Apologies if anyone has posted anything similar. I was just thinking about our recent consistency of winning in the NCAA Tournament and decided to do a little research.

Here goes...

Every 4-year XU player who began his XU playing career after the 1990s has played in the Sweet 16
Ironically, the last player not to enjoy that streak was David West, XU's best-ever player
Every class (completing its XU playing career) during that period has played in the Elite 8, except for one
Ironically, it was one of our best-ever classes (Holloway, Lyons, Freeze, Redford)
That class was a double-OT Kansas State game away from extending the Elite 8 streak throughout the 2000s
Dee has a chance tonight to keep Tu's class as the only post-2000 class to miss the Elite 8
Over the past 30 years, only one XU class failed to win an NCAA Tournament game (1997-98 freshmen)
Freshmen from the 1983-84 class (the year before Byron Larkin) began that streak, with XU's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 1987
Every 4-year XU player from the 1980-81 class (Bailey, Jenkins, Fleming, Shimko) on has played in an NCAA Tournament game
XU had only one NCAA Tournament appearance prior to the 1980s and no victories

That's some impressive stuff. Thanks for sharing.

CORRECTION: Someone on the Scout board reminded me that Jeff Robinson (the class after Tu, etc.) also missed the Elite 8.

I would think the 2008-09, 2009-10 and the 2010-11 freshman classes all missed an Elite 8 since we haven't made one since 2008 (now off the top of my head, I don't now who was in those classes). This year's seniors would have arrived in 2011-12.

Never forget that NO OTHER NCAA DIVISION 1 BASKETBALL TEAM ANYWHERE has 33 consecutive .500 or better conference records.

I was watching a little bit of the XU WVU 2008 Sweet 16 game to get my mind right for tonight...the talent that was on that team was pretty insane....

Lavender, Burrell, Dante, Duncan, CJ, Derrick Brown, BJ, Jlove

only problem was that we then ran into a team with 4 future NBA players, one being an MVP candidate and possible hall of fame player in Westbrook, and the other by the name of Kevin Love.

10 years from now we are going to look at this team and say the same thing. We will say man that final four team we had was loaded!! This team is coming together at the right time. This is our year, I feel it!!

Yeah, that 2008 team was probably our best team. From a stat perspective, they were very, very good on offense and defense.

That UCLA team was definitely loaded with talent, but their whole was not greater than their sum, and were probably the weakest of the 1 seeds. Xavier should have been in that game until the very end, with a chance to win. The fact that we performed so poorly and were blown out by 19 still upsets me.

Totally agree with both posts. Loved that team and completely expected them to beat UCLA. Unfortunate X was not hitting their shots & UCLA couldn't miss. X almost lucked out with UCLA surviving a scare the game before.

X WILL get to the Final Four. If not this year, very soon. I can feel it!

Go X!!!!
