 basketball. I hope he finds what he needs and I wish him the best.
Here's to Brandon, a player who shot a amazing 55% from the 3 this year (even if only 11 attempts).
If you are reading this thread, I am glad you were part of the team. I really enjoyed your play. While I wish we would have seen more of you on the floor, I have a feeling your future is bright indeed.
All the best to you as you move on to a new place. You will always be an X player to me though. Cheers

I see that Mark Pope left BYU to be the head man at UVSU this offseason. So they should be a fun team if nothing else. :)

It amazes me how thin the line can be between high major and mid to low major ball.
If not for an injury Randolph might be headed into next season as the leading candidate to start at point.
Instead he gets hurt, loses his backup spot to Larry and ends up transferring to a lower level.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't end up at a bigger school.

I don't think injuries did him in. He wasn't a productive point guard. I think he'll do well at his new place if he plays two guard.

Oh I agree that he isn't a pure point, but IMHO neither is Larry.
I had thought Larry started taking a lot of his minutes right about the time he hurt his calf. Maybe I am misremembering that.

Agreed. Really, he was a good enough two guard to play minutes at Xavier but just wasn't going to get that opportunity with Myles, Remy, and Macura on the team. The need was at the one but his abilities were at the two. I think he could have done much better that Utah Valley, but maybe the better schools just weren't taking him as a point guard.

Much better is so subjective though. Play 35 minutes a game and have the ball in your hands at a beautiful campus. Where do I sign up?

Liked what I saw in limited minutes but he was always going to be in a tough spot on the depth chart. I thought signing him made no sense when they did grab him, and it never really seemed to make any more sense while he was here. Hope he has a great career there.

My recollection is that high major programs were not exactly knocking down his door in the first place. I'm guessing Mack saw this as a bit of a flier--a high upside, low risk proposition. Maybe it didn't work out on the court, but he seems like a good kid who represented XU well. I certainly wish him all the best, and hope he gets all he wants out of life.

That's how I remember it as well. Despite his high ranking, I think his only high major offers were us and maybe Missouri?

He committed after the Wells' expulsion and X was losing every recruiting battle after that, except for the guy who chose X over St. Joe and LaSalle and left after one year. At the time, from an appearance standpoint, Randolph was a big signing.

That was a nice shot to help maintain our lead that game, but when you have to point out a single shot as his best moment, it means he just didn't do much here. Always thought he had good potential, just didn't have much confidence in his outside game. I really do hope he does very well at Utah Valley though.
