I don't really think it's going to be a distraction. Not like the players are gonna be thinking about it during practice or once the ball tips off on Thursday. Pretty sure that's what all journalism is Parlor. I pay for my cable subscription to watch the news. I pay for my Enquirer subscription to read the paper. Just because Rick is the only reporter out there, aside from Shannon, that ever has any relevant Xavier info doesn't make it exploitation. It's a business. Like everything else in the world.

Not a fan of the Scout business model. I get the recruiting piece. He busts his ass and gets premium information on recruits and prospects that no one else has. This is different. This is him being intentionally vague in 3 tweets and then linking his page. As some have pointed out, there was a press conference, so all the legitimate information is out there and anything else is hearsay and gossip. He basically advertises that he has secret info when he teases a story and then puts it behind a wall. He comes off like a cheap Chris Broussard in this scenario.

Anything would be better than that dumpster fire. By all accounts (heard thus far on this board), I can't imagine this rivals that situation. I think we'd all agree that if it was a little dust-up WITH A GUY, this will iron itself out. If this occurred with a girl (again, a fight, nothing sexual), then that's another issue. But based on what Rick says, it's not in that territory.
Too many ifs and thens at this point. Let's play hoops.

if there is not any kind of assault then why the heck is this even public knowledge? ridiculous. because they had a shouting match?

I'm guessing he stepped in front of someone in line while trying to get a Coke at that fancy new soda machine they have in Fenwick Place.
I'm believing that life is coming to that.
I'm guessing, Jalen was like "Hey, I like your shoes", and she was like "Oh, I also like your shoes!"
That's why I stay out of complimenting shoes. Too risky.

Mo Egger - "there was an argument in a dormitory and, from what I've heard, absolutely nothing physical"
Actually, this is precisely it. A friend sent me a cell phone video of the argument. Went exactly like this:
<<Jalen: I love Kit Kats! They're the best candy bar ever.
Other student: What? How can you love Kit Kats? They're not even really candy bars. Be a man and eat a Snickers!
Jalen: Snickers suck. Milky Ways are way better than Snickers!
Other student: *now in tears* How can you say that? My mother died in a horrible Milky Way incident! She was crushed by a box of Milky Ways that fell from a cargo plane in Albuquerque! You need a reflection session! I'm filing a report.>>
So now you all know.
Besides, everyone knows that Twix are the best candy bars.

Yup. That's pretty much it. Referring to Scout as just gossip and acting like they were trying to attract subscribers with this story (that second part was just stupid). The other times where people give the line, "It's just info you hear a couple days later in public forums." There's more like that, but it's definitely a case of people forming an opinion over something with which they don't have real familiarity.
I get if someone isn't really interested in the recruiting aspects or doesn't want to invest in the day-to-day analysis, breakdowns, podcasts, etc. Or if someone simply gave the answer with the previous board, "I don't care for Brian Snow." There are other legitimate reasons besides those, but at least they are legitimate reasons.

From the enquirer, the student filed a report with the university police over night last night.
So, if nothing physical happened...why would the student file a report? For a shouting match? I find that very odd. I really doubt someone files a police report even if it is a university police report just because Jalen might have called the person names. If that is indeed the case, grow a pair.

Parlor kept referring to Broering's tweet as spreading gossip (laughable, considering it links to pretty much a parallel thread to this one, with all the same concerns).
Of course Scout wants to attract customers. This just isn't an example of that. When Rick links podcasts, breakdowns, recruiting articles, etc., that is partly in an effort to attract customers. No doubt about it. But it's absurd to think that this link is in the same boat. Simply from a marketing perspective, Scout was gaining no new subscribers from this story that weren't already joining up because of other content, because it isn't that type of customer base.
The thing with Scout and people supposedly "taking it personally" is that there a number of Scout subscribers on this board. When you get a lot of people with an actual familiarity of a service, you will get some of them speaking up whenever someone says blatantly untrue things about it. Why? Because such statements were false but presented as true on the message board, plain and simple. If you label is as "taking things personally," then to maintain logical consistency, I guess people are taking things personally whenever they respond to falsehoods on this board.

maybe but the wording in the enquirer article didn't make it sound like it was a third party..just said student filed a complaint against Reynolds....i would think it would have said Reynolds and another student or something to that effect.
What pisses me off is that then it goes on to say "we can't disclose the nature of the report" or some bs like that because of student privacy laws. However, they can let it leak that Reynolds was the one who the complaint was against? That seems like bs to me.

This board is full of disagreement on one topic or another, but somehow this is one of the ones that gets labeled "personal"? What is it, the long posts? Because I have a history of long posts. I missed the very start of the press conference, so maybe he did. I know Matt was asked questions first about whether the freshmen were ready to play, etc. etc. Then Mack was asked about a report that was filed and his response was along the lines of Yes a report was filed. Jalen will still be on the plane. Jalen will still play. We don't believe there is anything behind it, but it will take 4 to 5 weeks to fully investigate. After Matt left the room and before they started asking Mack questions, Mack did not make a statement. So, if one was made it was made before Matt spoke.
Here's (http://www.fox19.com/story/28601307/xavier-university-basketball-player-jalen-reynolds#) an article from Fox 19 News and what Mack said when he was asked about it.

According to Rick at Scout (in attendance), that is not true. It was in response to a question about whether Jalen would be eligible to play. I think he's basing it on what he has heard. And hypothesizing on what he would do, if he was coach and what he heard was true. Hard to know what any of us would do, since he is (probably rightfully) keeping quiet about what he has heard.

I'm guessing, Jalen was like "Hey, I like your shoes", and she was like "Oh, I also like your shoes!"
That's why I stay out of complimenting shoes. Too risky.
The man is holding me down on reps, so public reps to you for this! Hilarious.

Rivals and Scout seem to be in the habit of basically stalking and pretty much annoying the hell out of 15, 16 and 17 year olds (as well as their families and friends) trying to find out whatever they can about them because a bunch of adults who don't know them and will never meet them want to know where they're going to go to college.
That's in general. I'm sure some of the sites are good (I guess), but if Rivals and Scout both disappeared from the internet tomorrow I don't think it would be any sort of huge loss for the sports world.

From this sense, I agree, and I'm a Scout member. I do not read the recruiting articles, because frankly, I'm not going to waste my time on the decisions of teenagers. With that being said, I'm glad to pony up the monthly dues for the Xavier content that is provided, including pregame match ups, video breakdowns, podcasts, etc. I believe that material is top notch.
In terms of drawing people in with material like today, I agree with 09. I also realize that it will be all over Twitter or this board at some point.
$10 might a bit steep for some, but if the board were $2/$3/$4, I think 60-70% of members here would join after giving it a whirl.

Whether it's handled responsibly or not, when you host sites that are marketed as having exclusive information on what unpaid young athletes are doing off the court - to make a profit - it's not that crazy to see why it can rub a bunch of people the wrong way.

I think I am ok with them doing recruiting base stuff. As in that might be the only reason I'd consider paying for a site like that. IMO, though, anything they post first that is big enough news will find its way to Xhoops in 3-4 days. Could be way off on that, just what I figure.

The fault in that logic is that Xavier doesn't exactly have the best track record with their investigations (See Luther Smith and the decisions that got us into our current Title IX problems...and the fact that he is still employed at X).
Hopefully a thorough investigation is completed and the truth comes out, no matter what that truth is.

I honestly have no idea. Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps he knows someone who hasn't been interviewed yet. I haven't a clue. I'm not saying I agree with him. I'm just saying he was obviously expressing a mere personal opinion based on information he trusts -- and frankly not even taking the University to task over their decision which may be based on different information (or not).
I don't know why it would take 4-5 weeks to "investigate" something like this. But I can't get all that worked up about it given the utter lack of available information.

I love that her go to source inside of Xavier is a UC fan who happens to be a Xavier student (had a tweet that even Xavier students don’t want to watch Xavier basketball with a screen shot from the same account).
As far that the rumor posted early this morning, it appears that the inside source is a user in a reddit ncaa forum. The only thing that has come out that is interesting is the Xavier Police records show that the only open incident in the past couple days is a possible assault charge on 3/22 in the Commons.
This is a situation where the people who don’t know are talking and the people that are in the know are not. Hopefully, when the dust settles the correct decision was made as to Jalen’s eligibility.

Based on the fact Xavier tossed Dez Wells, who wasn't arrested or indicted for his incident, I believe Xavier would have nailed Jalen Reynolds to a cross in the middle of the Gallagher Center if they had any reason. The fact he is playing should say a lot about how much BS this incident will turn out to be.
The school has demonstrated they will not take any chances with regards to assault charges, so what makes anyone think they would do a 180 and now sweep this issue under the rug? That isn't how Xavier handles things, we should have learned that much from the Dez Wells case.
This is a complete non issue.

I think there is two ways to look at this if you want to think about how the Dez situation might affect the handling of future incidents. There's the way you described, then there is the thought that given the fact they royally screwed up the Dez situation they will be more likely to be cautious and avoid jumping the gun in the future.
I think the fact they are using a 4-5 week timeline on the investigation points more towards the latter. That is not saying he did anything wrong, just that I wouldn't necessarily jump to any conclusions based on him playing.
Innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz.

I agree with your point but one difference is that the Dez situation involved alleged sexual misconduct while Jalen's situation does not. I think that is important to consider when talking about why they are and can slow down this investigation.

You're so wrong on this. I have personally known recruits from several area high schools while I was in high school and presently through friends. None of the guys(probably 50-60 over the last 7-8 years)have ever felt annoyed. They LOVE it. My friends in high school liked being able to give some info out and loved it even more when coaches from colleges showed up at school to meet with out team's coach. Might there be some who find it annoying? Sure. But I think you're greatly misjudging the situation.
