I remember the first time I seen the big stain. Western Michigan came to the tas when stain was a freshman and he was in turrrible shape at the time. He was only able to play in 4-5 minute spurts before he needed a breather, but boy did he take it to kenny frease. I remember thinking how is this fat out of shape slob owning our highest ever recruit up to that point. Turns out he worked his ass off and become a great player. Definitely one of my favorite players in recent history.

I know Stain has his mind set on business, but I would think he has a big future ahead in basketball, certainly could have a great time showing off his skills in Europe, but more importantly I think he has coach written all over him. Imagine if he could teach the "big" skills that he has wowed us with for 2 years,,,

Stainbrook will likely find success wherever he looks whether it's basketball in Europe or ending his playing career for a job in the states. Personally, I would not be surprised at all to see Dee Davis on the bench as an assistant.

if for no other reason that to show Jalen how to play a bit more even-keeled.

agree whole heartedly on the stain comment

I could see Stain trying to play a bit more ball, if anything to get some money to help start a business.

The guy would do well as a coach because he's likeable and understands what commitment means to turn things around.
But if he went into the corporate world I bet he'd be a hit on many companies' teams.

I disagree with this, I don't see coach written all over him. I know it's a common thing to say about a senior, and he's a very skilled guy, but everything I've read about him has painted him as a little quiet and sort of withdrawn demeanor. He was never a rah-rah leader, firing guys up and stuff. Just sort of doing his own thing, leading by example. I don't know how well that translates into coaching, where you have to be sort of manic.

Thanks for posting. Yes. He does deserve the attention. A really good guy with the great ability to lead his teammates to play better.

His wonderfully unorthodox approach to everything he does and his passion and commitment to excellence over the past two years has made him truly magnetic. What a special player and a special person to have as part of the Xavier family.

Strangely enough, my sister saw him in downtown Indy on Friday night. He was waiting on a corner after she had just gotten in her Uber ride. She yelled at him. He asked if she was his Uber driver. I guess at the end of the day, he still has to wait on a car.

All of us in the Brotherhood are extremely proud that Matt has been chosen to be the recipient of the Lew Hirt Society award for 2015.

There may have never been a more deserving honoree. Matt represented Xavier in an outstanding manner, not just through his play on the court, but by his off-court press interactions and all around good cheer. The fact that he is a St. Edward graduate, makes it extra special.

Congratulations and Thank You, Mr. Stainbrook. Continued good fortune in whatever path you follow.

The article is about him branching out and doing something different...and being enthusiastic about it. Should that not be lauded? Quentin Rollins from Miami went outside the box and decided to play football in his last year of eligibility. He just got drafted in the second round by the Packers. He went a different route and it paid off. Why not be impressed with Stain trying to achieve excellence in a different sports forum? Good for him, I say. And it does make me like him more.

Did you read the article? It's not just that he's busy doing a different sport but that he's showing as much dedication to the "little old track and field team" as he did for basketball. He's in his off-season. He doesn't need to be at practices and workouts at 6 am. No one would fault him if he chose to focus solely on graduation and the next level of his career. He didn't have to join up to support the team and fill in an empty spot (they have no mail thrower apparently).

I think it's great that he's doing this and another fun story for his legacy at X.
