You are the coach. You have 3 scholarships for the 2016 recruiting class (replacing Farr, Abell and the inevitable transfer). You will attract a 4 star, a 3.5 star and a 3 star (no arguments on this, please). What are the positions you will fill (specify the characteristics, e.g. stretch four, traditional center, slashing 3, etc.) and with what priority (by stars). Be realistic.
Here are my choices:
4 star: big man, strong rebounder who can play center since the recruit will be a freshman when Jalen is a senior and O'Mara is a junior
3.5 star: PG who is good defender and can run an offense. Austin will be a junior and it is not clear that Sumner is a PG.
3 star: a 3 who is a slasher and decent defender

Not to derail this already, but there's a VERY good chance you're replacing Jalen Reynolds as well.

Maybe. Jalen is already 22 (?). Talent and athleticism is one thing, but I would argue that there is a strong push to get that at the youngest age possible in the NBA. I would think we could see something like with Derrick Brown, going in the second round. If projections are there, I could see Jalen sticking it out all four years. It all comes down to if he plays like Good Jalen more often, or bad Jalen.

I agree that Jalen's last season will be next year. He will go to the draft or make money playing basketball overseas. If he can back for his senior year he would be a 24 yr old year senior.

After next year, Jalen will have been here 4 years. He just will not be a senior athletically.

Don't rule Jalen out of his senior year. I'm sure he will be itching to play with his boy Myles. They have been together through all of this. Depending on what happens next year......their senior year could be too special for Jalen to leave.

If Jalen stays for the 2016-17 season, we are going to the final four that year. I truly believe that....Reynolds Myles and Remy Seniors, Tre JP O'Mara and Austin all Juniors, Sumner and London second seasons
That is one heck of a talented and experienced group.
I think next year may be a lot like this year where we struggle to find out rhythm, but in the end win an NCAA game or two. Two years from now this team could be something really really special.

My bad...I don't know why but I thought he only played one season at IU...well time for him to step up in a big way next year then!

We had a bunch of knuckleheads saying before this year that he would be going pro now.....
Jalen has some work to do. Without Stain next year it will be interesting to see how much attention he gets.

Well I think this thread is pretty much derailed, but I'd be shocked if Jalen left after next year.
If he does, that means he's had a pretty tremendous year, and I think I would be OK with that. He is extremely talented, but still needs to improve big time in a few areas to help replace what we lose with Stain. I think he's going to have a really uphill battle getting drafted because of his age, so I could also see him staying all four years just because the publicity would be a tremendous boost to his stock. I really do think he could play in the NBA someday if he really focuses and fine tunes his game.
But, I could also see him leaving a little earlier than he should, a la Derrick Brown, and maybe going overseas after a year or two of fighting to make a roster.

He plays like he did last night for 35 games next season and he will (and should) be gone.

So funny because all year I thought Remy was a sophomore eligibility-wise and then like two weeks ago I heard he was a junior. Not sure how it's possible I missed that.
I love Jalen, but I hope pro basketball is the reason he leaves Xavier early. He has a bit of a history with us, so I have this gnawing fear that won't be the case.

Doug Gottlieb said he should declare now. Already NBA body, can shoot and can finish and is 22. I will take one more year.

I agree that the 4 star should be a big. The 3.5 star should be an athletic wing that can lock down on defense. Point guard for the last spot. It's the hardest job to learn, but I have faith our coaches can work with the players at that skill set coming in.

Gottlieb is a fool. Jalen is at best a 2nd rounder now. He absolutely has to stay next year to prove he can play consistently through out the season and keep the techs down. Jalen will also be the defensive down low focus for other teams and he needs to show he can handle that. How much of his success this year was due to Stain being double teamed. Physically he is ready but his game is not and he will get eaten up at the next level right now.

I agree he is a 2nd rounder at best now, but the NBA isnt watching him this next year to make sure he can "keep the techs down". They dont care about that at all. As long as it isnt something really agregious like laying a haymaker or going into the stands they arent going to be concerned with his technicals.

I think they would be watching the "play more consistently" part. He didn't start because of his fouling (which goes to his defense), not because of techs. His jawing isn't a problem, but his propensity to foul while on defense and be caught out of position are. Let's be honest, the NBA is a young man's game. If you are going to be taken in the first round at age 22, you better be completely polished, which he is not. He needs to refine his rebounding and offensive game, then he can be a late-first rounder/early second-rounder with the ability to be at the end of a rotation somewhere.
I think he could eventually play at the next level, but his age will already keep him to the second-round (unless he dominates the college game) because they put soooo much on potential in the draft. Staying another year (or two) will benefit him much more in the long-term.

I think we should all be more worried about the investigation involving Jalen more than him leaving for the league.. All of that remains to be seen, but X doesn't exactly have the best history in that category.
Also feel like Mack has a tendency to separate with guys when they are that old and heading into their 5th year of eligibility. Not saying it's going to happen but I wouldn't be surprised if a situation like this arose before Jalen left because he was too good.

You think Jalen would go to another school for his fifth year? From what I hear, Jalen is a great teammate and a good guy (of course, we'll see how the investigation plays out). I think his leaving would be different than when Lyons and Martin were, essentially, kicked off the team.

I'm sure people will hammer me for this, but I totally agree with Doug.
As you mentioned he isn't getting any younger and let's be honest: The way Jalen will be used next year at the college level will be totally different than how he'll be used in the NBA.
The fan in me says I hope he stays, but other than that I think he'd be better off going even if it means spending a year or two in the d-league.

If it comes out that what he did is bad enough, which I've heard it might be, X might not have a choice in the matter. I'm just saying X isn't exactly the best at keeping things like this under wraps.

The if was related to how long he'd need to spend there.

I've heard it's less than a "no big deal kind of thing". If the story I heard is true, he didn't do a damn thing wrong. If anything, his "accuser" has some explaining to do.

Scout board is not saying anything differently. In fact, Scout Board isn't saying anything at all at this point. MOR is correct- this is a non-story. Kind of a funny story, but a non-story from the stand point of Jalen getting into any trouble.

I am pretty sure XU would have sat Jalen against Arizona if this was anything serious. I have also heard this is almost a laughable type of thing.
