The pain of that 2007 Ohio State game will finally go away for me. I'll be able to watch that asshole's shot to tie the game and just shrug it off. I will even be able to type his name (probably).

I hope some asshole Arizona fan this offseason has to buy a TBS banner with Sean Miller's written promise to someday FINALLY take the Wildcats back to the Final Four.

We had our own a hole from Ohio St to deal with 2 years ago. One Aaron Craft. Whenever they needed a basket he hit it. Pissed me off to no end. Glad we got to avenge that loss Saturday.

HAHA, one of the AZ boards has a discussion about how Stainbrook is graduating this year and has a year of eligibility left and it is confirmed he has definite interest in going to play for AZ next year. HAHAHHAHHAHAH! Where do they get this stuff????

No not true. It was more than one and it was not quickly corrected. Even after someone posted 4 years worth of stats there was still discussion about how it was confirmed on another board that Stainbrook had reached out with interest in going to AZ next year. HILARIOUS!!!

Hey Greg, welcome to Xavier Nation.

The nickname for Sean Miller being the "desert raccoon" comes from his dark circles under his eyes, especially toward the end of the season. That, and the fact he now coaches in a desert like area.

I should point out, not all Xavier fans refer to him in this fashion. Some (like me) feel he was one of the best (arguably THE best) we have ever had at Xavier. Sean Miller and his teams produced some very memorable seasons, including our only 30 win campaign. His last year at Xavier, he had a solid group of talent returning, recruited a great class including Parrom to play here, and many felt if he and Derrick Brown (who declared early for the NBA) would have stayed, it could have resulted in our first trip to the final four.

I love Sean Miller and wish him well. I am thankful for his time at Xavier, and for how he helped Chris Mack to get the job.

Not everyone here feels the need to begrudge the man because he did what he thought was right for him and his family. But many can't get over the bitter feeling he left us with when he took off for Tucson.

I think I am more amazed at the absolute making stuff up, I mean here are some quotes:

-Keep a close eye on Matt Stainbrook for Xavier, he is graduating and has one year left to play. Word is his people have reached out and suggested he may look at Arizona as a possibility. Very good player.

-That is my understanding of it also, one year at Western Michigan, sat out then played two years for Xavier and there is definite interest in Arizona, but I will double check on that, this is what I saw on another board, there was a big discussion about him, I will have to try and confirm.

-Yes, it was possibly more of a possibility before it was known we would play them in the Sweet 16 from what I am hearing, there is now possibly some concern that it would look bad on him to come here if they lose to us. But there is interest on both ends of this. I really like his game.

Perhaps, but there are plenty of errors in that thread. There was this silliness, for example...

The truly knowledgeable hoops fan knows that Stainbrook's college career isn't done until his team's win against Duke.

Also don't mistake our bravado for disrespect from our team.

We always think we are going to run roughshod over our next opponent, it isn't personal against Arizona.

Its a message board, so take any jabs with a grain of salt. We welcome quality posters with some valid perspective. The trolls and mouth breathers usually get sniffed out and banned quickly.

I'm glad big Matt is getting some much deserved national exposure. I'm also glad he may be our 2nd best big man on this team because Jalen has taken that huge step we all hoped he would. No mock drafts that I've seen have him going anywhere but I do hope he spends another year here instead of a year or two in the D-league.

I understand having an issue with Miller. We've had issues with coaches before (football, not basketball). I remember Larry Smith having a press conference stating he wasn't going anywhere while a Beacon's truck was backing up to his office to take his stuff to USC.

Shouldn't we wait until he can crack the starting lineup before we have him leaving early for the pros? He's extremely talented, but still has some work left to do at the college level.

One poster thought that and was quickly corrected.

You just have to wonder where the initial poster "heard" such a rumor. Matt holds his undergraduate degree in Finance from Xavier and he's sitting for his MBA right now. It's basketball overseas and then a banking career, most likely, for Matt when he finishes up on Victory Parkway.

BTW, I watched the special Clark Kellogg did with Sean for CBS. It was very well done. I know it's never easy when you're (Xavier, in this case) fans of a program who are on the exit end of a coaching transition. Obviously, compounding that is the fact that we take great pride in the Xavier program and truly believe it is a place where the F4 and NC's can be achieved, especially now that we have the conference affiliation thing resolved nicely.

I believe Sean is truly grateful for having had the chance to coach at Xavier. I'm sure it was a very hard decision for him to leave. That had to be the case if the stories are true that he initially turned down the Arizona offer, only to change his mind after Calipari and Matta convinced him to do so over a Sunday telephone call one day.

His biggest mistake, at least as far as Xavier fans are concerned, is when he whispered into the ear of Parrom that thing about comparing certain automobile brands. When that got out, well - - damn.

Otherwise, I always understood Arizona as a solid option for Sean. I spent a lot of time in my earlier career in Scottsdale and Phoenix and loved it there. Hard to argue that a strong quality of life cannot be achieved there, though 3-digit temps in the summer require an adjustment (I know, "dry heat!").

At any rate, regardless of what fans of Arizona say or fans of Xavier say, it will be the case that Chris Mack and Sean Miller will remain very close friends after one of them wins and one of them loses.

Truthfully, I think you'd find most on this board don't have a personal issue with Sean. Most consider him the best coach we've had and are grateful for the time he spent here. He left in a much better manner than his predecessor.

As a WVU fan, tell Rich Rodriguez he's still a bastard.

In Xavier news, I feel like you guys are very long and that could disrupt our offense, how well does Arizona take care of the ball? I've only caught like 2 games.

How's this: Sean Miller became Xavier's Head Coach after a camera crew caught Thad Matta rolling up to Ohio State's hoops facility with the Buckeye AD AFTER Thad had assured Father Hoff that he was staying at Xavier.

I know it's a tight line these guys walk when they transition from one job to the next, but, if you know you're leaving, just come above board and don't pretend like you're about to hurt your soon-to-be former school's recruiting at that moment, given that you will, in fact, disrupt that program as soon as you actually do leave.

I completely agree. I'm the first to admit I was less than thrilled when Miller left, and I willingly take pot shots over the Buick/Lexus thing because it's so absurd and such a silly comparison, but I hate the Desert Raccoon crap. Plus, after this many years, it's one thing to take shots professionally at the guy, but are we still pining so hard for him that we have to take personal pot shots as well?

His ridiculous Departing Press Conference alone is enough reason for scorn. And no one is "pining" for him. We have a coach with the most Sweet 16's in school history right now.

We know why you left. You didn't think you could win a National Championship here- a slap in our collective faces. You're gone. Just leave already. if you're not with me, then you are against me...and you are a Musketeer until you are not....

I agree the press conference was crap - and for X to let him do it in front of our backdrop was worse. As I said, I was not thrilled with how it was handled. But that still doesn't change my feeling about the nickname. And after 6 years and 3 Sweet Sixteens, I'm pretty much over it. He moved on and will learn from his mistake Thursday night.

It was also unfortunate he publicly turned it down one day and the next changed his mind. That stung a little. People are entitled to change their minds but you would just think with such a big decision like this you wouldnt say one way or the other until you were positive you were sticking with your choice. I think it does show what a tough decision it was for him though and that shows Xavier meant a lot to him.
